Why? A lot of people stereotype black people, and to some of them, they're like "Anyone who is black is a thug or a rappa." So just because Theo didn't call white people honkey tonkeys, they didn't use stereotype black slang (yo, dawg, etc.), doesn't mean it was unrealistic. It's not unrealistic to have a successful black family. I am white but this is just my point of view, I have nothing against other races. But the people who think TCS is unrealistic need to stop being prejudice and stereotypical.

I agree with you that people shouldn't gasp when they see a show about a successful, educated, wealthy African-American family.
Some of the show's critics, however, were African-Americans who thought Cosby was belittling their struggles in a racist society. They thought it would be harmful for their movement if people started to think families like the Cosbys were the norm. So it wasn't just prejudice but a fear that the show would make people believe in a ficticious racial harmony.
This is not my opinion. I'm just explaining what I have heard and read.

Simply put, it was a drama! Everybody's family isn't the same anyway.

The Cosby Show was never meant to have a political agenda like All in the Family. It was just supposed to be an entertaining family show.
My dad's goofier than Cliff, by the way. But only when he's not working.

You are asking me a question you already know the answer to. I'm sure you have seen how he acts on the Cosby Show

He does it to make the people around him laugh, and feel good.
It's not like its uncontrolable, and he's not an outcast for doing it.
So, IMO -- its not "dorky."
