Unfortunately Ive never seen an episode of Make Room for Daddy (waaay before my time, and free-to-air generally doesnt do reruns as old as the 50s :( )

But Im wondering, from what Ive read around the net Danny yelled a lot and wasnt at home much because of his job. How did his first wife (Margaret?) react to this? Was she calm and accepting about it or did she yell back?

Thanks :)

I don't think she yelled back and his yelling was kind of bluff yelling not screaming, nasty yelling.

You have to remember in those days wives just stayed home and accepted the husband being on the road and out working.

I know the wives didnt leave the house, in english we've been studying sitcoms in the 50s (and 90/00s) and how thye reflect society. Most of the shows imply that women would always obey their husbands wishes and generally not take a stand.

However I saw an episode of The Honeymooners where Ralph yelled at Alice and Alice (instead of taking the order) yelled back refusing to.

It kind of struck me as odd, because that kind of behaviour is contradictory to what the "perfect" wife was in other shows.

Anyway it helps to know that Danny was yelling obsenities (emphasis on men losing their cool while women remain calm) and that his wife simply accepted it :)

...yelled at each other. They fought like every good husband and wife did- but that didn't mean they DIDN'T love each other. No, if Danny could bellow, so could SHE. That added to the fun (and tension) of each episode. You can imagine how volatile the REAL Thomas family was.....
