View Full Version : I have to agree with the Bank Manager, J.J's painting was inappropiate for a Bank.
TVFactFan 06-08-2004, 12:07 PM The Bank Manager refused to have J.J's painting on the side of the Bank because he felt it showed the unpleasant side of ghetto life and I have to agree. That was not the type of painting to be on the wall of a Bank with pool hustles shooting pool inside a Ran down pool room. But we all know the J.J character didn't have the common sense to know that-LOL

It was a bit more appropriate than keeping stolen money from a grocery store.

I guess you also had a problem with James going into Thelma's College fund so the Evans could eat and survive.

At least that money belonged to the family.
I'm curious. I know you're no big fan of J.J., but you seem to feel that anything goes when it comes to making money. Did you approve of the shady deals that J.J. tried to get into after James died? It's pretty clear that he got an amoral philosophy from one of his parents and it obviously wasn't Florida.

James never gambled or sold drugs so i don't understand what you mean when you say J.J got a amoral philosophy from James. All James did was find some money that could have helped his family eat and pay bills.

Last I checked, keeping stolen money is immoral and worse than gambling. Florida was equally appalled at the dishonest acts committed by James and J.J. in the name of helping the family.

Florida wanted to stay poor
nerrad 06-09-2004, 08:44 AM That's was one of the first things I thought about when I first watched that episode many years ago. I have agree here. His mural did look out of place in a bank. Back then, I just went along with the flow. Until someone else mentioned it. I thought I was only one who felt that way about it. I wonder how long it took for him to "do it". A huge mural like that probably would take weeks. On GT, it seemed like the next day. LOL

Florida wanted to stay poor if getting rich involved selling her soul.

Exactly! It's not that Florida wanted to be poor, she was just a good Christian woman with strong beliefs.
nerrad 06-09-2004, 11:02 AM The bank manager used to trip me out on Sanford and Son, playing a undertaker. His "dead" jokes were funny.
Excuse my cold hands. Cold hands, warm chapel.
another one: forgot the first part, but I know it ended with "business is dead"
same as the sceond, but ended with "I'm a working stiff".
:D
He made a joke or two on Good Times, didn't he.

No one went hungry. It was just a struggle to keep going, but they did it and with self respect. It's not even completely about Christianity. Mike Stivic, on All In The Family, was an atheist, but had similar beliefs about being honest. It's just average human decency that tells us we shouldn't take something that other people have earned.

You mean the guy who spounged off his father in law for several years to make something out of himself?
Michael was an extreme character who had his beliefs compramised from time to time!! Or was shown at times what he truly believed in was not neccesarily best for everyone.
FLorida may as well have been Jesus Christ himself!!
nerrad 06-28-2004, 03:00 PM "What's wrong with shooting a little 8 ball"? The guess the question was, is that all he knew how to paint?

That's the stupidest part. You somehow think that accepting room and board that is given to you by an in-law is somehow worse than keeping stolen money.
