Am I the only one getting a littlw worried that we may not see the second season? The producers usually announce a release 2-3 months in advance, which would put any notice we got today to be relased no earlier than September. I am afraid that we will not see this DVD set, possibly before Christmas.

You can bank on a season two set being released. The first set sold quite well. It's been out less than a year so please be patient on a S2 announcement.

There is a prior thread on this forum that links to an article discussing how the cast members are negotiating to be involved in the special features for the next box set.

GI only ran 3 seasons as you know so chances are very good that the complete series will be out within the next 18 - 24 months.

How did you know that it sold quite well? Could you tell us how much it sold and how much would be needed to consider it selling "well"? I don't want the first season to end up like the first season of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Regarding the old thread, to be honest I don't have time to got through every single one to find it. The link was to an article in which Russell Johnson was talking about the reason the cast didn't particpate in the first season DVD set was because they hadn't yet agreed on the $ end of it. He noted that there were negotiations underway to secure the cast's services for the second DVD set. Obviously if there was no second set planned, there were be no negotiations. Even if the negotiations broke down, there still would be a second set because Warners would release a bare bones version.

Billboard Magazine is a music driven trade publication but they also cover home video and publish sales charts. Shortly after the box set was released, this set "made the charts" of best selling DVDs. That is quite impressive considering the incredible amount of competition there is in the market. Additional sales strength is demonstrated by the comparitively high sales rankings this set got on various e-tailers as it was being released. Finally, Warners pulled out all the stops for this release including flying the surviving cast to a "DVD release party" for promotional purposes. Studios don't go through all of that expense for questionable releases or ones that they don't intend to follow through on.

I hear you about "Mary Tyler Moore". There is one big difference. "MTM" was released by Fox Home Entertainment whose executives have questionable business sense. On the other hand, GI comes from the Gold Standard of studios, Warner Brothers. In a recent article in USA Today, Warners indicated that no less than 60 TV shows are currently in development for DVD release over the next few years.


Again, this set didn't get released until early February. It's only June. Season 2 may not come out until early 2005.

I agree. We all have to be patient to see the colored eps. of Gilligan's Island. What else can we do? There are some things that are worth the wait. So it may be 2005 before it happens, but it's OK. Personally, I don't mind waiting. What's Happening!! Season 2 has already been announced on TVShowsonDVD.com recently which is a good sign, so it may not be long for Gilligan's Island Season 2 either.

I really would not call it information about the second season. All it is is an article interview with Russell Johnson (Professor), and he talks about how he did not participate in the extras for season one because of his lack of payment. He goes on to say that he will participate in the extras for season two, if producers decide to pay. This article does not give any information about the scond season; it is just a discussion of the wrongs of the first season set.

To quote Russell Johnson: ``I didn't do anything on this first one. So they're in the process of negotiating now if it's possible to do something on the second one,'' Johnson says. If they pay, he says, he will.

That's a pretty clear indication that negotiations are going on for cast participation for the second set. If there was no second set planned, there would be no negotiations.

Of course, having to pay the cast for participation will drive the price up. The first set didn't have much in the way of extras, but it also was dirt cheap (I bought mine for under $30 online).

Does this mean that Sherwood Schwartz was not paid for his commentary for the pilot episode?

I, personally, would rather pay $50 for a set like The Dick Van Dyke Show sets, than to have a DVD set like the first season with little or no extras, and for a dirt-cheap price.

OK. It's been a couple of weeks now. Does anyone have any new info on season 2. Even rumours would be better than nothing. I'm getting desparate. : )
