Norm is listed as people's favorite character more often than any other character on the show. This fascinates me because I can't think of many other shows where the supporting characters are more popular than the main characters.

Actually, when I first started watching the show (in the Rebecca years) Norm and Carla were my absolute favorites.

Norm was the perfect barfly - the best supporting character. And Wendt was smart enough to make the most of his role without trying to be a "star." This is what he said in an interview:

"I didn't love the Norm episodes as much...I always found them a bit outlandish. It was better when Norm just had a cool entrance or a funny run with Cliff."

Norm was a landmark in TV history. He struck a chord with anyone who has ever felt "average." Without him, I don't think there would be a Homer Simpson.

Yeah Norm was the perfect supporting charecter.

The funny thing is, Norm 9 out of 10 times didn't do much of anything. Yet, he was still funny.

Norm Peterson is without doubt the best character in the history of the world.

Books, Movie, Theater, Television -- nobody is funnier.

From day 1, Norm has been my favorite character. I honestly can't remember not laughing at him.

My favorite Norm moment would have to be the Normism Orville Kruger posted....

Norm is by far the best character, to me anyways. And George Wendt is just incredible. Without a doubt one of my favorite people to walk the planet lol :)

I have to agree with you there! I've always liked Norm :D I like everybody else on Cheers, but he's definitely funny! He was so funny in the ep in Season 3 where Sam and Coach go back to school to get their diplomas and Sam calls Norm and Cliff stupid and then he goes back and asks them to help him w/ his studying...then they start talking like stupid cartoon people. PRICELESS! :rofl:
