To answer your question, Lily (played by Florence Henderson) was Carrie's stepmother. I believe Carrie's mother was Arthur's first wife.

Arthur was actually married 3 times. His first wife; Carrie's mother, was Sophia. His second wife was Lily and finally his 3rd wifw was Tessie.
