What theme songs had opening theme songs you liked? I liked:

Most shows before the 90s had themes that even if they weren't spectacularly classic at least defined the show. The 90s gave way to themeless shows or bland unoriginal music.

I like so many: The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, Room 222, Get Smart, Mary Tyler Moore (the version with Who can turn the world on with her smile?), I Dream of Jeannie's first theme, Maude, Good Times, Cosby Show (I like Jr Walker at the Apollo the best), Danny Thomas Show, Taxi, Dallas and One Day at a Time.

The following shows had great opening theme songs IMHO:

I love Roseanne's theme song, especially how it changed every season, but was still the same basic song. The "rock" version of season six is my favorite, but I also like the lyrics.

When people list the most memorable tv openings, it always amazes me that they leave out Roseanne's kitchen table scene- a scene which bascially summed up the entire series and was synonimous with the show. Like the theme song, I loved how it changed every season, but was still the same basic scene.

The openings I hate the most are the ones that are 5 seconds long and the ones that only show clips of actors from the show. come up with something original!

The Young and the Restless has an iconic theme song, the General Hospital Theme used through the 70s and 80s during the height of its popularity was a pretty classic theme as well.

I've always liked the Guiding Light theme used from 1983-1990. Although it had several different arrangements I enjoyed them all.

I don't remember the name of the show: but the song was Beyond Awesome! It went:"Stand in the place where you Live, think about direction, wonder why you haven't before. . . .Stand in the place where you work...think about direction wonder why you haven't. . ."
