You know as a kid, I used to like Power Rangers, and then I remember that it was a blatant rip-off of my favorite 80's show VOLTRON: Defender of the Universe. The similarities are uncanny.

1. 5 Colored Coded Teenagers

2. Each Teen had their own robot

3. When the Robots came together they Created a Powerful Robot that coudlnt' be defeated

4. Each Powerful Robot had to fight a different type of Monster ever week.

5. Each Robot finished off their opponent with a Powerful Sword.

Add more similarities on if you'd like.

you chouldn't be more wrong. if you knew anything about power rangers then you would know that it is baised off of the japan show Sentai which has been around since 1975. and that every season with execption to mmpr season 2 and 3 follow what the previous sentai season was. most of the zord footage and about half of the fight sceens and pretty much all the villans are are from the sentai shows. go to this site to find all about this www.supersentai.com. MMPR is somehting called ZyuRanger. on a side note zyuranger is the like the 15th season in sentai. also f you didn't know right now power rangers are in there 12th season. if you wish to find out more about this stuff head on over to www.rangerboard.com they should help you out.

I think it's a little closer to a live-action Japanese TV Show called the "Dyna-Team." As for Voltron, even that's closer to "Battle of the Planets,(a.k.a. Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman) more than anything else.

Hey gOoSe,
How did you find out about the show's origins? I personally happened to find out about it through episodes of "Night Flight," but I've got vague memories of seeing something like it elsewhere a few years earlier.

I practically religiously watched "Voltron" (I strictly approved the original 1984 series as opposed to the CGI version that came out in the late 1990s) when it was on the USA Network back in the early 1990s. It moved to Cartoon Network's Toonami line-up several years back but it hasn't been on the air recently.

From what I understand Voltron was created in Japan in the 80's and the Power Rangers was based on a show that started in the 70's. The japanese power ranger show is called Super Sentai.
