I think that Andy should have married Miss Peggy, the nurse. IMHO, she was better looking than Miss Crump or Ellie, the Pharmacist. What do you think?

I had a childhood crush on her daughter (Tatum O'Neal) Coincidenatlly, both Joanna Moore & Aneta Corsaut were both born in november & both also died in november from cancer hawaii five-o 06-18-2004, 12:45 PM I like Peggy, but I prefer Ellie. Helen always kind of seemed like an old hag to me. hoosierelvisfan 06-18-2004, 01:23 PM . . . . after Barney left the show. Didn't Andy seem like an ol' grump in the later seasons? Sometimes he seemed like he was just miserable. Maybe that's why Miss Crump might have seemed so miserable herself?!?! LOL! Dave In Texas 10-07-2004, 10:11 PM Nurse Peggy, Ellie, Thelma Lou, Barney, Goober, and Floyd were ALL better looking than Helen Crump. I never figured out how they chose such a drab lookin' woman for his main squeeze. cindy ox 10-07-2004, 11:35 PM Maybe Helen resembled Opie's mother! I wonder what her name was. vze3t9q9 10-09-2004, 09:00 PM I don't she was so bad looking. It just seemed so dull. I even think Thelma Lou was peppier. Even the name Miss Crump sounded dull. When I first heard it, I thought it was Miss Crumb. On the other hand I guess the Fun Girls were too much fun. vze3t9q9 10-09-2004, 09:03 PM Peggy did have a prettiness to her. I thought the end of one show ( in the episode Opie is jealous of her) that she seemed to want to get involve with Opie to fish. She did want to guy things too. tdr 10-13-2004, 04:35 AM I thought Helen was not originally meant to become Andy's girlfriend; just Opie's teacher, and for that reason she was developed as smart and rigid, not sexy; and Aneta Corsault obviously could fit that image. But encounters between her and Andy having to do with school seemed to show there was some chemistry between them, even though it seemed more like they were brother and sister than anything like lovers. Interestingly, all the women that Andy dated were were quite un-Mayberry-like; they were smarter, less traditional, and feisty not in a comical way, but in such a way as to be a threat to Andy. Peggy was probably the closest to the easygoing Mayberry type, though. Helen was usually quite reasonable, but could be absurdly jealous if Andy had to see a nice-looking woman for any reason at all. Ellie was definitely a threat to Andy's male ego, as were the ones who appeared only once, like the rich woman who had been to France, and Sharon deSpain, who he met again at the Mayberry High reunion. |
