Mary-Kate Olsen has entered a clinic for treatment of an eating disorder, sources tell PEOPLE.

"Mary-Kate Olsen recently entered a treatment facility to seek professional help for a health-related issue," Michael Pagnotta, a spokesman for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who turned 18 on June 13, said in a statement Tuesday. He did not specify what that health issue was.

Pagnotta added: "She is thankful for the encouragement and support of her friends and family who are with her every step of the way."

The sisters, who each boast an estimated net worth of $150 million and will enter New York University as freshmen in September, admitted in a PEOPLE cover story last month: "Being in the public eye, you're labeled that you have an eating disorder," said Ashley. "You have a drug addiction," said Mary-Kate.

Ashley, however, was quick to add: "We don't have problems! There's nothing to worry about."

Insisted Mary-Kate: "If I had a drug addiction, I would be in a thingy ? like Promises, the Malibu (rehab) place. You don't see me there. So, like, come on. It's crazy."

She's not saying she has a drug addiction...she's saying that when you're in the public eye you're either labeled with a drug addiction or an eating disorder, but those quotes from Ashley and Mary-Kate were taken from the Oprah show so you have to watch the interview to know that's what they're talking about.

But People is not known for lies, they're not Star or the National Enquirer. I'd take this a little more seriously, it could be true.

Yeah MK must have anorexia because on the news they just said something about her going into a center for it. I feel so bad for her :( I wish you the best Mary-Kate!

They just covered it on Inside Edition. It's basically the same people saying the same quotes that were in the news articles we read. And they showed video coverage of the Walk of Fame and their movie premiere.

They said she's been in the clinic for 10 days now.

I'm going to watch ET too because I figure they'll have something on it as well.

Two months ago, ET reported there were worries over Mary-Kate's alarmingly low weight. At the time, the twins denied there was problem. The world's most famous twin even poked fun at her frail frame during a skit on "Saturday Night Live," where she pretended to be a paparazzo who yells "Eat a sandwich" to a pretend Mary-Kate. Now, Us magazine, on stands Friday, breaks news that Mary-Kate is dealing with anorexia.

A spokesperson for the young moguls says Mary-Kate "is thankful for the encouragement and support of her friends and family who are with her every step of the way." Mary-Kate and Ashley turned 18 last week, taking control of the millions they've made throughout their very public lives. Both girls were reportedly expected to take a celebration trip to the posh Las Ventanas al Paraiso resort in Mexico, but it was a solo vacation for Ashley -- her sister stayed behind.

"Mary-Kate Olsen recently entered a treatment facility to seek professional help for an eating-related issue. She is thankful for the encouragement and support of her friends and family who are with her every step of the way," said Michael Pagnotta, spokesman for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, in a released statement.

Mary-Kate entered the center within the last 10 days, according to the statement. The teen millionaires, who are worth an estimated net worth of $150 million each, have been the target of tabloid speculation about their weight for quite some time.

"The evidence was there for over a year now. In fact, it has been going on for over a year now," said People magazine correspondent Peter Castro. "Let's face it, she might have been in denial about this and she finally realized that it got to the point there was a serious problem."

Ironically, the Olsen sisters poked fun at Mary-Kate's weight during their hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live" in May.

"Mary-Kate, you're too skinny -- eat a sandwich!" yelled Mary-Kate during a skectch that had the sisters posing as over zealous paparazzi, yelling at fictitious versions of themselves.

Still, Castro commended the youngster for being brave enough to face her demons.

"It was very courageous," Castro told Access. "I think she sends out a message to fans who may be suffering from this disease that you can get help and you should get help."

Unfortunately, Mary-Kate is not the first Hollywood starlet to battle an eating disorder.

"Sopranos" star Jamie-Lynn Discala and "Growing Pains" actress Tracey Gold both publicly dealt with ongoing problems with anorexia.

"In the beginning, I was very ashamed that I went through something like that," Jamie-Lynn told us in 2000.

"It's always there," Gold explained in an earlier interview. "It doesn't all of a sudden go away."

When Access spoke with Jamie-Lynn about Mary-Kate's troubles, the actress was very sympathetic.

"I empathize with what Mary-Kate is going through and hope that people will respect both her and her family at this difficult time," Discala said.

Castro said he hopes Mary-Kate is next in line with the other actresses who have faced and defeated their problems.

"Hollywood is filled with actresses who've had this problem and almost all have come out and told the world, 'You can beat this. It's going to be hard but you can beat it.'"

According to her spokesman, Mary-Kate still plans to attend New York University this fall and will be traveling later this summer.

Mary-Kate and Ashley have made headlines recently for their first big screen effort "New York Minute" and for reaching their 18th birthday, which was counted down on numerous Web sites.

ET really covered it well. They included information about it that really hasn't been disclosed through the articles we've read. They said they knew something was up when they saw Ashley without Mary-Kate at an appearance of some sort last week. US Weekly has Mary-Kate on the cover and I think they said it will be out sometime this week.

I've read that this has been going on for more than a year...that's really scary.

It's going to take a while (not just being in the clinic) but she'll get through this. I mean she's an Olsen...she can do anything. ;)

My other favorite actress, Tracey Gold went through this as well. She is now a healthy mother of 2 (and another one on the way).

I wish Mary-Kate the best. She can get through it! She's an Olsen, as Barb explained!

Yes, she's expecting. She may have already had it...but I'm pretty sure she's still pregnant.

Tracey Gold welcomes baby boy

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It's another boy for actress Tracey Gold.
Gold, who played Carol Anne Seaver on ABC's Growing Pains, gave birth to Aiden Michael Marshall on Saturday at Tarzana Hospital, according to a statement from her publicist.

Gold and her husband, Roby Marshall, have two other sons, 7-year-old Sage and 5-year-old Bailey, said Karynne Tencer of Tencer & Associates.

Mary-Kate will make it...she's managed to stay in there this long. She's 18, she could have checked herself out if she wanted to. (Like in Tracey's movie ;) )

She was pregnant with him while filming the 2nd Growing Pains reunion movie and they wrote it in so I'm excited about that. :D I think the movie is going to air in November on the Wonderful World of Disney but I'm not sure anymore. I agree. She seems like a level-headed person, and we are all waiting patiently for her. :)

No, that one wasn't true. I bought the magazine issue where this was confirmed. The article mentioned the girls were furious because, in reality, that pic of the twin holding the bottle was wrong. If you look very closely, it's actually a water bottle. And the jail thing.... not sure where that was mentioned but it was just a graduation party the girls attended. :)

If I were Mary-Kate and Ashley I'd sue the magazines that lie about them! And I mean this! Magazines are just waiting to see when they'll mess up or do something wrong. I mean , they're 18 years old , you don't expect them to have boyfriends and go partying? Nobody's perfect! I don't think so...I believe that's just a rumor.

They drink, but I don't know about jail time. They have said that they weren't drinking in some pictures (including the picture in the article below), but that doesn't mean that they've never drank. But common, they're teenagers. Most teenagers at least try it.

Yeah, it's a long article...4 pages long, I just posted one of them. ;) ...The one about sex basically, it goes on to talk about their favorite drinks, where they party, and a picture of them in bed with guys, etc.

She really needs to stop before she dies. I am 180 and ft and in the past had my bulimic episodes myself as Iv'e mentioend before. However, she is not fat at all. AT ALL. AT ALL. She has a BF...she has the looks. The body. The fame. The fortune. Just eat! You've gone as freakin low as you can go. Me...I am stopping at 150, but really...she needs to learn that her body does need food.



So what if she gains. She is rich. She can do body wraps. She can do cosmetic surgery....pills. She can't starve herself to death. I hope she gets better soon. She needs to think about College and not about her figure anymore than she already has.

ASHLEY OLSEN: SIS IS 'HANGING IN THERE'

The "heath-related issue" Mary-Kate Olsen is seeking treatment for is something she struggled with for some time, her twin sister, Ashley, told People magazine.

Mary-Kate's publicist, Michael Pagnotta, has said only that she entered a treatment facility recently "to seek professional help for a health-related issue."

"She's hanging in there," Ashley Olsen said of her sister, adding family members were very appreciative of the public support they recieved since mary-Kate's problem was disclosed.

"The support's been really amazing," Ashley Olsen said.

She added that her sister had been struggling with the problem for "quite awhile" before the family stepped in and got help for her.

"She is taking the time she needs for herself rightnow," Ashley Olsen told People. "Right now is especially a good time right before school so she can get healthy."

Mary-Kate is also getting support from stars like Gloria Estefan and Camryn Manheim, who can relate to the pressures of staying thin in the spotlight.

"When you're in the public eye, of course there's that pressure," Gloria told Access. "Every time someone sees you, I mean you hear comments sometimes when you're walking down the street...I don't think it ever gets easier not to eat."

Meanwhile, Camryn offered some support for the ailing teen.

"Honestly, I want to wish her the very best. I just hope she gets the best care and it looks like she has the best care possible that's all that matters," Manheim told us.

The twns, whose most recent movie is "New York Minute," turned 18 earlier this month and plan to attend New York University in the fall.

Ahley, who recently canceled a trip to Australia to promote "New York Minute" to be with her sister, declined to describe their recent meetings.

"It's private," she said. "I'm here for her whenever she needs me, and, you know, that's how it works."

Think about it , her and her sister are always in the public eye. Celebrities always get criticized if they're too fat or skinny. MK probably was stressed about her weight and started not eating and taking drugs. MK was never fat in the first place , she always looked skinny to me.

Unfortunately, it's a mental disorder where these people "feel" and "believe" they're fat, even if they're not. They can't help it. :( With friends/family/loved ones rooting and emphasizing they are not and with proper nutrition, it can really help them get out of it. Take the example of Tracey Gold from Growing Pains. It took her years before she's back on track, but she was older than Mary-Kate when she received treatment.

I have every faith, especially with Ashley's support (since they're very close), Mary-Kate will get well and beat this!! :)

Mary-Kate was followed by the paparazzi to a little Mexican cafe just a few weeks before entered in the eating disorder clinic (May 23rd). Here she was found eating a chicken quesadilla and a large diet Coke.

mary-kate olen, 18 who is battling an eatting disorder, is being treated at cirque lodge in orem, utah, us weekly reports.

The facility specialize in the "effective treatment of individuals and families afflicted with the disease of alcoholism and other drug addictions," according to its offcial web site.

When the news of Olsen's hospitalization broke last week,her longtime publicist, michael pagnotta, "categorically" denied to usa TODAY that drugs were involved.

In explaining why olsen is at a facility that specializes in drug and alcohol abuse treatment, panotta told US: "it is a multi-treatment facility, which is perfectly capable of accommodating her needs. Mary-kate has a team of people working with her, including a renowned psychologist in this field and a nutritionist."

He again emhasized to Us that "Mary-Kate Olsen is being treated for an eating-related disorder."

In its new issue, Us reports that Olsen's twin, Ashley, visited her sister at the facitity, where they had a loving reunion. "They embraced," the twins' father, dave Olsen, told the magazine."Obviously Mary-kate was very happy, and so was ashley."

No, she still had an eating disorder. She's had an eating disorder for 2 years now. These pictures were taken this May. It was just a few weeks before she was admitted to a clinic for help. So my guess is that she's mainly anorexic, but sometimes chooses to eat.

I know of someone who is anorexic and she sometimes eats, but she sometimes throws it up or she keeps it down. When she keeps it down she'll go out and exercise more than ever.

She's getting herself help. I think it's 10-20% of people with eating disorders die. If she continues to get help, then it's not very likely. I believe she'll be all right. ;)
