what are some family-related sitcoms in your opinion that didn't lost it's appeal once the kids got older (I know a lot of people who cite that as a reason why latter Cosby seasons weren't as appealing as early)?

Roseanne is the one that comes to mind almost immediately. If anything, because the show was always handled from an adult POV instead of a childs... so when Darlene got older, you liked her better, as opposed to the "oh, she was soooo cute when she was 13", even tho on the other hand, DJ got worse as he got older, his limited acting skills got more and more visible when he was no longer a cute 7 year old.

I like this show from about year 4 onward specifically because the kids aren't so young anymore and it was to me never a show designed for children. The guy who played DJ was a limited actor, its true.

Family Matters wasn't any worse or better because Urkel etc got older, though they added 3J he was a minor character who in the end added nothing to the show one way or another.

IMO, Leave it to Beaver.

Boy Meets World.... however, that changed focus after the kids graduated high school. Instead of being about the family, it became about the core group of friends (Corey, Topanga, Jack, Shawn, Angela, Rachel and Eric) with the parents and Morgan appearing every once and awhile just to prove that they were still alive.

I agree that as Wally and Eddie got older they were more interesting but the producers tried to keep Beaver a little boy even after he got to about 13 years old! He and his friends didn't act like any 13 year olds that I remember! And that was the demise of the show. It was cancelled soon after! I am glad that the show didn't fall into the trap of getting a new kid to live with the family as later sitcoms did. LITB ended gracefully IMO:D

roseanne was okay i didnt like the change of darlene but it was still cool and boy meets world got a lot better when the kids grew up

I agree Mrs.Ducky.
Although I loved the early eppies a bunch,I believe that 'Leave it to Beaver' actually got somewhat better as Jerry and Wally aged a bit. It was written a little differently it seems, and the situations they got into were more 'realistic' in nation I thought. :happyface :lol: :crazy: :eek:

I also liked Ozzie & Harriet when David and Rickie were little,but I enjoyed it even more when 'Rick' was
older and sang on the show. I thought it really added something special.

Roseanne got alot better as the kids got older, especialy Darlene, as was said before on this thread. During the first seasonsm parents could say, "oh, yeah, I have a kid just like her," and as she got older, she became more identifiable with the younger viewers themselves. I would have to say that Darlene was the most realistically portrayed teen ever to be featured in a sitcom, and she only got better as time progressed. Thank god Sara Gilbert mostly stayed out of the last season.

The older they got, the more I liked it.
