Both Networks had very entertaining Shows in the 70's CBS with Good Times, All in the Family, Jeffersons, Maude, and Alice. While ABC had Happy Days, Three's Company, Laverne and Shirley, WHat's Happening, and Welcome Back Kotter. But I will give the nod to CBS, because ABC had a long list of UNWATCHABLE shows between 1975 and 1979. Those were

Mork and Mindy
Barney Miller
Soap


So CBS definetly RULED the 70's in my opinion.

I have to choose ABC. Most of my favorite sitcoms from the 70's aired on ABC. All in the Family and the Jeffersons were the only 2 sitcoms on CBS that I watch. And the only thing NBC had that was any good in the 70's was Sanford and Son.

Taxi and Mork and Mindy weren't unwatchable.

I'd go with ABC.

When I saw Mork and Mindy a few years ago on ABCFAM I enjoyed most of the first season. After that, Mork got annoying.

Hard choice. Statistically CBS dominated most of the 1970s. Most of the shows I like on ABC from that decade were in the late 1970s. I'm saying CBS because they had a lot of good shows that I like and most of them are great classics, although ABC is a very close second. That station had a lot of good shows but only a few of them can match the shows that ABC had. They are as follows.

Hawaii Five-O
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
All In The Family
Maude
M*A*S*H
The Bob Newhart Show
Barnaby Jones
Rhoda
The Jeffersons
The Incredible Hulk

Those are ones I've seen. These are others that I haven't seen but are said to be good and had consistently good ratings.

Mission: Impossible
Gunsmoke

ABC had a lot of shows that I like, too. Mostly dramas, though. These are ones I've seen.

CBS. While ABC had some great shows (especially Three's Company), you can't beat the Norman Lear shows that were aired predominantly on CBS.

CBS gets the slight advantage because of the MTM shows.

CBS by a long shot. We talk about must see TV night being Thursday on NBC. CBS had Saturdays nights in the 70s as the must see TV night starting with All In the Family, The New Dick Van Dyke Show/Bridget Loves Bernie/MASH/The Jeffersons, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show and The Carol Burnett Show. Saturdays rocked and it was worth staying home for.

That's what happened to Married With Children. It was put on Saturday and that was the last nail in the coffin.

Married With Children was one of the few sitcoms that could still be airing today (with new episodes) and be entertaining. But, FOX gave it the crap treatment and killed it.

I'm actually glad that MWC never had a real final episode. What could they have done? Bud moves out, Kelly gets married and gets pregnant. If they did have a final ep I think I might have been disappointed with the outcome.

well, I think the CBS shows were generally "better", but in all honesty, I still preferred the ABC shows from the 70's.... and Taxi (which is NOT unwatchable by the way) is definately one of the shows that tips the table to ABC's favor for me

Please don;t take this the wrong way but i don;t expect many people born in 1992 to be a fan of the 70's TV show. One reason maybe because you have not had a chance to see those shows in your local area. Where you live, do they air a lot of shows from the 70's in reruns?

Yeah, I get TV Land. Ive watched 70s shows and didnt enjoy them, aside from Happy Days and Taxi.

I think the 50's TV shows to me is how the 70's shows are to you. I was born in the 70's and don;t enjoy shows from the 50's and you were born in the 90's and don;t enjoy shows from the 70's.

In terms of shows that were more thought provoking; CBS. CBS has always catered to older viewers so this is not surprising that they would have more sophisticated shows back then while ABC went after the youth market.

If I were living in the 70s and my Tv got stuck on one channel because the knob fell off and got lost I would have preffered that it be the CBS affiliate.

I agree about CBS catering to older viewers. Especially when ou think of Shows like

Mary Tyler Moore
Phyllis
Jeffersons
Bob Newhart

From about 1970-1972, ABC was better imo, with "Bewitched," "The Partridge Family," "The Odd Couple," and "Love American Style." Then from 1972-1978, CBS is my pick. "All in the Family," "Maude," "The Bob Newhart Show," "Mary Tyler Moore," "Alice," "The Jeffersons," "The Carol Burnett Show," "The New Dick Van Dyke Show," and "Good Times" were all good, imo. But of course, from 1978-1980 ABC reigns supreme. "Three's Company," "Laverne & Shirley," "Taxi," "The Love Boat," "Soap," and "Barney Miller" were all great shows, in my opinion. Basically the two networks are tied when it comes to JUST sitcoms, but if you add dramas into the mix, ABC definatly gets the edge because of one man: Aaron Spelling.

7:00 P.M.--All In The Family
7:30 P.M.--M*A*S*H(rose from 46th place on Sunday nights in the 1972-1973 season to 5th place in the 1973-1974 season)
8:00 P.M.--Mary Tyler Moore Show
8:30 P.M.--Bob Newhart Show
9:00 P.M.--Carol Burnett Show

I was born in 88 and enjoy shows from every decade.
There was not one year (since 1951) where there hasnt been a show on TV that I didnt like.
