Home Improvement - Get MORE POWER on DVD this November!

Nobody seems to know Disney/Buena Vista better than our friends at UltimateDisney.com: they usually get the heads-up on in0the-works DisneyDVD releases faster than anyone else on a regular basis. While they tend to concentrate on Disney's general releases, every once in a while they have great info for us about Buena Vista's TV-on-DVD releases.

This morning they have broken the news with their exclusive story (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/2004tv2.html) about four major TV-on-DVD box sets coming out late this November. The top half of that story is devoted to Tim Taylor and his family and friends, and their long-awaited digital disc debut:

"Home Improvement" was a hit with viewers from its first season, when it became the most-watched of all new series. This half-hour sitcom's debut season is scheduled to come to DVD on November 30. Originally aired between September 1991 and May 1992, these 24 episodes introduced audiences to the Taylor family, a middle-class, middle-American family.

Tim Taylor, the family's patriarch, has nominal fame as the host of "Tool Time," a local cable program where he can be seen working on home repair projects that frequently result in disaster. When he goes home, Tim is father to three boys: Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas), and Mark (Taran Noah Smith). At the center of the show is Tim's marriage to Jill (Patricia Richardson). Tim's efforts to understand and please Jill often lead to confusion. Helping him unravel life's riddles are his wise but mysterious neighbor Wilson (Earl Hindman) and Al Borland, his flannel-wearing "Tool Time" assistant.

Tim Allen is the star of the show, which is adapted from his stand-up comedy. "Home Improvement" became an unprecedented success for Touchstone Television and launched film careers for Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Viewers took to "Home Improvement" as the family sitcom for the 1990s, making it a ratings phenomenon and the top draw of the ABC network during its 8-season run.

Season One of "Home Improvement" contained a number of memorable episodes, as Tim takes on a troublesome chain letter, the neighborhood Christmas lighting contest, a snake, and a trivia challenge with Bob Vila. The Taylors' adventures continue with a night at the bowling alley, a state-of-the-art stereo system, and an unforgettable Valentine's Day camping trip.

Holy moly, this is sure to please a LOT of our readers, not to mention my wife. Buena Vista hasn't released this information through official sources yet, but stay tuned, because we're working to bring you the studio announcement on this and the other titles mentioned in UltimateDisney's terrific story. Our thanks to them, and to reader Paul Hillsdon for letting us know about it.

Golden Girls, The - Golden opportunity for DVDs late this year!

TUltimateDisney.com is a fan website that is known for their good contacts at Disney/Buena Vista, bringing solid information to the public about the studio's future DVD plans, among other things.

This morning they have broken the story with their exclusive news (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/2004tv2.html) about BV's holiday TV-on-DVD plans, which include (finally!) some word about The Golden Girls:

...making its DVD debut on November 30 is "The Golden Girls", a popular comedy about four older women living together in Miami. This half-hour sitcom connected with many viewers in its seven-season run. The First Season (1985-86) contained 24 episodes.

Dorothy (Bea Arthur) looks for love, and finds her mother Sophia (Estelle Getty) moving in with her. Sharing the house are the promiscuous Blanche (Rue McClanahan) and the principled Rose (Betty White). In the first season, the ladies get a wide array of visitors, including Blanche's sister, niece, and grandson, plus Dorothy's loathed ex-husband. The set will include some of the show's most memorable episodes such Sophia's heart attack, Rose's lifeless bedfellow, and the girls' full-on security response to a break-in.

The story is just breaking today, and please be aware that we haven't confirmed this with the studio itself yet. But UltimateDisney has proven highly reliable in the past, and we really don't doubt their word on this at all. Stay tuned, and we'll bring you more details as they become available. Our thanks to Paul Hillsdon for the tip!

Moonlighting - Just in time for the holidays!

Not too long ago we passed along word (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=1410) straight from Bruce Willis himself that Moonlighting was returning to DVD, this time in box sets.

Property-owner Buena Vista is releasing it themselves this time, reportedly in season sets. A website that is in-the-the-know about BV's DVD plans, UltimateDisney.com, has this to say today in their new story about several upcoming releases (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/2004tv2.html):

The popular hour-long series "Moonlighting" also comes to DVD in a boxset this November. Left with a run-down detective agency and no other options, ex-model Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd) becomes boss. The agency's only detective David Addison (Bruce Willis) is a polar opposite to her. But they might just be the perfect couple.

The other three releases cited in that story are all scheduled for November 30th, so it's probably safe to assume that this is the date for Moonlighting as well. Stay tuned, and we'll have more for you just as soon as we can get it. Our thanks to Paul Hillsdon for making us aware of this.

There's also news about the 2nd season of Boy Meets World, sure to please many of you fans here.

From http://www.ultimatedisney.com/2004tv2.html

The Complete Second Season of "Boy Meets World" is slated for release this same day, November 30. In the sitcom's sophomore year, Cory (Ben Savage) begins seventh grade amidst some new faces (bully Harley Keiner and his lackeys). Fortunately, Cory's got his friends Shawn (Rider Strong) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) to help him survive school. Though one familiar face is a surprise: his 6th grade teacher Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) has just become acting principal. Season 2 contained 23 episodes.

Miami Vice is coming too....

I wonder, did they clear the music rights, or will it be ala Roswell (except for the theme song and a few "key" songs throughout the shows run) where the songs are replaced with generic music? Since Miami Vice was a very pop music-driven series.

I am sorta interested in Moonlighting, any idea how they will be packaged? All their seasons were rather short

I love how DVD companies insist on releasing shows that are shown ad nauseum in syndication before shows that aren't.

Home Improvement could have waited.
