They pick the themes?

im not sure, but i know on some of them, they do it based on the celebrities. Like Gloria Estefan was available when there were 6 people, so she was the guest judge/theme on Top 6 night. Along with Elton John, he got to help the top 9, so that was the theme.

i think every year they put some of the basic themes, like motown and disco.

the top 3 theme for every year is basically the same thing, its just that this year one of the songs were chosen by Clive Davis.

I hope that they throw Motown out next year. The songs are getting ooooooold. There are tons of Motown songs, but they all just keep singing the same ones. I think it would be cool if next year all songs previously performed on AI were banned.
