NOTE: This is NOT a "The 10 Best Sitcoms List" this is just my 10 favorite shows. You can say if you like them, if you dont, ect.

#1-Full House My alltime favorite show. It was a family-friendly, heartwarming, overall good show. The Tanners were one of the most loving families on TV.
#2-Who's the Boss? WTB comes in second, but is very close to tieing for first with Full House. Another family-friendly show. This show makes me laugh out loud and is one of the best shows of the 80s.
#3-Charmed A very unique and mythical drama. Can be scary at times and very suspenseful. Keeps you guessing until the end, and the cliffhangers on this show are great.
#4- I Dream of Jeannie A very silly and mythical sitcom. Although was a lot like "Bewitched," it had its special qualities Bewitched didnt have. Charming and funny, this show is at the top of my list.
#5- Everybody Loves Raymond It may not be as family-friendly as Full House, Whos The Boss?, and I Dream of Jeannie are but is very funny in its own way. Charming, clever, and well-written, this is one of the best if not the best current sitcom.
#6- I Love Lucy If I were doing a list of BEST sitcoms, I Love Lucy would be #1. Not only did this show begin the sitcom, it is charming, well-written, and classic. The BEST show of the 50s.
#7- The Facts of Life If this show never aired, NBC wouldnt even excist today. This was NBC's "lifesaver." A very well-written, funny, and clever sitcom. Another great show of the 80s.
#8- 7th Heaven I consider this Full House in drama style. A touching, well-written, and heartwarming drama. The Camdens are one of the most loving families on TV.
#9- Family Ties A very heart-warming TV sitcom. A lot like Full House and 7th Heaven. Although the storyline of the show is a little bit plain, the jokes and charmingness of this show makes it one of the best shows on TV.
#10-Bewitched Very much like I Dream of Jeannie, this show was charming and clever, it seems almost impossible that you cant enjoy it. EXTREMELEY well written-, clever, and very funny, this is one of the best shows in TV history.

If I could pick 11 sitcoms, Friends would be #11, By The way.

#11-Friends A very funny and long running sitcom. A definate future classic. This show was funny and clever, and one of the best current shows.

Everybody Loves Raymond is hardly charming. Clever and well-written -- maybe. But people fighting isnt charming at all.

And about The Facts of Life (i love the show, dont get me wrong)[/i], it did nothing for NBC. It was a great show in its own right, but it didnt "save" the network. NBC was dead until TCS came.

I would have politely disagree with you there. I love Family Ties (one of my very favorite shows), but at the same time despise Full House. Full House makes me sick to watch, Family Ties doesn't. So I would have to disagree with your "A lot like Full House" comment. I am in convulsions right now. But I am glad that FT made your top 10 list.;)

What's even more upsetting is that its categorized with 7th Heaven.

Family Ties could be said to be a lot like Growing Pains, but not Full House.

Actually, Family Ties gets a class of its own -- it was the smartest sitcom based on a family (that included children).

Well I wanted to say something about 7th Heaven too, but didn't. Thanks for adding to mine. I agree that Family Ties is in a class by itself and it is not just becuase it is my favorite family comedy. It is the best written family comedy that I ever watched. Many, many family comedies (ESPECIALLY Full House) are deficient on smart writing. They dumb it down just for laughs. I can't laugh at Full House.

And yes, I do match up Family Ties and Growing Pains alot (because I like both), but even GP is guilty of bad writing sometimes. GP also has several over the top episodes that are just not that realistic. GP was basically just a carbon copy of FT for ABC.

That is a major plus for FT, the writing and jokes were smart-funny, not lame-funny.

thats why i love it.
it wasn't aimed at the kids, but it was accessible to them, which makes it in my top 10.

I would have to disagree. Growing Pains, I thought, had excellent writing. The show always came up with interesting stories to tell that included great characters and situations. Nevertheless, the show is very engaging - always attacts AND holds the viewer's attention. On the other hand, I find Family Ties to be not like that way. The stories aren't necessary quite interesting nor are the characters. The show isn't that engaging to hold anyone's attention and the theme song is just enough to turn away the viewers.
I don't see how Growing Pains is a "copy" of Family Ties. They might appear to be similiar, but in reality they're different.

And also I might add, Growing Pains has done better than Family Ties in reruns. With that said, one might conclude that Growing Pains is the much better quality show. Personally, I agree with that theory.

GP is a carbon-copy of FT.

They took the oldest son -- made him a girl
took the older daugter -- made her a boy
took the younger daughter -- made her a boy

they even took the annoying 4th child and changed its sex.

Its not a matter of opinion.... FT has better writing than GP.
This doesnt make it a better show (although IMO, it is).... but there's no opinion about writing be good or not.
And FT definately had better writing.

well, Facts Of Life and Diff'rent Strokes were never top 5 rated series, but I do think they did keep NBC alive during the lean years.

how WEREN'T they in common? the only real difference is that Jennifer was a girl and Ben was a boy. The rest was about the same. Especially the fact that they both had a baby in the third season, and then the kid rapidly aged.

You want proof Family Ties is better than Growing Pains? just look at the careers for Michael J. Fox and Kirk Cameron. Fox became as big a movie star as a tv star with Back To The Future, Doc Hollywood and The Secret Of My Success, he came back to tv with a big bang in Spin City, and won Emmys for both Family Ties and Spin City. When he came out with Parkinsons Disease... the outpouring of fan support was massive. On the other hand, outside of a few teen movies when GP was in it's prime, Kirk Cameron has only been able to be cast in preachy straight-to-video BAC movies like the Left Behind series. When he came back to tv, it was on a bad pre-Dawson, pre-Buffy, pre-Charmed WB comedy that barely lasted a season.

I much liked Family Ties better, and Michael J. Fox was (and still is) much cooler than Kirk Cameron can ever dream of being.

I agree totally.

Both shows also ran 7 seasons each.

just like Michael J. Fox met his wife on FT, Kirk Cameron met his wife on GP.

Much like Justine Bateman also had a brother who did television (Jason), Kirk had a sister on television as well (Candice)

Also, the final episode of Family Ties was treated as a much bigger deal than the final Growing Pains was.

I don't need or want the proof because there is no such thing. Growing Pains has done far much better than Family Ties in reruns. That should tell you something there.

And another thing. Why are you comparing the careers of Michael J. Fox and Kirk Cameron? That wasn't needed. They are two completely different individuals that probably have different goals and dreams. Just because one is having success at the moment, doesn't mean the other won't.

1. 8 Simple Rules--Hilarious, with always fresh and entertaining storylines

2. Hope and Faith-- Something different, once again great plots,characters, and situations. I also enjoy the slapstick

3. George Lopez-- George is one of the funniest guys and it shows in his sitcoms

4. My Wife and Kids-- Fresh and modern family sitcom

5. Less Than Perfect-- AWESOME characters!!!!

6. Married...With Children-- what can i say??

7. Bernie Mac-- Very funny, well-written, and different

well i guess theres only 7 lol

Just because a show does good in syndication, doesn't mean its a better series.

Not necessarily true, Friends isn't a huge emmy winning series, but it's done well, there are lots of shows that have won lots of awards, but yet they don't do as well in syndication. I think in some ways that can hurt the show more

Thats why I said there's many things to take into account.
But first and foremost is quality.
A sitcom has to be funny to be good.

I never said Friends was a bad show, I like it in fact, but it has been nominated and/or won many awards.

A good example would this (I think):
The Lucy Show did extremely well during its original run... always getting a spot in the top 10, however, it did not do as quite as successful in reruns. As a result, the show is hardly ever shown which is causing it to become a "forgotten" classic.

Just because you say that 80's sitcoms belongs on TV Land doesn't mean the whole world agrees with you. You're making a BIG assumption by basically saying that TV Land is better off with 80's sitcoms. By the way, all your other comments that support 80's sitcoms on TV Land , are so irritating! Why must you pick at the fact that TV Land is meant only for 50's/60's/70's shows apart at every chance you get? You say that 80's sitcoms belong on TV Land, but yet you seem to think that's ok and that your impression has come acrossed that people who love the much older seldom-seen shows can just say "adios" to TV Land. So what gives you the right to say that 80's sitcoms belong on TV Land and that shows before the 80's don't belong on Nick at Nite? What gives y0u the right to basically say 80's sitcoms are better than those before their time?

TVLand DOESNT have to say goodbye to any shows.
Just air shows less.
Have more variety.
Shows classics from the 1950s-1980s.
Its not that hard, they have 24 hours of programming a day!!
