I would love to see The Conners steal the show! It's so great to see Roseanne finally get all the recognition it deserved 10 years ago. Really, it was one of the most popular shows in America for 7 seasons, as well as one of the best tv series ever period, and yet it akways seemed to be treated with disrespect when it was on the air.

Don't forget about the Bunkers. Gloria may have been grown, but they were still a core family unit.

I Love Lucy was fun for the whole family, but its not a "family" sitcom.... so they shouldn't be included.

Id almost guarantee they'll highlight....

As for The Tanners, Tanners, Winslows and Lamberts.... I doubt it.

The Cleavers.... definately deserve a mention.

Although I should add, Leave it to Beaver was a good show -- but I think I may have laughed once, maybe twice in the tons of times Ive watched the show.
Its like The Brady Bunch.... you shouldn't be tuning in looking for laughs, its really only good for nostalgia.

The special will now air July 19 instead of July 26 from 9:30-11PM ET/PT and will feature the last interview with John Ritter, on the day he passed away.
During the Primetime Special of John Ritter on 9/17/03, they mentioned John was doing an interview for the Museum of Television & Radio on the morning he passed away, and this is the interview that he did. Be sure to catch this.

From the Cramdens, Cleavers and Petries to the Huxtables, Bundys and Simpsons, situation comedies have reveled in the hilarity of family dynamics. A team of experts from The Museum of Television & Radio culled through their extensive archives to find the funniest moments celebrating TV families from the last 50 years for The Funniest Families of Television Comedy: A Museum of Television & Radio Special, airing MONDAY, JULY 19 (9:30-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Faith Ford (Hope & Faith) hosts from the set of her current sitcom.

In addition to classic and recent TV moments, many of the stars and creators of these programs share their insights, including John Ritter in his final television interview. Other celebrities interviewed include Rob Reiner, Tim Allen, Norman Lear, Marlo Thomas, Bernie Mac, Ray Romano, Phil Rosenthal, Florence Henderson, Marion Ross, Jane Kaczmarek, Patricia Richardson, Katey Sagal, Frankie Muniz, George Lopez, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Jim Belushi, Topher Grace, Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith.

The program covers the many touchstones of family comedy or example, sibling rivalry, first dates, parenting challenges, in-laws and the birds and the bees. Some of the programs showcased in clips are The Cosby Show, 8 Simple Rules, King of the Hill, Roseanne, Make Room for Daddy, Married With Children, All in the Family, Malcolm in the Middle, Kate & Allie, Friends, Mad About You, That 70s Show, According to Jim, Family Ties, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, My Wife and Kids, Happy Days, Wonder Years, The Jeffersons and many more.

Clips highlighted on the special include an unforgettable dance by the Cosby cast to Ray Charles's The Night Time is the Right Time; the Conners haltingly trying to say grace over dinner on Roseanne, Rob Petrie, panic-stricken at home thinking Laura is in labor; a Cheers Thanksgiving food fight; Murphy Brown in the throes of labor; Phoebe breaking up a catfight between Rachel and Monica on Friends; and Archie Bunker calling Mike a Meathead, for the first time.

The executive producers for the special are John Watkin, Eamon Harrington, John Wolters, Stuart N. Brotman and Diane Lewis. It was directed by John Watkin and Eamon Harrington and is produced by Planet Grande Pictures in association with the Museum of Television & Radio.

A TV parental guideline will be assigned closer to airdate.

Hey, what about the Harpers(Mama's Family)?!

The Harpers were a great dysfunctional family, or as Mama said at last year's TVLand Awards, they were a "benevolent dictatorship." They should be mentioned!

I'm surprised that they're showing clips from "Kate & Allie" and "Make Room for Daddy." I'm happy about both of them, but still a little surprised.

And there were MANY shows that had non-blood families. Jack, Janet and Chrissy of "Three's Company" were as much a family as the "Friends" and "Cheers" characters, probably even more given the fact that they lived together for four years.

It seems there will be some more shows with clips or a mention, but are just not listed in the press release.

Yep, she is. I saw commercials and her face AND name came up.

According to my TV listings, the Funniest Families of TV Comedy will be 90 minutes long, from 8:30pm to 10pm Central. :)

Did they even mention the Tates and The Campbells (Soap) on the show? Seeing the All In The Family clips has me leaning towards picking up the AITF dvd along with the Soap dvd when I go to Target tomorrow.

I watched it lastnight, and I was sort of letdown because I thought they would show more of John's final interview, but only showed bits of it. I also was a bit disappointed when they talked about "extended families" and mentioned Cheers, MASH, Murphy Brown, Mary Tyler Moore, and Friends but NO mention of Three's Company or Facts of Life?:confused:

I saw the TVs Funniest Families. It was good but I have seen so many tv specials that they all kind blend into one. I do remember the scene on Kate and Allie where Allie finds a condom in Chips pocket and mother and son talk. Chip's voice was changing and, the talk and expression on his face is priceless. Allie says Mothers have sex too. It's a prequisite for the job of motherhood.
