I was introduced to cable in 1988 at the age of 12. It was a big thing for me to get espn and tbs. I was also a big USA watcher in the late 80's. Also pay-per-view was very exciting for me at the time

I was introduced to it in 92, I remember MTV, Nickeloden and Atlanta Braves games...

And that old dennis leary music video...weird.

I had it as far back as I can remember (early 80's), I do know we had it by 83-84 because I remember my sister watching MTV

When I was in Puerto Rico since I was a kid where they introduced to cable was 1982.:)

The first thing I ever saw on cable (at my own house) was the Muppets singing "Kokomo" on Nickelodeon.

Ill never forget that.

We 1st got it 1985 I think. After my parents were divorced we went many years without it though.

About 1989. I was only a few years old but I can remember the bunny ears going away and the cable box going in LOL. I have great long-term memory but my short-term memory isn't very good. Ask me what I did on May 23rd 1990 and I'll tell you but I can't tell you what I ate for dinner last night :lol:.

I really don't remember. Probably sometime in the early 80's.

We had cable in the 1970's but it was wasn't like you have now. We had about 12 channels and the cable channels we got were from far off places in NC like Raleigh and Durham. Our first real cable channels were TBS and HBO. I believe we got them in 1978.

I've had it since I was born (1985). I can't imagine my life without it.

My family first got cable in 1981 after we moved to Taylor, MI
(Detroit Area). The first show on a cable network I remember
seeing was Fraggle Rock on HBO sometime in 1983. After we
moved to Oceana, West Virginia in late 1984 I began watching
Welcome To Pooh Corner and DTV on Disney Channel, The Andy
Griffith Show, Sanford & Son and Atlanta Braves Baseball on
WTBS and G.I. Joe and Transformers on WGN, which then could
be picked up(the Chicago signal) on cable, before it separated
into Chicago area and National cable/satellite versions.

My family has had cable even before I was born in 1985. So when I first started watching TV (the late 80s, probably at least 1988), that's the year when I was first introduced to cable television.

1991, and I was glued to MTV. Saw REM's "Shiny Happy People" and C&C Music Factory's "Things That Make You Go Hmmm" videos for the first time, as well as LL Cool J unplugged. Indeed, I was glued to MTV.

1981 The first station classified as cable that I received was TBS.
Good old Teddy Turner. Prior to cable we only had one tv set. when cable came we had two and now we have 6 and only two peopl living here in the house now. Ma and Pa passed away. I remember the days when you had to hop up to change the channel. Wasn't too bad only had 1/2 dozen channels that came in well.

Must've been 1980, 1981. There weren't many channels at all, but it was great.

I've had cable as long as I can remember. I was raised on Nickelodeon (when Nick and Nick Jr. were really good, not a nicktoon dump)

I also think we've had cable for as long as I can remember. I remember watching coverage of Hurricane Andrew in 1992 on The Weather Channel.

Um...lemme see. We got our first VCR in 87 and we had cable then. I'm just gonna guess and say 1985 or 86.

My first exposue to cable tv was in 1975 or 1976. We only had 2-13 at the time, with TBS and WGN being the two biggest channels.

I remember liking MTV, HBO, The Disney Channel, KSTW (a then-independent Seattle station) and Nickelodeon.

That may be the year your family bought cable but i doubt if you were watching cable at the age of one.

It was the late 70's and I remember the one actual cable channel was playing American Graffitti over and over and over and over. Not many movies were showing. I remember the name of the first really big cable channel that had movies from the theatre. It was called "ON TV". It started abt 8 p.m. in the evening.

the first time I saw it was in 1983, in a motel that had free HBO in all the rooms. The first time we got it in our house was in 1988.
I remember, I used to watch NICK AT NITE all the time, late at night on Fridays and Saturdays, when they were still a good channel with shows like F Troop, My 3 Sons, The Patty Duke show, The Donna Reed show, Mister Ed, Make Room For Daddy/The Danny Thomas show....Ah, the good old days!

And THE COMEDY CHANNEL (now COMEDY NETWORK), when they first started, they used to show reruns of "The Jack Benny show", and "The Steve Allen show" (just half-hour versions that were introduced by Steve Allen) and "The Best of YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS" (a half-hour show of clips from it, introduced by Sid Ceaser).

I think my parents already had it when I was born... I certainly don't remember being "introduced" to it, so I have to have been really young if not.

I remember watching The Bill Tush Show on TBS. Does anybody remember that?

1979 i was living in tex. at the time and we got showtime i still remember what the first 3 shows i saw on cable were they were 2 movies the one and only with henry winkler the comeback a really bad horror flick with jack the love boat jones and a program called spice on ice and i also remember 2 shot films i saw that aired between the movies one was about a parriot that told everyone that the world was coming to an end that friday and another one that was so stupid that it was funny called mad dog about a dog left alone by its owner and it is so mad that it destoryes everything in the house kids toys laundry food you name it he wercked it my friends used to think it was cool that i got cable before they did

The year was 1976. I, along with my parents & older brother, were living pretty well out in my hometown of Boise, ID, and we were among the first 50 families in that whole area who were able to purchase all the cable channels we could get at the time.
WTBS (TBS Superstation), HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Discovery, A&E, and a few other significant channels were available to us back then. Channels such as CNN, Headline News and MTV didn't come until after 1980. I remember. It was fun having my own TV so that I could watch all sorts of "prohibited" films and such!!! HA-HAAHH...;) :p

1988 was very UNREAL for me when I finally got that cable channel called ESN in my room. During the year of 1987, I would always ask my mom -"how come I can't see ESN" I want to watch Sunday Night Football-lol

I was introduced to cable in 1980, when I was 6. My oldest brother had paid for cable in his name. It was awesome seeing all those channels rather than seeing 4. I use to sit in the living room in the afternoons and watch marvel superheroes. I think it came on back then what they called, "11 Alive" We had those boxes where you zip the channels from left to right. I don't know how many of you had those boxes. My brother canceled cable a few months later and we wouldn't get it again until 1986 or 1987.
