Heya-

I'm currently working on my first resume. Anyway, I have the objective, experience, education, interests, related work experiences/services, extra-cirricular activites/school activities, and references written out. I also included my name, address, e-mail, phone number. What else do I need to add, if anything?

Also, when listing my interests-- do I need to go into specifics? If I say, for example, "I enjoy sitcoms," do I need to mention which ones? And do I need to write in complete sentences? :dizzy:

In regards to the "education" section. Do I list after-school programs, too? Or only my elementary, middle, and HS schools? Do I need to provide the addresses/numbers on my schools?

Also, how long is a typical resume? Is 2.5 pages efficient?

I started working on my first resume like a year ago. I put all volunteer projects and activities I did. I think it all depends on what job you're applying for.

For instance, let's say you're applying to work in a daycare center or at a daycamp. If you put in your resume that you have experience with little children that would be of interest to the people looking at the resume. BUT, if you're applying at a grocery store, they could care 2 bits if you have experience with little kids. Does that make sense?

I just found my resume.

I put: Education (High school and higher), work experience(jobs), volunteer activities, and accomplishments/interests. I haven't updated it in a long time since I haven't applied for any jobs in a while.

I don't know how true this is but I was always told never to use "I" on a resume. For some reason it doesn't look good to employers like "I can type" " I took cooking lessons" for example.

Interests, hmmm that can be tricky.:eek:

Actually, that's a little long. 2 should be max unless you've got tons of work experience. And some of the stuff you mentioned in the resume could be put in your cover letter instead, like interests.

After-school things would be more in the extra-cirricular/interests category. With education, they're more interested in what classes you've taken, especially if they pertain to the job.

A lot of times, you'll put the school's numbers and addresses on the application, not the resume. And if you just put high school, that should be enough. If you made it to HS, it's pretty obvious you went to elementary and MS.

Thanks for the "I" info. You know what? I think you're absolutely correct. My teachers have always told me not to use "me" and "I" in essays, so it makes perfect sense to be the same in this case, as well. Thanks for the reminder!

What classes I've taken? They don't necessarily have to be majors or anything right? It's okay to put, "English I, English II?" LOL!

:lol: A cover letter is also sometimes called a letter of interest. It's basically a letter saying what job you're applying for, why you want to work for them, and why you're the best person for the job. Basically a suck up letter. :lol: If you do a search for cover letters, you can see some examples on the net. They almost always accompany resumes.

And yeah, that's fine. Maybe put something like, "Learned basic writing skills. Learned research skills." That kind of stuff. Real basic.
