Van Halen. They made some really cool songs, especially around the mid-80s. Twisted Sister is second.

all 4 of those ROCKED in their day, I'll need to think about it. I think probably Van Halen in the Roth days.

On the list, Def Leppard. I've liked them for 20 years.

Off the list, my favorite band is a progressive metal band named Dream Theater. I've been a fan of theirs for 10 years, and they've been around longer than that. For a band who hardly ever gets any radio airplay, they have such a huge fanbase. My brother got me listening to them when I heard him listening to them and asked him, OMG, who is this? I've never done that with any band. Usually it takes me a bit to get used to a band's music. I was instantly hooked. What I like about them is they write great music, they are amazing live, and they are absolutely awesome to their fans.

I saw a couple of their shows back in April and I drove from Fla to Boston because they weren't coming down here. I've never driven that far for any band and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. They're touring again at the end of the summer. I can't wait. If they don't come down here again, it looks like it's on the road again!!

Metallica didn't become mainstream until the early 1990's, I think 80's Fan's list is for the best of the hard rock bands who ruled MTV and the radio this time 20 years ago. Metallica were underground until And Justice For All, and didn't get pop airplay until Enter Sandman, whereas Crue, Lep, Van Halen and Twisted Sister were all huge on MTV in the early/mid 80's. It'd be like limping in Korn with a bunch of grunge-era bands

"...And justice for all" was #6 on the billboards with no help from the radio or MTV :king:

This list is a wee bit weak. But I'm here now, and I choose Van Halen--Roth Years. :grr:

My choice would be between Def Leppard and Van Halen. Though I think that Van Halen have turned out many great albums where as Def Leppard have only turned out a couple of great records, at both bands' peak, Leppard was better. Pyromania and Hysteria are classics.

actually, I know that. I lived through that era, and :::shock::: I actually used to LOVE Metallica. I started losing interest when Load came out (no, NOT because of the haircuts, I just only liked about 1/3rd of the album, and we waited FOREVER for the album to finally come out), but when Lars started suing his fans in 2000, I decided to boycott them for life, but I actually still like the classic stuff. But actually, yes, I KNOW AJFA went to #6, I am a Billboard junkie and 1988 was the year I started reading the magazine. I never said AJFA or Master Of Puppets or whatever sucked... I just said that I don't exactly think of Metallica in the same breath as Motley Crue, Def Leppard and Van Halen.... same way I don't think of Nirvana in the same breath as Guns N Roses, Metallica or Poison. Metallica were around back in the days, but they didn't really explode in popularity until a few years later.

However, I am kinda surprised if you love Metallica and the 1980's hard rock/heavy metal scene that you don't love at least 3 of the 4 bands polled and have a fave of them. I mean, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Van Halen and Twisted Sister all rocked in their day.
