I've seen a few commercials for it and it looks like it will be cool Chain Gang Member 06-14-2004, 03:28 PM I'm gonna watch it Edit: No images please, especially when the image has nothing to do with the post. Moonlit_Suburb 06-14-2004, 03:28 PM I've been hearing the "ironic" radio promos for the show...where the announcer is trying to introduce the series, and someone keeps telling him he's not doing it right. He says stuff like "fo-shizzle nizzle" or whatever, and the person keeps telling him not to go there, as he's using all tired cliches or something. Then, when we finally get to a sound clip for the show, one of the title characters says something in ebonics, to which an assumed upper-class woman replies "...I have no idea what that means!" LOLOLOL...not. If that one sound clip represents the general humor of the show, I hope it doesn't last. Either way, I won't be watching. It looks pretty lame, IMO. vashti1999 06-14-2004, 03:39 PM I'll be watching, and hoping it's better than their movie How High. MichaelKane20 06-14-2004, 11:20 PM ONE SEASON WONDER vashti1999 06-14-2004, 11:54 PM Originally posted by alejandro17 ONE SEASON WONDER Can we at least give it a chance to premiere its first episode?? jamesanthony 06-15-2004, 03:57 PM The NY Daily News gave it a decent review. Well they gave it 2 stars (out of 4), but they didn't savagely attack it the way I would have thought. Who knows, maybe it will catch on. Martin ran 5 years and this show would be aimed at a similar type of audience. The only problem is Fox's unorthodox programming strategy which might eat into its ratings. Then again, it might help this become a hit since its on against reruns. vashti1999 06-15-2004, 04:12 PM Originally posted by jamesanthony The NY Daily News gave it a decent review. Much as I disagree with some of Bianculli's previous reviews, I respect his critical assessments more than Hinckley's. But I'd assume Bianculli wouldn't like it anyway. jamesanthony 06-15-2004, 04:38 PM Originally posted by vashti1999 It wasn't Bianculli though, it was Hinckley who reviewed it. I never paid much notice of who is reviewing what. I tend to think that these reviews don't mean anything at all in terms of whether or not a show is successful. Ultimately the decision is made by the Neilsen families or the Peoplemeter families. For me the reviews only serve to make me conscious of some shows' existence. I can think of a lot of shows I like or have liked that the critics hated and some others that i like that they liked too. I'd like to know how many people get into shows based upon the reviews of the critics. edog20716 06-15-2004, 09:17 PM I say screw the critics. Espescially when you have critics like Bill O'reilly bashing them on his TV show. I know he's not a TV/movie critic, but he always seems to have something to say about music ,TV or the movies. I can make up my own mind if the show isn't funny...CLICK.....if it is then I'm happy. Moonlit_Suburb 06-15-2004, 09:23 PM Originally posted by jamesanthony I'd like to know how many people get into shows based upon the reviews of the critics. Judging by the Nielsen ratings, not many at all. Otherwise shows like Freaks and Geeks, Wonderfalls and Arrested Development would be hugely successful. I think those three shows were just about universally praised by critics. isiahthomas 06-16-2004, 10:34 AM What time does Meth & Red come on today? Method Man & Redman need to concentrate on making good albums instead of doing tv shows & movies together cause their music has been terrible the last few yrs. How High movie sucked. Method Man's new cd is horrible. Their tv show isn't gonna last long. I'm gonna give it a month or two. vashti1999 06-16-2004, 04:17 PM It's funny how some of you guys seem so eager to see this show fail when you haven't even seen one episode. With that kind of attitude, y'all would never get jobs. isiahthomas 06-16-2004, 04:42 PM Vashti1999 nobody cares about your opinion. If i think the show is gonna suck, it's gonna suck. I don't care if i haven't seen one episode yet. Just from seeing the previews, i know it's gonna suck. I'm sick of black shows like this with rappers that can't act & the only reason why they're gettin a chance to have their own show is because of their music fans. Even their music fans don't wanna see them act. Hollywood people in charge at these tv networks & movie companies need to stop thinkin that if u put a rapper in a movie or tv show that their fans are gonna watch it cause u can't assume that they are gonna watch. Just cause i may like that person's music doesn't mean i wanna see them do movies & tv shows. vashti1999 06-16-2004, 04:48 PM Originally posted by isiahthomas Vashti1999 nobody cares about your opinion. If you don't care about my opinion, don't respond to what I say. But tell me, what sense does it make for you to assume it'll suck and won't last, yet you ask what time it's going to be on? You know you'll be watching it regardless. jamesanthony 06-16-2004, 05:01 PM I don't know if I would watch this. I might sample it. It doesn't look like anything to go out of my way to see because I was never into their records or How High, but since they're from my ethnic group it catches my attention more so than something like Quintuplets or some reality series vashti1999 06-16-2004, 05:16 PM Originally posted by isiahthomas Vashti1999 nobody cares about your opinion That's funny. That's like saying "nobody cares about someone who makes sense." I sincerely think I'm making some kind of sense when I suggest to y'all that you at least watch the show before knocking it. I don't hold it against anybody whatever their opinion of this show would be, but at least make it an informed opinion instead of calling it lame or saying that it'll suck and won't last. If you watch the show and feel that way, fine. I may feel that way too. I at least haven't said anything negative nor positive about it before I've even seen it. But so what, nobody cares about my opinion. kimkong21 06-16-2004, 05:56 PM [QUOTE]Originally posted by isiahthomas [B]. Why is it that your your just of black rappers who can't act Isiah??? There are those who can Like Mos Def ,Will Smith and when Will Smith started he wasn't very good in fact he admits to mouthing the words of his fellow acters to cue himself. I'm a little new here so I don't know where you stand on a lot of issues, but I'm going to see the show for myself and then judge before I decide yea or nay. Television uses models singers sociallites athletes even politicians to attract viewers because there are alot of 'fans' and admieres out there who buy the products advertised on these shows. Rappers including 'black' rappers and white rappers like Emiem(Eight Mile) all have fans who have $$ who may want to see them. felicitylen 06-17-2004, 08:34 AM I didn't even bother watching this show. Did anyone actually watch it? automatic princess 06-17-2004, 09:19 AM Originally posted by felicitylen I didn't even bother watching this show. Did anyone actually watch it? I watched it. It wasn't that bad. I thought it was pretty funny. My second favorite show of the night after the Simple Life 2. "We need a mirror. We should go to Wal-Mart!" vashti1999 06-17-2004, 09:48 AM It wasn't bad. They should have just left off the laugh track, it sounded so unnatural. Other Fox sitcoms like Malcolm, Arrested Development and Bernie Mac work well without the laugh track. The other thing I didn't like was the editing, with the movement of the camera, it reminded me of the Romeo show on Nickelodeon. Aside from that, it was alright. Pavan 06-17-2004, 02:11 PM The show is not going to last much if it has the ratings it did for episode one last night: "Method & Red," 4.9/8 which was down big time from the 6.1/11 from its lead-in. edog20716 06-17-2004, 05:31 PM I liked the show. I think it was funny and will watch it again. I think some people were scarred of by O'Rielly's comments, but like I said screw him. Meth And Red was funny.People will tune in when they hear about it from they're friends. March.Madness 06-17-2004, 10:48 PM It wasn't good. The show has a lot of jokes and characters that have been done before and just aren't funny. White people being clueless about how the rappers talk, the rap-loving white kid, the friend who agrees with everything one of the characters say...it's just not funny. EDIT: Almost forgot to mention the laugh track. Wow...that was a bad idea. The lack of a laugh track was one of the few things I was looking forward to in this show. kimkong21 06-18-2004, 05:19 PM I liked it. The premise has obviously been done before and on the service it looked to me like it was going to be a one trick pony, but I saw more going on as I watched .As with any show things shift and change to taylor it to the audience. Methodman And Redman are likeable characters. Sargent Stewie 06-18-2004, 07:03 PM This show is hella funny, but there's no doubt that this show is racist. The mama is always like "don't sleep with white women!" kimkong21 06-21-2004, 01:48 PM This show isn't racist. isiahthomas 06-22-2004, 10:17 AM March Madness i agree with u. This show isn't good already. We've seen shows like this before. Cena637 where u live in Maryland? I see Larenz Tate's brother Lahmard who was in Barbershop movie is on Meth & Red's show. Who is that black guy that's Meth & Red's flunkie & he always agrees with everything they say? I've seen him before in somethin but i can't remember what. marvin g 06-23-2004, 09:21 PM Seen it, wasn't funny or hardly amsuing. May watch another episode to make sure. :) edog20716 06-25-2004, 05:21 PM Dude, this show is funny.Meth and Red get short changed by a lot of people, but I think they're funnier then a lot of other sitcom actors. BowWowsBreezy 07-10-2004, 10:28 PM i gave the show a chance....then i changed the channel about 8 bleeps later lol...that is by far the most rediculous excuse for a sitcom vashti1999 07-24-2004, 12:07 AM Can everybody hear the crickets chirping on the "Method & Red" board? isiahthomas 08-10-2004, 11:11 AM My friend told me this show is about to be cancelled cause the ratings are very low. I knew this was gonna happen. I only gave the show a few months to last anyway. |
