It was reported that there will be 21 Reality Tv Shows this fall when there was only a total of 11 the previous two tv seasons. This sounds good to me. It's time for Sitcoms to fade away. Reality TV is the real Entertainment. Who agrees?

I disagree. I suppose too much reality could be a good thing, it'll bring the reality backlash faster. It'll be like how ABC killed Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's popularity when they aired it 5 nights a week

Reality shows blow.

You want reality, try getting out of the house sometime.

Sitcoms will never die and I think reality shows are wearing out their welcome.

How about a reality show that DOESN'T consist on a glamorous yuppie type who has a $3.2 million mansion in sunny California? They're all about superficiality.

I'd include American Idol. That show stands for everything that is wrong with the music biz right now, focusing on looks, and having nothing to do with artistic ability. Because the winners will just wind up singing fluff that was pre-written for them anyways, as opposed to them breaking out and showing signs of being a great musician or songwriter.

well, Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance was an insult against overweight men, portraying them as disgusting slobs.

And the only thing that Average Joe proved was that supermodels (for the most part) are nothing but superficial tramps, since both seasons, they picked the good-looking guy, instead of the "average" guy we'd been rooting for. Because to them, looks ARE everything.

I hate the trashy reality shows, any dating shows, and any makeover shows.

The only reality shows I like are Survivor and The Amazing Race, simply for the competitions. Its not about the drama, its about the challenges -- they're just as much of a sporting event as a lot of things that pass off as "sports"

This is absolutely the truth! Someone who wants to write all their own material and (heaven forbid) play his/her own instruments isn't going to get on that cheesy show.

Reality TV is very ******** tv if you ask me. I would include under the category of reality all those daytime talk shows that deal with paternity tests, cheating, etc, as well as those insulting dating shows and the court shows too. Cheap exploitational tv.

The ones that have been around for awhile or are the most original are the coolest: Survivor, Big Brother, American Idol and the Apprentice. There's always a passing interest I have in sampling a new show, but I'll admit I've had enough. No more Surreal Lifes or High School Reunions or Playing It Straights or Who Wants To Marry A Midget shows. Big Brother however is a favorite of mine, the 5th edition is coming soon and I actually ordered the complete 3rd season dvd set. That was its best season so far and I'm looking forward to watching it all over again.

I'm not a big fan of reality shows. Back in March that the new GSN added a few shows like "Fake-a-Date", "Spy TV", "The Mole" reruns and "Kenny Vs. Spenny" that went GSN down the drain. The old GSN used to ran old game shows. In the later years, a few networks ABC, NBC and CBS ran reality shows which it displaces sitcoms.

21 Reality Shows? How awful!!!! I can't stand reality shows...what's next? The Washer and Dryer Hour? The Day in the Life of a Sock? Geez...reality TV is so unimaginative and creatively barren...

Reality TV isn't even really reality TV. It's all staged. There was an article today on it, and the creators of The Apprentice and Survivor admitted it.

Reality TV is ruining network television.

The ONLY reality TV shows that I will get sucked into are Big Brother 5 & The Mole (if it even airs)...

I agree, now that all the old standbys are starting to wrap up, it's becoming more visible.

a friend and I were arguing on this, he doesn't see the argument that reality shows don't have life in syndication, and doesn't see the point in arguing it. He is too stupid to realize that a reason most "classic shows" still have popularity is due to it's life in reruns. Which is a reason why 50+ year old episodes of I Love Lucy are still popular while last season's Bachelorette episodes are not.

Syndication/reruns/DVD are big business for old tv series, and they help keep an audience for a series LONG after it ends. I remember CBS once tried rerunning the original Survivor in between the end of the first installment and the beginning of the tv season (which started late due to the summer olympics) and while Survivor was constantly #1 in the ratings a month earlier, the reruns were scoring very low numbers, and CBS never attempted to show Survivor reruns again because they learned their lesson.

What is great about sitcoms and dramas and everything else is that if you weren't a fan from the very first episode, if the show is successful enough, you have the chance to eventually see the episodes you missed. If you come in late on a reality show, you're screwed.

and I watch American Idol, but I'm not an obsessive fan who votes 500 billion gazillion times and then throws a fit when someone is voted off. LOL

I mainly watch AI for the first auditions(some are hilarious) and then the end.

As long as it gets ratings it'll stay. Survivor, AI, and The Apprentice get more viewers than sitcoms could ever dream of.

reality shows are all about NOW. They do not have any lasting value. Name one reality show people will be watching in 10 years like they watch Seinfeld now. Name one reality show people will be watching in 20 years like they watch Cheers now. Name one reality show people will be watching in 30 years like they watch All In The Family now. Name one reality show people will be watching in 40 years like they watch Bewitched now. Name one reality show people will be watching in 50 years like they watch I Love Lucy now.

Reality tv bites. The sitcoms being made today aren't much better though(with three or four exceptions).

I don't know if you knew this but reality tv shows are not supposed to be reran. IT"S A ONE TIME THING and you move on. Why would i want to see season 1 of the Apprentice in 5 years?

exactly. That is why I don't see the appeal in them. If you came into a sitcom or drama late, you're more than likely going to be able to catch up on episodes you missed before. Yet if you come in late into a reality show, you're screwed.

I mean, there are some contemporary shows I think that will still be airing in syndication in 10 years... Friends, Frasier, Will And Grace, Raymond, etc... Those shows will be attracting fans many years from now. Hell, BarWars is one of the biggest Cheers fans I've ever encountered and he was FIVE when the show ended. Yet do you think these younger generations that will continue to enjoy sitcoms from the past honestly give a crap about Clay Aikan, or Omarosa, or Trista & Ryan? One of the important things about a good tv show is that it stands the test of time. I don't think Trista and Ryan will ever be quite as remembered as Lucy and Ricky, or Sam and Diane. And those shows have been off for years and still attracting new fans.
