anyone got an invite they could send me?

I got a Gmail account the other day courtesy of an invite from Seth Thrasher (thanks Seth!). It's a pretty nice setup they have and I think they will do well even though I'm sure some will have a problem with their text based ads based on the keywords of your e-mails. It looks there could be a major war between them and Hotmail and Yahoo.

Gmail has 1000 MB I think. Yahoo! just upgraded to 100MB for free users and 2 GB for subscribers. Hotmail only has 2 MB, they are outdated now. Yahoo! or Gmail is the way to go.

I have 4 free yahoo accounts and 1 subscription yahoo...I'll never run out of space...ever. :D

I started with Hotmail in 1998 and still have my original address from back then...They upgraded my account to 10MB about a year ago.

I got a friend to send me an account (Gmail is still in its testing stages, so you can't register just yet) and it's great so far! I love it!

It's confusing at first, but at least I don't have problems like w/ Yahoo :D

$6?? There when invites were first being released to people outside the immediate Friends of Google circle, they were going for upwards of $75

Invites are handed out partly based on usage, partly on how long they've been testing, and partly random.

Some people receive upwards of five to ten invites per day. I've gotten six in my duration with Gmail

How long have you HAD your gmail account? I had mine for approx. a week before I received any

A bit of news I read while browsing CNN.com

Effective July, hotmail will bump up storage for free customers to 250MB. Paid customers will receive 2GB.

(Of course, on the free end, Google's still got 'em all beat with 1GB)

i think Hotmail and Yahoo are scared - from the limited amount of testing that I have done, when i send gmails to my Yahoo! account, they still end up in the bulk mail folder, even after i click on the NOT SPAM button

I just did a quick test...I have the bulk mail feature turned off in one of my Yahoo emails, so I added my Gmail address into my Yahoo address book and sent myself an email from my Gmail to my Yahoo mail...It went into the inbox without any problems. Now I'm off to test my other accout WITH bulk mail turned on...

I tested my account w/ bulk mail turned on...didn't add my gmail address to my address book...sent myself an email and it ended up in my inbox like it did my other one :lol:

Gmail has been a hot item on eBay for the past month, and apparently Google has decided to put a stop to it:

Google changed its Gmail membership policy this week to prevent people from profiting on the sale of popular e-mail names.

According to Google's new policy (http://dw.com.com/redir?destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fgmail.google.com%2Fgmail%2Fhelp%2Fprogram_policies_redline.html&siteId=2&oId=2100-1104-5254366&ontId=11&lop=nl_ex) , altered Monday, the Web search company prohibits Gmail subscribers from selling, trading or transferring the free e-mail accounts "for any unauthorized commercial purpose." It also bars people from setting up multiple accounts in violation of the policy.

The changes are designed to deter people from creating multiple e-mail accounts with the purpose of reselling or trading them, according to a source at the company. The policy alterations do not target people trying to barter Gmail invitations, which allow people to sign up for a new membership.


The Mountain View, Calif., search company was likely responding to instances of individuals and commercial ventures attempting to profit from the popular, yet not widely available, service. Google began publicly testing (http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5184090.html?tag=nl) Gmail in late March, in a move that rattled rival e-mail providers with promises of vast improvements to free Web-based e-mail. Gmail, for example, offers users a whopping 1 gigabyte of storage and lets people search unlimited archives of conversations. At first, Google let only select family and friends open accounts, yet it has slowly opened up membership more broadly to friends of those already holding accounts.

Yet the clublike demand for accounts has inspired entrepreneurs. Online auction site eBay has as many as 2,000 listings for Gmail invitations for sale, ranging from 1 cent to as much as $30 for 10 accounts. Potentially more concerning, however, could be people who sign up for Gmail accounts with a common or company-trademarked name with a profit motive. The practice is similar to parties who purchase potentially lucrative, trademarked domain names and attempt to sell them to the owner, a practice called domain squatting.

Google's Gmail also has sparked criticism from privacy advocates because it involves scanning the contents of e-mail and delivering related ads. The California Senate passed a Gmail bill that seeks to limit companies' ability to survey e-mail for advertising purposes.

I finally got an invite, and I gave that away to Brad. :D I don't have anymore now, though...hehe...

Google finally started sending out invites again!!!
