View Full Version : Dolly's Parton / Whitney's Houston I'll always love you verson.
cable_freak 06-23-2004, 08:42 PM The number one love song of all time is Dolly Partons I'll Always Love You. I wished that Whitney's Houston verson never made it on the chatrs. Her voice was so bad,she whined throught the whole song. Dolly's voice has one of the sweetest voices around, she can do alot, she did disco, pop, rock. She always seems true to her songs. Some say she's to much like hollywood and is stuck up, but I don't think so,she is and will be the queen of country. Who do u like Whitnys 'or Dollys. Of course Dolly's is mine. She recored the song 3 times,19769 i think)1982,and 1990's verson with Vince Gill, now she sang it again in 2004 on Top 100 love songs,on CMT.
Both versions make me want to vomit.
david&maddie4ever 06-23-2004, 10:09 PM I definitely like Whitney's better. I dunno...to me, the song seems like it needs a powerhouse voice, and Whitney's certainly got that.
Rhiannon 06-24-2004, 12:09 PM Dolly Parton's version I like better. I am a big Dolly fan, I like a lot of her music.
vienna waits 06-24-2004, 12:23 PM Tamyra Gray's version on Boston Public :woohoo:
britt britt 06-24-2004, 02:34 PM I like Dolly's version better, she's so talented.
Dean Winchester 06-24-2004, 02:45 PM well, both songs are good in their own ways, they are vastly different inerpretations of the song.
It's like comparing the Supremes' You Keep Me Hanging On with the hard rock version by Vanilla Ice and dance-pop version by Kim Wilde, all three of them have something to offer.
Linda Ronstadt also did a good version of I Will Always Love You on her Hasten Down The Wind album.
jamesanthony 06-24-2004, 04:52 PM Dolly's version (I don't know which version of hers I know) is more pleasant than Whitney's overly melodramatic record
Pitooey 06-24-2004, 07:33 PM I enjoy Whitney's version.
vze3t9q9 06-28-2004, 04:36 PM I'm not as outspoken as AKA but I have only heard Whitneys and I didn't think much of it. but then I don't think much of Whitney when she sings anything. Pretty woman but not my cup of tea. And her husband> I'd unload him.

Come to think of it, maybe that's why Karly feels that way about Dolly. Dolly would be the first one to tell you that her celebrity persona is CLOWN like.:eek2:

I don't know why, but Dolly reminds me of this lady from TBN, the church network. The lady that has blond hair and that twang in her voice and is so lovingly dramatic and funny!
