Over the past weekend of June 4-6, Eric Clapton hosted a benefit concert for his "Crossroads" dependency clinic in Antiqua. All the big named guitarist were invited to play. The list of guitarist was a who's who of the best, they included: Carlos Santana, B.B. King, John Mayer, Jimmie Vaughn, Bo Diddley, Joe Walsh, etc. and the list goes on.

But as I read the list of those invited, I noticed that the women guitarist were left out. Why were the women not invited?:confused:

There are plenty of women who can play with the best of the men who were there. Where were: Melissa Ethridge, Bonnie Raitt, Chrissie Hynde, Deborah Coleman, Ann Wilson, Emmylou Harris, Joan Jett, Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell, Lita Ford, Joyce Cooling, India Arie and again the list could go on.

Its a shame the ladies were excluded, I guess even when it comes to playing the guitar, the glass ceiling applies there too.

Not cool Eric, remember women enjoy and buy music too.

women have concerts all the time. Like that Women that Rock thing.

Sheryl Crow plays guitar, too. I think people should stop segregation when it comes to music. I mean, back in the past women didn't have equal rights with men. But, now women have equal rights, too. I think they have since either the '60s or '70s. I think these benefit concerts should always have a mixed gender ratio. Say, five women singers or groups and five men singers or groups. Even it out.

why is what Clapton's doing any different than what Sarah McLachlan did with Lillith Fair? Don't forget VH1 has Diva's Live every year, and Lifetime has Women Who Rock. I don't see anything necessarily wrong with an all-male one

I understand that musically women have their agendas to be showcased, i.e. Lilithfair, Women who Rock, etc. But in my opinion women, and the reason I bring it up, women still don't have the exposure that the men have, and I just feel that Eric Clapton could have added a few women to the show. How many men really want to be apart of something call "Lilithfair?" Not many. I would like to see the guys be a part of those venues that feature women.

I just feel it would have been nice to have the women participate.

An article written in today's L.A. Times Calander section also agrees with me: "......Clapton's guest list showed little regard for age or style......The only thing missing was a Bonnie Raitt or Susan Tedeschi to prove the guitar isn't the exclusive domain of men."
