Ex-Football Star Who Was Acquitted on Double-Murder Charge Plans Reality Show

LOS ANGELES (June 4) - Ten years after the double murder for which he was acquitted but left a virtual pariah, O.J. Simpson says in a television interview that he is angry at his slain ex-wife and hopes to star in a new TV reality show.

"There are times I am angry at her," the former football star said in an interview set to air next week with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren, who covered Simpson's 1994-95 trial on charges of murdering ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

Excerpts of the interview, conducted in a Florida hotel and set to air next Monday on Fox News' "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren," were released by the cable channel on Thursday.

"There are things that she could be doing with the kids better than than I, you know? When, it's emotional stuff, especially with my daughter, I am angry with her," Simpson said of his former wife. "I am angry that she found herself hanging out with the group of -- who are these people?"

Acquitted of murder charges in the June 12, 1994 double slaying but later found liable for their deaths in a civil trial, Simpson has steadfastly maintained his innocence, insisting his ex-wife fell victim to a shadowy world of crime and drugs surrounding a group of friends she cultivated before her death.

Since families of the murder victims were awarded $33.5 million in damages in 1997, Simpson and his children have retreated into seclusion, living near Miami on a $4 million pension that is exempt from civil court judgments.

Asked by Van Susteren about reports of his involvement in an upcoming reality show, Simpson said, "it's a takeoff on something called 'Punk'd"', an MTV hidden-camera show featuring Ashton Kutcher pranks on celebrities. "It's me doing gags as Juice ... what they call 'juicing' people." Simpson earned the nickname Juice during his legendary career as a running back in the National Football League.

Ranking the chances the show will come to fruition on a scale of one to 10, Simpson said, "It's seven or eight, that it's gonna happen."

He also expressed sympathy for two other celebrities facing high-profile criminal cases at the moment -- pop singer Michael Jackson and basketball star Kobe Bryant -- saying he considers both innocent until proven guilty.

A Fox News spokesman said it is believed to be Simpson's first sit-down network TV interview since on-camera appearances with Fox News and NBC in late July 2000.

Although Van Susteren was the first to land a Simpson interview for the 10th anniversary of the murder case, NBC expects to beat Fox News to the punch with a special "Dateline NBC" edition on Friday featuring its own Simpson interview with Katie Couric that will be taped earlier in the day.

On a side note, I notice that people are angry at Simpson and just plain hate him. But I almost never hear anyone complain about the trial itself. I learned a lot about it from my criminal justice instructor in the spring semester this year. The DA and the prosecution botched the case. If I were a juror in that trial, I would have to put in a "not guilty" vote because jurors cannot vote based on what they feel. In other words, they can't vote because they believe in their heart that he is guilty of the crime. They have to go by what the defense and prosection present and if they botch it, it's over. I have no respect for the guy but I think that the prosecution is as at fault for his acquittal as he is.

What a piece of work he is.

Did anyone watch O.J. on Dateline last night? He's completely nuts. He couldn't look Katie in the eye when talking specifically about the murders. He made some comment about foreigners "responding possitively" to him when he visits their countries, possibly because they have a dislike for Americans and they saw that he could "defeat the legal system." "Defeat the legal system"?! Um, O.J., if you're innocent, then didn't the legal system work for you? If you defeated it that means you got away with something... perhaps the two murders? Freudian Slip...? What a sociopathic moron.

I didn't see the Dateline interview, but did Katie ask The Juice how his search for the "real killers" is going?

Has his exhaustive search on the golf courses of Florida come up with any new leads?

The sad thing is, if OJ did get his own show, I'm sure millions of people will tune in. It's the way this country has turned out with their television viewing. It's almost like seeing a bad car wreck on the side of the road. People can't help but look.

Yes, can you believe that interview? I'm glad you mentioned those things. I wanted to add a few more, but my post would have been huge. I couldn't believe how he went on and on about his daughter's "emotional problems" because she's a female.

You hit the nail on the head--an innocent person would be devastated, not indifferent. Regardless of the fact that he and Nicole were on bad terms when she died, he would be upset about her death if he didn't murder her. I've believed he was guilty before this interview, but it just surprises me that he can come out and say these things. He just doesn't get how he looks. Or maybe he just doesn't care... ohno:

NBC would probably pair it up with The Apprentice and make it part of NBC's must see tv.

I have read boards that are predominantly black, and the posters LOVE OJ and feel bad for him... and the freaks actually are "I can't believe OJ still likes white woman".... sorry, but it's I CAN'T BELIEVE WHITE WOMEN WOULD STILL HAVE OJ!!!

I don't get it, ok, OJ was a great football player in the 70's, and maybe we laughed with him in the Naked Gun movies. But just because he's 1. black and 2. famous doesn't give him an excuse to kill his wife!! I don't get why white people can see past the celebrity and realize the man is a killer, whereas a lot of African-Americans (I know some who feel he's guilty, but it's usually a minority) are so hellbent he's innocent because the jury found him so, instead of remembering that DNA evidence convicted him before the trial even started. You don't see white people being as defensive over Robert Blake murdering his wife.

yup it is weird in Sept it will also be 10 years since my grandmother died of cancer. TIME HAS FLOWN!

I was 7 when the Not guilty verdict came down in 1995. I seem to vaguely remember the bronco chase when he was arrested.

I totally disagree with the idea that it's a minority of Blacks who accept the idea that OJ may be guilty of this crime. The Blacks you see and hear supporting OJ may just be the loudest voices you hear. They certainly don't speak for everyone, nor a majority, for that matter. There are those who see other issues in the Black community as being more important, more worthy of discussion than whether or not OJ Simpson is guilty or innocent. That's typical of media frenzy, something is focused on so much that for some reason it becomes necessary to have an opinion on OJ Simpson. There are alot of Blacks who either think he's guilty or simply don't care. You just don't hear us. But don't assume the voices you do hear speak for a majority of people, because they don't.

one very important thing may come of this reality show - the likelyhood of him "slipping up" and revealing important information will probably be quite high :)

I can picture it right now...

O.J. slowly walks up to a young woman in the parking lot of a grocery store. He casually puts his arm around her neck, and makes a large knife noticeable in his other hand. He then says..

"Guess what? You're gonna get in my car and we're going for a little ride. If you cooperate, you won't wake up in the ditch in the morning without your clothes."

When she screams, that's O.J.'s cue..

"Just kidding! You've been Juice'd! LOL!"

Then everybody has a good hearty laugh, including the young woman.

For example, someone is "wronged" and if they are black and the person who "wronged" them was white, suddenly the white person is a racist. It's stupid. People know they can use that excuse and so they do. Granted in some cases, racism may have played into it, but for the most part, it won't have anything to do with the incident.
