I think I might watch it. Not the WHOLE maraton unless I really get into it, but I have never seen the Flip Wilson show in my life. I wasn't born when it originally aired, but I have heard so many great things about him and the show.

Yeah, Flip Wilson Show brings back some memories! But, I'm wondering who's doing the editing. I could have done without Lena Horne singing Rocky Racoon!!! and Sandy Duncan singing at all!!!! Man, forgot about Lola Falana she was one of those sex symbols of the late-sixties early 70s that hardly any one remembers.

Wasn't this show originally an hour when it aired on NBC? If so, how many episodes are there in the syndication package? Seems like if there were 4 hour long seasons of roughly 24 episodes each there should be close to 200 episodes in 1/2 hr reruns. I notice that they left in some of the musical numbers when they edited them down unlike Carol Burnett which excised all the song and dance routines when it was syndicated. I think Sonny and Cher had the musical numbers chopped out of it as well for syndication.

This show was performed in the round (Flip and the other performers were on a round stage in the middle of the audience). What I'm wondering is did they have video monitors up so the audience members who were sitting behind the actors could see what was going on? From what I have seen of the show, the audience members in the background weren't looking up at any video screen. Who would want to go to a taping of a show and get stuck behind the performers looking at their backs?

I didn't find the Geraldine character to be funny at all.

If you didn't think Geraldine was funny you need help! ;)

I did notice that the audience was looking around some of the scenary. I would hate to be behind all the action! I thought it was an hour I don't remember. I did notice the editing was bad with Bill Cosby in the hospital bed. One minute he's wearing glass and Geraldine' wig is straight, the next minute 'her' wig is pulled over her face and Bill has no glasses.

I did enjoy seeing alot of those guest stars!! Flip had a lot of catch phrases I forgot about, one of which was a song made popular by the Dramatics "what you see is, what you get".

I don't care for men dressing up as women myself nowadays. I think women could have played Shanene (spelling) and Mrs. Payne on Martin and Grandma Puddin instead of Cedric. But back in those days to see a black man do drag in the way Flip did with Geraldine was just funny!, Sorry!.
