Is it just me or does "Friends" borrow from Wings?

Last nite, I saw the episode where Roy teaches Antonio to dance, and it got me thinking about the time Joey had to dance with his landlord on the roof.

And also, how Helen used to be fat. Just like Monica used to be fat.

There's prob. other similarities, but those 2 come to mind.

Hmm....certainly being on NBC could be a reason for this coincidence. Did both shows have same producers? Writers?

Guess Friends has to steal/borrow from a good show like Wings. So, let's give Wings their credit!!! haha


Also, I'm sure many of y'all have seen from the earlier episodes of Wings that it was produced by Roz Doyle , the character name fo Peri Gilpin on Frasier. Peri, coincidentally also appeared on Wings.

Well I guess, imitation is the best form of flattery. However, if it's really true that Friends borrowed some ideas from Wings I still feel bad for Wings. This is because Friends got so popular and NBC loved it so much, while NBC (from what I've gathered in some articles) didn't give Wings the treatment it deserved which may be the reason why it transferred to USA.

I've always noticed that too. I also remember the year after Friends premiered, all those sitcoms came out that people claimed were just cheap knock-offs of Friends (Some of them, I actually liked.) while apparently forgetting the fact that Friends was similar to other shows, including Cheers and Seinfeld.

I know Wings was always called a cheap Taxi or Cheers knock-off, but I think all three shows are great in their own right. One shouldn't try to compare shows for their similarities.

Wings didn't transfer over to USA network. It stayed on NBC for its entire run. USA just aired the reruns. Wings is probably more associated with USA than NBC because of the number of times they used to air Wings :lol: And now, their most popular show stars a former Wings cast member.

oh! what a blunder! i better twak myself on the head. :embarrasslaff: so the eps i've been watching as a youngster have always been a rerun?! what a revelation! :lol:

i know! tony shaloub's on the roll with his Mr. Monk character! i wonder when he'll let his former cast members guest? he did already have his wife & brother appear on his show.

Tim Daly guest-starred on "Monk" once as himself... they made some kind of Wings joke, but I don't remember what it was........ i might have that episode on tape somewhere.......

oh goodie! there's sign of life of Wings in Monk!

I have watched nearly all of Monk's eps. thanks to the marathon. However, I missed the one where Tim Daly guest starred. I learned from IMDB that the ep was entitled Mr. Monk and the Airplane. Airplane=Wings=Airplane No wonder, that's where Tim Daly guest starred.
