I believe it. It was around that time that one of my neighbors got one. They were the first people I knew that had a VCR. That thing was about the size of a small microwave oven and must have weighed about 50 pounds. They taped Popeye off the tv and we would watch that movie over and over again.

I remember VCRs of the 80's. My parents got a VCR in 1983 or 1984, and it was HUUUUUUUUUUUGE. It was a top-loading VCR like all the other VCR's back then. It also had a million buttons and dials on it. I remember trying to shove a NES cartridge into the VCR once, when I was about 3 years old. :lol: That VCR eventually died and we got another VCR that we STILL have to this day(!). We got it in 1990, and it looks like a regular VCR (but it's pretty heavy).

Also...in the early 90's, buying stuff on video was still pretty expensive...They cost anywhere from $30 to $45. :eek:

It's not so surprising. when something is new and innovative the price is going to be high. look at DVD players and other stuff now. back then it was new innovative to be able to record programs

I got one last September for $150 (I think). And then, over the holidays, someone left another DVD/VCR combo in one of the hotel rooms, and they never called or anything, so now we have two. :D

My family did, too. It was a Sony and we got it in the mid-80's, so they didn't have dials...they had buttons instead. My ex-best friend has a TV like that, I think her parents still has it...It's gotta be from the late 70's/early 80's because there was a remote that came with it and it's HUGE and extremely chunky and only had a few buttons on it. :eek:

They still had it (and it still worked) when her parents moved in 2002.

I remember our first VCR, it was one of those top loader ones. The remote was HUGE and if you walked in front of it while you were fast forwarding something the tape would stop - like you broke the laser ray or something :lol:

Tapes were like $15 for a pack of 3 but they were GREAT tapes then. Anyone remember the SCOTCH brand? Those were the BEST. I'd happily pay that much for Scotch brand tapes today - I still have stuff taped on them from back then that are bettedr quality than stuff I taped last night.

Oh my... I'm starting to get old. :( I remember the Scotch videotapes at Winn-Dixie(where my dad used to work when I was little). I was like 6 or 7 and remember seeing them on the shelf. :eek:

Yes, I remember Scotch brand tapes...I have a couple of them in my collection. I have a Scotch brand tape from 1990, and the stuff taped on it is in AMAZING condition, and it was all taped 14 years ago.

We had one of those! The one without the dials that is. The remote never did work.

Ours did that too. And you had to press the rewind button all the time, because if you released it, it would stop rewinding.

It comes from a Miller Lite commercial. There's a debate between a Budweiser horse and some guy speaking for Miller Lite. Irritated that the moderator keeps interrupting him (his time for speaking was up) he asks her, "Why won't you let America hear the whole story? Whose pocket are you in?"

Am I the only one who misses those old floor model TV's? I had an RCA floor model that lasted for 14 years. I always thought they were cool looking. People are lucky to get 6 or 7 years out of a TV now.

You're not the only one. I miss them too. :lol: My grandma had two of 'em -- one of them she STILL has. The TV she still has is from the 1970's (at least) and has knobs and stuff....no remote for it. It's a huuuuuuuuuuuge one too...it's basically a 70's version of a built-in home entertainment system, because it also comes with a LP player (my grandma STILL has a few 45's and 78's for it) AND a 8-track player, both built into the TV. :eek: You had to flip open the top on the TV to access the LP player and 8-track player. VERY cool. I have no idea if it still works - she hasn't plugged it in for about 10 to 15 years now. The floor TV we had lasted for about 9 years.

The TV I have for my bedroom now, I've had it since April 1997 and it's still going. :D My parents got a Zenith TV 15 years ago and it's STILL going strong, altho you can tell it wants to die now. :lol: We lost the remote for it AGES ago. It's been very good to us for the last 15 years. :D

My aunt still has a big wooden floor tv :lol: She even bought it in the last 90's. I always thought that they were really cool.

Okay, I just read this entire thread, and the verdict is in. This was a nice thread until Sarah popped in and insulted everyone. We all know these boards well enough to know that people are going to respond to that.

With that said, Sarah did explain that she was only kidding, and others should have accepted that. People need to let a few remarks here and there roll off their backs. It's not as if she went on a full blown rampage against everyone. She made a remark that meant no harm and that she obviously regretted.

Things did get out of hand, and it could have been prevented if people would put others on their ignore list or don't go into full throttle attack mode over a silly remark.
