Pavanbadal, if any of this is incorrect or if you need to change anything, go right ahead. I figured many people here would be interested in this information.
Pavan 06-14-2004, 02:18 PM Looks good. I think Boston Public won't be coming this fall though; I guess it didn't sell. Ricki Lake is canceled too, which I know you know but I guess forgot to list it. I think they'll make Fear Factor into two half hours though? Maybe I'm wrong on that.
My bets for the sitcoms in NY:
I am betting Malcolm will be on BOTH WNYW and WWOR. Yes, Dear will probably be just WWOR, same goes for Girlfriends.

I'm not sure about Fear Factor. I think FX is airing it as an hour, so that's what I'm going by. I remember reading somewhere about 14 minutes of advertising per episode, which would indicate hour long but I'm still not 100%.
vashti1999 06-14-2004, 02:40 PM Any info on any new syndicated dramas, in the vein of Star Trek Deep Space Nine or VIP, or do they not even make those types of shows anymore?
"South Park" is also debuting in syndication in Fall 2005. It hasn't found a home in NY yet. It will air on KCAL Los Angeles, WCIU Chicago, WPSG Philadelphia, WSBK Boston, and KBHK San Francisco, among others. My guess is that it will air late nights.
Pavan 06-30-2004, 04:23 PM Hmm maybe America's Funniest Home Videos is coming to locals this fall? WGN is going to add it this fall.

The Bob Saget episodes(that PAX airs) or the newer sucky episodes?

The newer ones I believe, with Bergeron (who is better than Saget).

I remember hearing about this last January and it was for fall 2003 but it never happened. I guess it's happening now.
Scoobiedoo30 07-01-2004, 02:00 AM That is good That America's Funniest Home Video's is coming to WGN.
Sitcomwriter 07-01-2004, 02:56 PM I guess this means Grounded for Life comes next year and Scrubs the year after that, right?

I don't know yet about locals, but Grounded for Life is coming to ABC Family in January.

Really? That doesnt excatly fit the "family" theme. Grounded for Life is TV-14, right? My guess is ABC Family will butcher it, like they did with Who's The Boss?, which is only TV-PG.

factsoflife 07-03-2004, 01:05 AM Could you please tell us which shows will be starting syndication on the cable networks? any?
factsoflife 07-03-2004, 01:07 AM Oh and The Sharon Osbourne show has also been canceled.
Any news on On-Air w/ Ryan Seacrest, canceled or renewed? oh and isn't Malcom coming to FX? and when does Reba start Syndication?

Yes, Sharon is canceled, you're right. Ryan Seacrest was renewed. Malcolm starts on FX in 2007. Reba starts in syndication in fall 2006 on Lifetime and local channels.
factsoflife 07-03-2004, 03:47 PM Thanks so much!
Lifetime seems to be picking up a lot of great shows, next they have Will and Grace coming then Frasier after that and Reba!
PPatters 07-03-2004, 04:36 PM "On Air" has not been renewed; Ryan's contract for another season of a talk show has been renewed. What that means for "On Air" is skeptical; a major overhaul may be in store according to zap2it.com.
factsoflife 07-04-2004, 12:07 AM Ok thanks. That makes more sense. It seems to me like On Air is a blatan rip-off of TRL. Same type of stuido, in fact almost an exact replica except for the color scheme. But its not as much fun as TRL.

I'm very surprised Jerry Springer is not on the list. That's been on the air thirteen years too long.

I am still in shock over Wayne Brady being cancelled, he is so talented, and he actually had one of the very few great talk shows out there, were his ratings that bad?
I wish Millionaire with Meredith Viera were cancelled, I cannot stand her or that show, she is def. no Regis  I can't believe they keep her on and get rid of Wayne's show :cuss:

I agree, I watched Ryan's show a few times for the guests and it sucked. It was way too TRL-structured.
What else I hate is that he makes the ASSumption that everyone watching his talk show are obviously AI fans... Carson Daly knows better than to use his talk show as a TRL promo, because he realizes a lot of the people who might watch Last Call may not like TRL.

Yeah I read they hacked WTB so bad it wasn't worth watching  I am shocked though cause they are hardly editing much on Boy Meets World, just a bit for time not content.

Syndicated "South Park" getting ready for fall 2005 launch
Broadcast stations reaching 85% of the country have signed up for a fall 2005 syndication launch of Comedy Central's animated hit "South Park," to be distributed by Tribune Broadcasting. The biggest market clearances include WPIX New York, KCAL Los Angeles and WCIU Chicago.
I think it can only air after 11 p.m. ... but this is in 2005, not this fall.

what is the point of syndicating South Park? Comedy Central ALWAYS airs the old episodes, so there's no real point

For people without cable.
But if you dont have cable.... you dont DESERVE South Park.

rofl, I agree.
I was just thinking it's funny to "syndicate" SP when it's on cable... considering the big hype about putting Sex And The City on TBS. IMO, once you're on cable, you've basically are in syndication. I do kinda miss the days when CC aired Sports Night reruns tho

I also miss when E! ran reruns of Kate and Allie and Too Close For comfort.

E! used to be so cool in the mid-late 90's, and then they decided the audience would rather just watch endless specials about Britney Spears than other programs.
I still like True Hollywood Story tho
Even with the late hour broadcasts, I'm sure the syndicated South Park will come include edits and more bleeps.
There are a number of episodes I can't even see them including in the package.

if Comedy Central can show it, I don't see why another channel couldn't. It's not like the difference between cable and pay-cable (like shows like Sex And The City and Queer As Folk would have to be edited to be shown on regular television)

The different is that cable (premium and basic) isn't under FCC jurisdiction. Broadcast TV is.

This is true, but if Bush and FCC Chairman Powelle have their way that will be changed. their is a bill in congress being considered that would change it so that cable would be under FCC jurisdiction. Its scary and thats one reason why i hope Kerry is elected because the democrates have historically been more lineunet when it comes to the FCC. This Janet Jackson/Superbowl thing has really thrown Powelle and the FCC into a frenzy.

 In the new tv guide they have a little spot where they ask actors what show they're watching this week. I can't remember who said it, but they said they loved Sex and the City, but won't watch it on TBS because they've cut out all good stuff, which is so true

I think as long as the series airs after a certain time (like South Park never airs before 9, and I've never seen Nip/Tuck before 10 EST), the content should be excused. Not everything is meant for kids and people who are out of the age range to watch these shows SHOULD BE ASLEEP AT THE TIME.
Dean Winchester 07-21-2004, 10:25 PM Originally posted by factsoflife
I totally agree with you. I mean why should we make shows kid-friendly if they air at 1opm or later. kids have control of the tv for most of the day (except for talk shows and soaps) and adults need shows that are for them too. i am 22 and if i want to watch Nip/Tuck or Sex and the City i should be allowed to.
I remember back in the "old days", the pay-cable channels never aired any R-rated movies before 8 pm EST. I think it's very reasonable and that is how it should be handled with "mature programming". I agree that a show like Sex And The City does not belong in the daytime, but at 10, it's at a time where most parents should be sending their kids to bed.
A little off topic, but also on topic in a way. I hate the way Disney Channel has changed in recent years. I remember in the mid/late 90's, after about 9 pm, they aired movies, tv shows, documentaries and concert specials intended for the PARENTS, while the daytime was for the kids (kinda like Nick At Nite, but a little different), but yet now, Disney airs the kiddy crap 24 hours a day. I highly doubt you have many college students deciding to take a break from mid-terms who are going to turn on That's So Raven in the middle of the night, like they would an old Roseanne rerun or something. Disney used to be entertaining, but now it's catered to pre-teens 24 hours a day, instead of putting some stuff in the evening/night hours for ADULTS to enjoy also.
factsoflife 07-22-2004, 01:14 AM Once again i agree with you TOTALLY! Its so true. I remember when Disney used to be centred on the whole family not just the kids. it seems like the term "Family Friendly" has been whorped into "Only for kids". its a shame too.

I know plenty of college kids here in Florida who do it, I'm one. Plus it's the summer time and most kids don't follow sleeping schedules during the summer, so that's one of the reasons for them changin TV schedules.
I think too many of us "grown up" people complain alot, there's my agreement.

well, Disney Channel was better back in the 90's when after the evening hours, the put stuff for the adults to enjoy. Kinda like the way Nick At Nite attracts an audience that never watches Nickelodeon. If Nickelodeon decided to can Nick At Nite so they could air Fairly Oddparents at 3 am, there would be a huge backlash.
Most of the shows on Disney Channel at night do not generally appeal to older people (even Nick At Night never airs Full House between 10-5, except in marathons... why? because it's not exactly a show adults are gonna watch without their kids) and Nick kinda dumbed down by airing Lizzie McGuire and the sort at night, instead of the programming they used to air.
If they're going to censor tv and clean it up, then I think we have the right to complain about that most adults don't wanna watch this kinda programming at midnight. Kids have their daytime and evenings... adults have earned the right to the night.
Absolutely. It's not TV's job to babysit your kids.
I think that after 10 pm, all bets should be off.

Edited the first post to reflect the cancellation of "On Air with Ryan Seacrest." The last new episode will air on 9/17. See more info on the Talk Shows board.
Also, a couple of times are rolling in for syndicated shows in New York, especially those on WCBS. The first post also reflects these.
9:00AM WCBS Larry Elder Show (replaces Living It Up)
7:00PM WCBS The Insider (replaces Hollywood Squares)
If anyone else has seen any promos for any new shows to syndication, especially the 3 sitcoms, post them here.

Gilmore Girls - ABC Family
Grounded for Life - ABC Family

Slightly off topic, but since there was no mention of A Different World as one of the shows expiring on locals, would that mean WWOR or some other station here in NYC will still be showing it in the fall?

It could be expiring just for WWOR, but the two shows that were listed there are expiring nationwide. I don't think Different World is expiring on WWOR though, and I expect it on their fall line-up (probably the same 9-10am slots). The fall lineup isn't available just yet.

Starting the weekend of September 18/19, WLNY will air Walker, Texas Ranger on Saturdays from 1:00 to 2:00 a.m. (actually early Sunday morning) and on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Pavan 08-12-2004, 12:01 PM The full WLNY-TV55 line-up is in! I'll list the changes:
Starting Sept. 13
Weekdays
9:00AM Life & Style (replaces Martha Stewart Living)
(Everything else remains the same)
Saturday nights
1:00AM Walker, Texas Ranger (replaces Larry Sanders Show)
Sundays
3:00PM Walker, Texas Ranger (replaces MOVIE)
4:00PM Matlock (replaces MOVIE cont.)
7:00PM CSI (replaces Matlock)

you would be suprised "even stevens" was popular among college students and had a drinking game at certain campuses
but buffy, after 9pm on disney back in the 90's was not too much different than the daytime, it was still something the family could watch together.

true, but it was adult movies and specials that weren't inappropriate for kids to watch... but were still geared for the adults. You'd never see any R-rated movies on there, or "questionable" music special, but still they showed movies and music specials that the parents would be able to enjoy. Now Disney is tween-central 24/7, even at 3 in the morning.

Good news and bad news on this. Good news: Different World will be airing 4 times a day starting Aug. 30. Weekdays at 9am-10am AND 4-5pm. Bad news: It will be temporary. Probably just until 9/13, when Fear Factor takes 4PM.
This is how the week of 9/6 looks on WWOR:
9-10am Different World/Pyramid (only on 9/7)
10-11am Pyramid
11am Just Shoot Me
11:30am Spin City
12pm Blind Date
12:30pm Hughleys
1pm Live Like a Star
1:30pm Ambush Makeover
2pm Live Like a Star
2:30pm Ambush Makeover
3pm Cops
3:30pm Cops
4pm Different World/Steve Harvey (only on 9/7)
4:30pm Diffrerent World/Hughleys (only on 9/7)
5pm Steve Harvey
5:30pm Hughleys
6-7pm King of Queens
7-8pm The Parkers
WWOR's fall line-up starts on Sept. 13. What I do know so far is that Yes, Dear will air at 12-1pm; Pat Croce will air 2-3pm; Fear Factor will air 4-5pm; Malcolm in the Middle at 6pm, King of Queens moves to 6:30 & 7pm; and Girlfriends will air at 7:30pm & 11pm. So if I had to take a guess at the Fall line-up, this is how it might be:
9-10am Different World?, 10-11am TBA (Pyramid is gone this fall), 11am Just Shoot Me, 11:30am Spin City, 12-1pm Yes, Dear, 1-2pm Cops?; 2-3pm Pat Croce, 3pm Live Like a Star?, 3:30pm Ambush Makeover?; 4pm Fear Factor; 4:30pm Blind Date?; 5pm Steve Harvey?, 5:30pm The Parkers?; 6pm Malcolm in the Middle, 6:30pm King of Queens, 7pm King of Queens, 7:30pm Girlfriends, 11pm Girlfriends, 11:30pm Steve Harvey or Drew Carey?, 12am Fear Factor, 12:30am Blind Date?, 1am 5th Wheel?, 1:30am EX-treme Dating?
All the question marks are my "guesses." That morning 9-11am block could be interesting. I wonder what they will air? Hopefully some 80s sitcoms, but I doubt it. I bet it'll be shows like Steve Harvey or King of the Hill or even worse, Blind Date.
WWOR's fall line-up should be available next week.

Pavan 09-01-2004, 10:02 AM Looks like WPIX is changing a bit, week of Sept. 13:
We knew about this:
1:00PM Home Delivery (replaces Sharon Osbourne)
Here are the other changes
6:30PM Will & Grace (replaces Frasier)
1:00AM Frasier (replaces Inside Edition)
2:00AM Inside Edition (replaces Three's Company)
3:00AM Life & Style (replaces Honeymooners/Taxi)
Everything else remains the same. So 3 Will & Grace's now (6-7pm and 12am), Frasier is now back-to-back late nights (1230am and 1am), Three's Company, Taxi, and The Honeymooners are gone, though The Odd Couple remains at 2:30am, and Life & Style is also on WPIX at 3am (in addition to 9am on WLNY).
WNYW's schedule changes a bit, too, week of Sept. 13:
12:00AM Malcolm in the Middle (replaces That '70s Show)
1:00AM That '70s Show (replaces Just Shoot Me)
1:30AM Just Shoot Me (replaces King of the Hill)
So, That '70s Show hour is moved up a half hour, from 12-1am to 12:30am-1:30am. Just Shoot me moves up a half hour, too. King of the Hill is gone, but it can be seen 9-10am on WWOR for this week ONLY.

Wow! "Who's the Boss?" returns to WWOR-TV. That show really digs you back in time since it was on back in the early 90's.:) I like to see that show again since channel 9 used to be on years ago. I hope Nick at Nite still has the show. What a great comeback to WWOR-TV. "Who's the Boss?" on channel 9 is back!!! Thanks a lot, Pav for the info.;)

Hmm, that sounds about right.
I just discovered that WHNO-Ind-20 is now airing "Little House on the Prairie" every afternoon at 4pm central (I'm watching it as I type!). I am DELIRIOUSLY happy about this! I haven't watched WHNO regularly since they took off "Marcus Welby MD" and before that I watched "The Lucy Show," both of which I hope return.
"Malcolm in the Middle" will air on WNOL-WB-38 (channel 11 in my area) at 5 and 5:30 pm every afternoon. That's a good slot for it, especially if I try to get back into it.
"Fear Factor" will be replacing an hour of classic "Cops" on WGNO-ABC-26 (channel 7 here) at 3pm everyday.
Scoobiedoo30 09-08-2004, 01:00 AM I was wondering when did Marcus Welby M.D. Leave WHNO-TV-20.
musicradio77 09-08-2004, 05:16 PM I was posting it on the "Honeymooners" board this morning that Pav mentioned that the "Honeymooners" will be gone at 3 AM starting September 13th with "Life & Style".:( The other shows "Three's Company" and "Taxi" are both gone from WPIX. That was sad news. The only 70's show left is "The Odd Couple" at 2:30 AM. That's the only show you'll watch.
TJHooker 09-09-2004, 02:14 AM I was just going through my TIVO listings and it appears that Bosom Buddies is airing on Sunday mornings on channel 59 WCTX in Hartford, CT

I had to go to TVguide.com to realize this since the magazine doesn't list what airs on any channel between 2 and 6 am which is a shame.
I was wondering why WB11's schedule is so stale. They haven't added any new off network comedies or dramas in the last 2 years. At least last season they resusciated those old sitcoms in the 2-4 am block. This year only Odd Couple and the same old same old Frasier, Friends, Raymond etc. Very very boring. I'm guessing it is because in the NYC area Rupert Murdoch's channels 5 and 9 have more clout and they can afford the newer off network shows like Yes Dear, Girlfriends etc. WB11's main attraction in the daytine still seems to be Jerry Springer which is pathetic.
BTW I still can't get used to 5 and 9 sharing shows like Malcolm, Just Shoot Me and others. This was unheard of years ago.
On the plus side Ricki Lake is gone, talk shows that exploit regular people (paternity tests, cheating etc) are on the wane and UPN9 has a mostly sitcom rerun lineup in the daytime (including Who's the Boss I think) although it looks like A Different World is leaving and Steve Harvey checks out after just two years in syndication. If I had my druthers I'd have kept these and threw out The Parkers or King of the Hill.
jamesanthony 09-09-2004, 01:56 PM Good to see the Cosby Show back on wwor in nyc 2x a day. It started on this channel in the fall of 1988 and ran there for 11 years I believe. At one point it came on like 4x a day.
I have a question about Becker. In NYC it comes on at something like 2:35 am on wcbs2 (I forgot if it is going to continue there this fall). This is a very strange timeslot for a sitcom in its first year in reruns (especially for a show that was still airing fresh episodes in primetime when it was syndicated). What is the story behind that weird timeslot? Does CBS have some sort of deal with this show that it can only air on a cbs affiliate station? I would think this would be in prime access timeslots in early evening or against the 11 oclock news and the Tonight Show the way King of Queens and The Parkers have been.

Basically, Paramount, who distributes Becker, had a very hard time getting any stations in NYC (and LA for the matter) to buy the show, so they had to settle for late night runs on WCBS. It also airs late night in LA on KCBS.

Oh, OK. I would think this show would've been seen as being more of a commodity for one thing it's set in New York. At least CBS channel 2 still has some offnetwork reruns like this and Home Improvement (which also airs in a gravedigger's timeslot). The local nbc affiliate doesn't waste its time with syndicated reruns (except for Providence on Monday mornings at like 2:30), and abc7 only has the E/R theatre back to back on Sat night/Sun morning. ABC used to throw on a very obscure western like The Guns of Will Sonnett on Sat morning in the wee hours.
When I was growing up in the 70s and 80s all the non-pbs stations had off network reruns taking up healthy portions of their schedules. The CBS, NBC and ABC stations would air reruns of shows that were still on in prime time like Jeffersons, Laverne and Shirley, Golden Girls, Growing Pains, Brady Bunch and they would carry offnetwork reruns too like Mary Tyler Moore, Here's Lucy, Barnaby Jones etc. This was back in the days when Donahue was the only talk show in syndication that had noncelebrity guests and you had Mike Douglas, Dinah Shore doing sit down talk shows that were more akin to Jay Leno than the shows like Montell with the real people in them. Economics and cable have forever changed the landscape of tv.

Tell me about it. I was hoping Becker would switch channels but WCBS has a contract to air the show for another 3 years, like every other channel who has it. Home Improvement only airs on weekends (Sundays at 1AM I think). WWOR's schedule, although improved now, would look even better if it had both of these shows.

Becker also airs twice a day on KDOC, an UHF indie based in near-by Orange County. Also, Becker sorta rotated between KCAL and KCBS before finally settling on KCBS. KCBS/KCAL gave no promotion of that show when they picked up the syndication rights. KDOC and WGN, however, did.
