In todays episode about Fran's funeral Effie mentioned Fran calling her Aunt Effie. So I guess she was Fran's Aunt too? Maybe she was Mother Crowley's sister or sister in law?Thelma always treated Effie like an old old lady so maybe she was Thelma and Fran's aged aunt too?

I have to correct myself here. If her name is Effie Crowley then she wouldn't be Thelma's mother's sister. Effie would have to have been married to her mother's brother.:D

It is my firm belief that she is Effie Harper, not Crowley. I mean, Thelma called her "sister-in-law" and she would have been much closer to both Thelma and Fran is she was their actual sister...if she was ever called Crowley, it is my belief that it was a writers mistake...

It wasn't a mistake, it was who she was in Season 2. Then in syndication, she "transformed". I think it's a cool change, makes it very interesting.:)

maybe they thought no one would notice.... just like no one would notice about a 10 foot difference in the living room from NBC to CBS

Notice that there is an extra window between the closet and the stairs in the NBC eppies.
But I think that the dining area is smaller though.

To correct the "...NBC to CBS" comment...it never aired on CBS...after the NBC years, it was in syndication...which brings up an interesting question...what exactly does that mean? What network does a "syndicated" show air on?

Well it could be any network, really. Mostly independent stations have aired syndicated programming but every now and again local affiliate networks air them as well. There aren't any first run syndicated sitcoms running right now.( I don't think) There are more syndicated dramas and sci fi shows in the market.

BTW, I forgot to mention, Effie was named as a Crowley in season 2. Thelma was calling Aunt Effie and Effie stated on her greeting that she was Effie Crowley. In the wedding episode, she is NOT credited as "Effie" in the syndicated version, but on the first run on NBC there is a segment (which is not seen in in syndication) in which Thelma greets her as she comes through the door and she calls her Effie and she is billed as Aunt Effit towards the end of the credits.
