If you believe that this dialogue (which is not, IMHO, all that funny) is the actual origin of the name of the tribe you must think harder. The original script had, I'm told, a similar name for the tribe but which began with an "f". This was changed to an "h" for TV purposes. Decency and all that. Strange but true.

I believe it was an old joke that predated the show.

Does anyone know anything of the post F Troop lives of two troopers, Chester Hayes and Ivan Bell? Chester was a beautiful soul and led a good life. Someone said he died around 2000 at the age of 90+ in a house fire. Bell was, I believe, not exactly a pilar of the community but died in 1977 (according to the SSDI) and must have left two minor children, Kim and Kelly, ages (aprox) 15 and 13, respectively. There was no mother. Likely Children's Services removed the girls to foster homes.
