View Full Version : Sharing Wings episodes
mickeyd 05-27-2004, 09:31 PM I've suggested this before with no takers, but I want to try again.
On www.tvtorrents.com (free registration) I have seeded episode 1 of season 1. It is out there for everyone to download. I hope to create a network of Wings fans that will share episodes online. The episodes I will seed are all DVD quality and the commercials have been edited out.
The download client is bittorrent and is free. You can find it on www.zeropaid.com. If ANYONE needs assistance please email me at dunnavtm@aol.com. I am more than willing to help us all have complete libraries of Wings episodes.
Like I said, I've tried this in the past with no takers. If you read this message and decide not to do it please let me know why either through this board or through email. I'm trying to figure out the best way for all of us to have DVD quality episodes for free and, without your feedback, I can't tell what the roadblock is.
There are no hitches here. I'm just an UBER Wings fan trying to complete his library and willing to help others do the same.
ziggy4500 05-29-2004, 12:11 PM great idea man!
sorry i missed your first post on this. i'd be more than willing to share episodes out (100K upload). but BT isnt all that safe, in terms of ISPs on cracking down on piracy. if u want to setup a DC+ hub and let everyone connect to that, i'd definately join. keep this idea rolling, i have almost all the episodes on tape, but if i could get them DVD quality, that would be awsome.
makulit 06-14-2004, 09:24 PM I think what you're doing is great! Maybe the opposite to anti-piracy people, but not for me. I am dying to see all of the Wings episodes! I can't afford to stay up late everyday, since I already feel sleepy at work with 8 hours of sleep. How much more when I start sleeping at 4am just to catch it at Nick at Nite. I might not go to work at all.
My only problem is that I went to the site and I can't find Wings. huhuhu! Was I too late? Can anyone here tell me where else I could get free downloads of Wings eps? I just want to see them before N@N decides to pull it out and since the DVDs are taking too long. Also, I only get to see 4 episodes a week.
mickeyd 06-21-2004, 10:32 PM FANTASTIC!!!
My bandwidth is currently being utilized. ;)
Let me know what episode to start with and I'll seed it. I will let you know when it is available.
makulit 06-21-2004, 10:50 PM unfortunately, i won't be any help to you right now. i won't be able to get my broadband connection until mid-August at the most. :( however, there are other people sharing episodes on Share TV (http://www.sharetv.net/index.php) if you're interested. they have all of season 1 up to season 3 and some of season 4.
mickeyd 06-22-2004, 06:13 PM Hmmm, I wasn't aware of ShareTV. After looking into it it seems OK, but it is based on emule. A couple disadvantages of this type of network,
a) emule/edonkey/gnutella/magnet/etc aren't as fast as bittorrent. When I use any of these my best download speed is approximately 15 KB/s and upload speed is roughly 25 KB/s. Sounds backwards, but it's true. When using bittorrent my average download speed is 60 KB/s and upload speed is 30 KB/s. Bittorrent doesn't queue which leads to a lot of the speed difference.
b) As a result of (a) most people post smaller files on emule type networks. It takes longer to download/upload so most people don't put large files on that network. Ultimately this means the quality of the show is less. For example, one of the Wings episodes on ShareTV is 100 MB. The episodes I (can) upload on bittorrent are anywhere from 500 MB to 1 GB. Typically, my episodes are VBR 4800-6000 720X480, some are VBR 8000-1000 720X480. I'm not saying that to brag on myself just illustrate the quality of files normally found on each type of network.
I'm going to seed Final Approach Part One (episode 171) on tvtorrents.com. It is just over 500 MB. Even though you don't have broadband you'll be surprised how fast it can pull down a file using bittorrent.
mickeyd 06-22-2004, 06:27 PM ziggy (or anyone else that can answer this question), why would the piracy cops care about people sharing Wings episodes? I'm being serious, I'm pretty sure there is a copyright, but no one is currently marketing Wings. Don't know if that matters or not. Anyone?
makulit 06-22-2004, 11:17 PM oh really?! i should probably give bittorrent a try! thanks! just one question. can i resume my download if i get disconnected?
the truth of the matter is, i still don't get the idea of putting people in jail for sharing. that's so unchristian! it's not like we're asking for money in return.
i can't answer why we should be worried of piracy cops. if there's anyone to blame for us sharing episodes, it should be paramount. they're the ones who hasn't released wings on dvds or at least vhs. also, i think it's only the RIAA that's hot on this issue of piracy.
ziggy4500 06-23-2004, 03:13 AM cant reveal source, but here are just one of the emails that people have gotten over tv shows downloaded with BT. basically the jest of it our ISPs are apprently monitering BT activity. His was Rodgers Internet if that makes a difference.
