This is a followup to a previous post about the grammies. These are the nominees and winners for pop male vocal in the last decade and a half. Pop refers to the style of the music, not whether or not it was actually a popular hit. Which would you have chosen, which choices do you think were good/OK/awful? Anything missing?

1989-

How Am I Supposed to Live Without You- Michael Bolton- WINNER
You Got It- Roy Orbison
We Didn't Start the Fire- Bily Joel
Batman (soundtrack)- Prince
Right Here Waiting- Richard Marx

IMO: Roy Orbison was the best one here

1990-

Oh Pretty Woman (from A Black and White Night concert)- Roy Orbison- WINNER
Downtown train- Rod Stewart
I Don't Have the Heart- James Ingram
Storm Front (album)- Billy Joel
Georgia On My Mind- Michale Bolton
Another Day in Paradise-

IMO: I like the Rod Stewart record best. Phil Collins was OK too. Orbison seemed to win to make up for losing the year before

1991-

When A Man Loves A Woman- Michael Bolton- WINNER
Everything I Do (I Do it For You)- Bryan Adams
Crazy- Seal
Warm Your Heart (album)- Aaron Neville
Freedom 90- George Michael
Walking in Memphis- Marc Cohn

IMO: I like Aaron Neville. Bryan Adams had a very big hit that would not have been an inappropriate choice. Bolton's record is terrible to me

1992-

Tears in Heaven- Eric Clapton- WINNER
Black or White- Michael Jackson
Joshua Judge Ruth (album)- Lyle Lovett
The One- Elton John
Vs (album) Peter Gabriel

IMO: I dont like any of these records, but Clapton probably earned it

1993-

If I Ever Lose My Faith in You- Sting- WINNER
Don't TAke Away My Heaven- Aaron Neville
River of Dreams- Billy Joel
The Crying Game- Boy George
Have I told You Lately- Rod Stewart

IMO: Sting was an OK choice

1994-

Can You Feel the Love Tonight- Elton John- WINNER
Love the One You're With - Luther Vandross
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World- Prince
Prayer for the Dying- Seal
Said I Loved You But I Lied- Michael Bolton

IMO: I guess Elton earned it, that song has not aged well at all to me, Bolton's record is a rare case of him being understated

1995-

Kiss From A Rose-Seal WINNER
You Are Not Lone- Michael Jackson
Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman- Bryan Adams
When We Dance- Sting
I Believe- Elton John

IMO: I don't care for any of these. I guess Seal, though I have no idea what he's singing about

1996-

Change the World- Eric Clapton- WINNER
Let's Make A Night to Remember- Bryan Adams
Nobody Knows- Tony Rich Project
Key West Intermezzo (I saw You First)- John Mellancamp
I'm So happy i Can't Stop Crying- Sting

IMO: Clapton, Rich is pretty good too- that record gets better to me as time passes

1997-

Candle in the Wind (1997)- Elton John- WINNER
Barely Breathing- Duncan Sheik
EverytimeI Close My Eyes- Babyface
Wheerver, Whenever, Whatever- Maxwell
Fly Like An Eagle- Seal

IMO: I don't like the Elton John song. James Taylor's Little More Time With You would have been a decent entry/winner, Duncan Sheik's record is dull to me

1998-

My Father's Eyes- Eric Clapton WINNER
You Were Meant for Me- Sting
Anytime- Brian McKnight
Save Tonight -Eagle Eye Cherry
Lullaby- Shawn Mullins

IMO: Mullins made a much more interesting record than Clapton who was a habit vote by this point. Edwin McCain's I'll Be would have been a decent nominee

1999-

Brand New Day- Sting WINNER
I Need to Know- Marc Anthony
Livin La Vida Loca- Ricky Martin
Mambo No 5 - Lou Bega
Sogno- Andrea Bocelli

IMO: Sting is the best of this group, Lou Bega shouldn't have been nominated for his one-shot hit, Sogno isn't a pop record it's opera

2000-

She Walks This Earth (Soberona Rosa)- Sting WINNER
6,8,12- Brian McKnight
She Bangs- Ricky Martin
You Sang to Me- Marc Anthony
Taking You Home- Don Henley

IMO: The Sting record is obscure, think they chose it because he's a familiar name, Don Henley's record is OK but not spectacular

2001-

Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight- James Taylor WINNER
You Rock My World- Michael jackson
Still- Brian Mcknight
Fill Me In- Craig David
I Want Love- Elton John

IMO: I like Taylor as much as anyone but he didn't deserve this. Craig David should have won, not one of these records made the pop top ten, Taylor broke the 10 year British domination of the category

2002-

Your Body Is A Wonderland- John Mayer- WINNER
7 Days- Craig David
Original Sin- Elton John
Fragile- Sting
October Road- james taylor

IMO: I don't like Mayer's record but the others didn't deserve it at all, none of these made the top ten either

2003-

Cry Me A River- Justin Timberlake- WINNER
Keep Me in Your Heart- Warren Zevon
Aint No Mountain High Enough- Michael McDonald
George Harrison- forgot the record
Send your Love-Sting

IMO: Timberlake is not a significant vocalist at all I'm sorry. McDonald is the best singer even if that record may not be representative of that particular year I'd have voted for him out of this weak bunch

1989 - I suppose Roy Orbison. I'd go for Prince, but not with the Batman soundtrack, IMO, that was the first "okay, he's starting to slip" album. We Didn't Start The Fire was okay but hasn't aged well. And Richard Marx :barf: Michael Bolton's OK but How Am I was not one of his better tunes

1990 - Rod Stewart (one of his last "good" songs) is the only song I like in here.
up for losing the year before

1991 - Between either Seal or George Michael. I liked Everything I Do that summer when it was everywhere, but it has not aged very well.

1992 - Elton's The One should've won.

1993 - Boy George's Crying Game was definately my favorite in this list

1994 - Either Prince or Michael Bolton (Said I Loved You was one of his best songs)

1995 - Seal deserved it

1996 - John Mellencamp had the best song of those choices IMO

1997 - I liked Duncan Sheik best

1998 - Eagle-Eye Cherry was the best of the choices IMO

1999 - Sting deserved it's win

2000 - Sting by default (I hated Ricky and Marc)

2001 - Elton deserved to win. Actually, You Rock My World did make the top 10

2002 - John Mayer deserved his Grammy. Craig David's song also made the top 10

2003 - I thought Warren Zevon's record should've won

2000- She Bangs- Ricky Martin is the best

2001- the only one ive heard is the elton john one and it sucks

2002- 7 Days- Craig David if any

I'm still angry at the fact that Justin Timberland won a grammy over all those other talented men.

1989: He was my choice, too.

1990: Roy Orbison

1991: Either Aaron Neville or George Michael

1992: Eric Clapton, all the way.

1993: Boy George

1994: Good choice, I think.

1995: Eh.. guess I'd go with Elton John.

1996: I was happy to see Eric Clapton get it, but TRP certainly deserved it.

1997: Hmm, I dunno. Guess Maxwell.

1998: Sting

1999: Sting

2000: Again.. Sting.

2001: Craig Taylor

2002: Not a bad choice, I guess.

2003: NOT Justin Timberlake. Give me a break here.. I'd have gone with any one of them, but not Justin. No offense to him or any of his fans.
