I just recently recieved a VHS collector's set of episodes of Steptoe & Son in the mail, which I had purchased from Amazon.ca.It was worth it!Sanford and Son was apparently a take off from this British sitcom which appaers to have been produced at the same time.To an extent I can see some resemblance. However Harold Steptoe seems nothing like Lamont.Harold is very high strung, while his father seems a little bit more laid back.It seems to me that Fred and Lamont are the opposite.Meaning that Fred was the high strung one while Lamont seemed much more laid back.In recent time I've taped a whole series of Sanford and Son episodes from TV Land.

I'd always wondered about this show. Was the humor very bawdy? Did they joke about things like race/sex etc... stuff that was off limits in American sitcoms in the 60s? Was it in color or black and white? I guess most importantly, was it funny?

Steptoe and Son was a colour show that was videotaped the same way Sanford and Son was,and like Sanford and Son,Steptoe and Son was performed infront of a live studio audience. The show itself is hilarious and yes,the humour was quite bawdy.
