Another season of a show being released and not the Jefffersons. Pav does it mean that previous seasons of a show didn't sell too good when it takes a long time for the following season to be released on DVD?

I assume The Jeffersons didn't sell well. I have heard no mention for another season on DVD, but hopefully something is in the works for 2005 (or even Nov or Dec 2004). I have seen the release schedule through Oct. and no Jeffersons in sight.
Brian Damage 07-09-2004, 11:48 PM Something to add to my Christmas wish list.
Pavan 07-14-2004, 06:00 PM I don't think this set will have any special features again. For some reason sets like The Jeffersons, Sanford & Son, and Good Times get no special features except for Columbia Tristar "previews" (227 is getting special features, though). Oh well, at least the episodes are on it.
Here is a sneak peek at the menu screen for disc three for season two:

vashti1999 07-26-2004, 10:06 AM That's a slight variation of the first season cover released by TimeLife. Interesting they have Rerun on the spine again and not Raj or Dwayne.
Brian Damage 07-26-2004, 10:53 AM Cool, the only difference is, Shirley has been added to the cover.

Yeah, and the two tone background pattern. It does look weird how they stuck Shirley in the back like that. It doesn't look natural.

Executive Producer of “Sanford and Son” Returns
WHAT’S HAPPENING!!
The Second Season
All 22 Bell-Bottomed, Side-Splitting Episodes of Season 2 Available on DVD October 5, 2004
Culver City, CA (July 20, 2004) – Join Rerun, Dwayne, Raj, Shirley, Dee and Mama for the hilarious second season of WHAT’S HAPPENING!!, the cult-classic urban comedy created by Eric Monte (“Good Times”) and executive produced by Bud Yorkin (“Sanford and Son”). Featuring all 22 episodes, WHAT’S HAPPENING!!: THE SECOND SEASON arrives on DVD October 5 in a three-disc set, available for $29.95 SLP from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.
Initially a summer replacement show, WHAT’S HAPPENING!! debuted on August 26, 1976, for a limited four-week run on ABC. However, the show quickly caught on with viewers and was rushed back into production for a full season starting in November 1976. The show’s fan base only continued to grow and WHAT’S HAPPENING!! became a solid top-ten hit, lasting for three successful seasons.
Based on Monte’s critically acclaimed movie, Cooley High, WHAT’S HAPPENING!! centers around Raj, Dwayne and Rerun, three best friends growing up in urban Los Angeles whose numerous get-rich-quick schemes never fail to land them in trouble. As the trio navigates through high school, they must also contend with Roger’s mother and his bratty little sister, Dee, not to mention Shirley, who serves up snacks and sass at the local hangout. Starring Fred Berry, Ernest Thomas, Haywood Nelson, Shirley Hemphill, Danielle Spencer, and Mabel King, the cast of WHAT’S HAPPENING!! instantly won over viewers with their enthusiasm, comedic timing and signature phrases like Rerun’s “Hey Hey Hey!” and Dee’s “Oooh, I’m gonna tell mamma.”
The 22 episodes of the second season find the kids dealing with a variety of mishaps, both at home and school: Rerun deciding to marry an illegal alien, discovering the truth behind a religious cult, or getting hit by a diplomat’s son in a borrowed car; Dee getting upset when Bill plans to remarry, or being mistakenly identified by the school psychologist as someone with difficulties; and, finally, Raj with his problems with a school newspaper story, a strike he convinces his co-workers to go on or falling for Dee’s first date’s sister. The classic last show of the season, “The Apartment,” has Raj and Rerun moving into their own place but with little privacy as Mama constantly comes over “to help.”
SPECIAL FEATURES:
• Digitally mastered audio and video
• Full screen presentations
• Audio: English
• Episode selections
• Bonus previews

When the Doobie Brothers get wind of the bootlegging scheme, they help the guys turn the tables on the con artist who set them up.

19. RAJ AND THE OLDER WOMAN
Raj is in love with an “older woman” (she’s 19) who thinks he’s a 21-year-old actor. When she finds out the truth, she decides to let him down easy and have a little fun at the same time.
20. DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY
Rerun’s brother-in-law is out of town, so Rerun decides to “borrow” his car, little expecting to cause an international incident.
21. SHIRLEY IS A MOTHER
With Mama away, Raj enlists Shirley to babysit for Dee. In no time, Shirley finds herself becoming one of the family, and helping out in ways she never imagined.
22. THE APARTMENT

I'm looking forward to everything but these are the episodes I remember most. Of course, DOOBIE OR NOT DOOBIE is classic. And we'll have "Bubblin' Brown Sugar" in our heads non-stop after watching GOING, GOING, GONG. I'm thinking of another episode that's not listed here, so I guess it's season 3? Rerun enters a contest at a disco and has to go up against this hot, popular dancer. All I remember is the guy and that they danced to "Get Up Get Down Get Funky Get Loose" by Teddy Pendergrass.
Brian Damage 07-27-2004, 12:27 AM I wish they had better exras, but I'll take it none the less.

Just found out it's the first episode of season 3, "Disco Dollar Disaster"

I agree- there are no extras.
This is the best season in my opinion and it sucks that they have no commentary, bloopers, or even a tribute to Fred Berry.
But I rather have the set out now then have to wait a few years for a set with commentary and extras.

LOL you guys are right no extras what so ever. But I agree with dlemond that the show itself is the most important thing. Even though I'd love to see bloopers and commentary added.

I don't know if you noticed this, but alot of the classic 70's sitcoms available on dvd don't have any extras. None of these shows have any extras on their season sets:
All in the Family
The Jeffersons
Good Times
What's Happening
Sanford and Son
Happy Days
Laverne and Shirley

He played Rerun's Brother in law IKE and was talking to Rerun like he was 10 years old-LOL
Brian Damage 07-29-2004, 10:56 AM The episode with Ike is called Give me Odds
Dwayne is in a lucky streak with the system he uses to make bets. This leads Rerun to pass along Dwayne's tips to his brother-in-law, Ike, who bets $500 on a football game. It's only after he's made the bet that everyone discovers just what kind of system Dwayne uses.
That's a great episode. Dwayne picks teams based on their helmets and team colors.
jatm27 08-08-2004, 11:06 PM Right and he refers to Rerun as the Astrodome, too funny : )
Lady T 09-10-2004, 11:31 PM Besides Nathaniel Taylor (Rollo from Sanford and Son); there are a couple of interesting Rising Stars appearing in a few episodes of What's Happening's Second Season; including Tim Reid and Irene Cara:)

Nothing to look forward to but the episodes. I guess that's fine by me, I'd rather have that than nothing at all. I assumed they'd start using slimcases since Diff'rent Strokes was packaged that way. I guess they want uniformity between the WH! sets.
