This topic may have been touched on before, but I'd like to point out that TBB was completely "episode to episode", unlike many of today's sitcoms that have recurring characters, rolling plots, references to events and people who occured in previous episodes, and so forth. It was almost as if TBB's writers scrapped the scripts from the week before, and started everything from scratch.

Here are the few recurring (secondary) characters:

- Sam (the obvious)
- Mike's boss Mr. Phillips (2 episodes; he morphed into Mr. Matthews by the end of the series)
- Rachel (2 episodes)
- Greg's friend Gordy (mentioned but never seen; I think he was mentioned more than once but it could have been just the one time).

All of the doctors, teachers, classmates, and friends made one appearance and that was it. I wonder if Schwartz intended for it to be this way, or it just worked out like that. Or maybe the wirters had short memories.

Here's some trivia...what was the only reference made by a Brady to something that occured in a previous episode. At least it's the only one I can think of.

I'll post the answer later in case nobody comes up with it.

There was a little continuity occasionally, but not much. Here's what I came up with:

In "Greg Gets Grounded", Greg goes on another date with Rachel and mentions the date they had in "The Big Bet", when Bobby tagged along.

Dr. Howard, the doctor who treated Carol and Cindy for tonsillitis in "Coming Out Party", later treated Marcia for her "first day of school blues" in "Today I Am a Freshman".

Kathy Lawrence, who Marcia disliked for beating her out for cheerleader in "My Sister, Benedict Arnold", later helped Marcia try to boost Peter's confidence in "The Personality Kid".

In "Adios Johnny Bravo", the kids again referred to their group as "The Brady Six", a name they came up with in "Dough-Re-Mi" (strangely, though, they didn't use that name for the group in "Amateur Nite".)

In "Tell it Like it Is" (the episode where Carol writes a magazine article about the Bradys), Peter reports that he got into another fight with Buddy Hinton (he first fought with Buddy in "A Fistful of Reasons").

Carol's was frequently on the phone with her friend Martha during the first season (not to be confused with her Aunt Martha who was mentioned in "Lost Locket, Found Locket").

In The Show Must Go On there's conversation about Carol singing in church (the Christmas episode).

I can't remember which episode it is, but in one Mr. Brady says something about recalling 14 girls being there for a slumber party.

The slumber party episode with the 14 girls was the episode where Marcia was supposed to have drawn an ugly picture of her teacher and she was drawing George Washington and then Mike and Carol punished her by not having it at first. She told them she was really telling the truth. Then she got to thinking that it was another girl who did it. Then Marcia called the wrong girl on the phone and told the girl she did it and at the slumber party another girl confessed of putting Marcia's name on the picture and then she called the other girl back and apologized and things got back to normal until Mike got splattered with the pail of flour.:lol:

Yes, but there was another episode where Mr. Brady referred to the Slumber Caper. Come to think of it, it may have been The Not So Practical Joker when the girls were protesting Greg's having a mouse in the house for his science experiment. That's when Mike said something like "I seem to recall the boys putting up with 14 girls at a slumber party."

The actual title of that episode was "The Impractical Joker". :rolleyes:
