I'm leaving Chit Chat for good. My mother found out about me sneaking coming here so now I'm never returning to this part of the boards. I can only go on the TV show boards. And this is the time I'm really leaving.

You can post on the TV show boards, but not on CC? That makes no sense. People 'chit chat' on TV show boards too...

my mom says that if it's on a tv show board it is about a designated topic and not random. i tried to give her a tour but she refused and is arranging a date for a policeman to talk to me about it. i am only on here because my mom's at work.

That's why I decided to not tell my parents I come on a message board. My mom wouldn't care, but my dad would probably be weird about it.

I'm sorry to see you go. Try to keep in touch.

Honestly though, if I had a 12 year old daughter, I wouldn't want her here either, with all the fights, foul language, gangups, pictures, etc.....14 maybe, but 12 is young. Chit Chat is good for the most part, but it can be a hostile environment at times.

Hey when I was banned temporarily, I needed a cool down period since I didn't discover message boards all together in 2003 though I been on the net since 1995 on and off from my college and regular libraries but got hooked on them all together at my home in 2000 and you learn stuff new each and everyday. But I hope you can change your mind and that you can talk with your mother. Hope she can reconsider and also she also wants the best for you. Sorry about that and everything.

The only problem with that is if your mom knows your username, then all she has to do is push your search buttons and she can find out what part of the website your going to

There are a lot of nutjobs out there and don't fault your mom for caring. One day when you have a child you will understand.

But if she doesn't mind that you post on the sitcom boards then just go there and talk to your friends.

I commend TJ on actually going out of his way to make sure this site stays as clean and respectable as possible.

We all love it here and so I am sure one day you and your mom will come to an understanding.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh yes, beware the dangerous insomniac moderator dude with the neon penguin as an avatar, HAHAHAHAHAHA! F33r M3!!

Anyway, on a serious bent, SO is actually probably one of the friendlier places on the internet for people (Scary, ain't it?). With Nate gone, the few nuts we HAVE had are pretty much gone (One certain [Miss Vicki] Sexist Pig [/MV] aside). There are far worse places on the internet, and in real life, that one could be, and to send a POLICE OFFICER to lecture you about the INTERNET?!?! With no undue offense to your mother, that's just asinine, and it's overprotectionism run amok.

I'm new to the "sitcomsonline" but my daughter has been on the site for several weeks. I've been checking it out ( it has alot of shows I LOVE).

I've given her the drills of what not to do etc..when online ...( she has been online for several years) I do know there is a mix of adults and young people here. So I do plan to keep check on her postings due to this. This is one of her favorite websites and checks it daily , although she hasn't discovered "chitchat" as of yet....but I know she will.

I don't stand over her shoulder of course , but we do talk and "communication" and that is our best"POLICEMAN"

Welcome.

I think you'll find that, though we goof off sometimes (that's what message boards are for), we're generally a good group of people.

In case anything does go bad, chit chat is moderated well.

See, that's the best advice. Give your kid a little trust, watch to make sure things don't get TOO bad, but, at the same time, give your kid the vote of confidence to (eventually) just chat about random things with her as-soon-as-she-finds--these-boards friends.

Certainly light years better than all-force prohibiting your child from visiting boards that don't necessarily have a controlled subject matter, and bringing in the Actual, LITERAL, police when they don't

And if BeaverFan's mother should be reading this, I'd like to apologize for repeatedly bringing up your actions in my comments, but they just, from MY viewpoint, scream an overreaction. While I'm certainly not going to tell someone how to raise children, I'd certainly think that I could give a kid a little leeway to visit a message board that discusses random things that happen to come up in the course of a given day. But to, supposedly, call in a POLICE OFFICER to talk to your kid just because they decide to post on a board that's a little more free in it's subject matter, that's actually a little more grown-up. Oy, it gives me a headache thinking about it.

I don't know what they teach at schools where everyone else lives, but here, right when the internet was JUST becoming commonplace (Read: 1995 or so), they taught us what we should and shouldn't do online. And most of those things are just common sense that anyone SHOULD know. And, I would hope that anyone venturing onto these boards has the common sense not to post ultra-personal things like their SSN (Duh), Actual Home Address (City, State is OK, Fictional locations are better, and more creative), and other personal info that could be used for Identity theft, or worse. I'd think it's safe to assume that BeaverFan, that you/they have the common sense, by NOW, to understand the Do's and Don't of cyberspace, and to act accordingly.

If anyone's parents are that overly concerned, just suggest, and I know this'll seem radical, that they sit down with their kids while AT SO, and other sites. And, if they feel the content is too offensive, THEN restrict access to the site, until said young'un ages a little, then re-evaluate.

Furthermore, (Self-Gratification Alert), the moderating and administrating staff at Sitcoms Online (TJ, Pavanbadal, Janice, myself, and several others) are some of the better message board control personnel out there, and are generally mindful of the ages of the users viewing the boards, and act in threads accordingly. We try, TRY to keep the boards generally at a PG level, with some content in the PG-13 level. If something appears to be going in a generally bad direction, we try to act to resolve the situation, and prevent further instances. Stuff happens, that's a general rule for the internet, AND LIFE , but, the staff here tries to prevent frequent occurances of the negatives.

It essentially comes down to this, regarding the Chit Chat board: Would you feel comfortable if this were a PG-13 movie with considerations for Dialogue and the Rare MILD adult theme (that, by 12/13, your kid is already exposed to anyway).

A POLICEMAN? A POLICEMAN?? Is your mom nuts or something? Heck, I never had a babysitter. I just sat my rump in front of the TV all day and watched reruns of "The Munsters" and "Gilligan's Island." Or sometimes I would hang out with the older kids and give fingers to the cars goin' down the street.

I think in most states it's against the law to leave a child that young at home by himself. Anything could happen. Children that young need to be supervised.
