Which performers' looks changed the most?

Roseanne as the morphing faces in the openings in years 8 and 9 display

MacKenzie Phillips on One Day at a Time because of her substance abuse.

In both cases I don't recall anyone ever saying on the shows that the characters looked different.

Not really a sitcom, but Carol & Vicki both changed a lot by the time TCBS ended in 1978. When it started in 1967, Vicki was just a 18 year old who sported a redhead pixie cut. The same went for Carol. By the time it ended in 1978, Carol had poofy hair and Vicki had light brown hair- it was the combover thing that was popular with the ladies in the late 70's. Vicki had a different hairdo just about every year for the 11 years she was on! Plus- she became a mom twice during TCBS' run.

I would also throw in a vote for John & Joyce on Three's Company. Joyce had (long) short, straight hair when TC started in the spring of 1977, then sported a curly hairdo all throughout the 1977-78 season, then had her famous short hairdo the next few seasons, and by the time it ended, she had long, straight hair. John also had a few different hairdos over the years. As did Suzanne, but she left before TC ended.

Quite a few people on Cheers had different hairdos over the years. Shelley Long went through a few during the 5 years she was on, from 1982 to 1987. When Cheers started, Ted wore a toupee and eventually got rid of it. Rhea had really dark hair when Cheers started and by the Kirstie years, she had light brown hair.

That's all I can think of right now. Great thread, by the way!

besides Roseanne, which has been mentioned

how about Ron Howard on Happy Days? at first, he had the crew-cut and looked like a genuine 50's teen, then his hair grew longer making him look more like someone from the 70's than a geniuine 70's teen, and by the time he returned for an appearence in 1983, he had the ugly mustache that he kept for most of the 1980's as well

Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer have both aged considerably from the first episode of Friends to the last

"The Facts of Life":
-Lisa Whechel had straight, shoulder-length medium blonde hair during the first few seasons. There was a brief period in which she started sporting Farrah Fawcett-ish wings. Then she decided to poof-up her hair and shortening it.

-Mindy Cohn for the first half of the ring wore pig-tails, then for the last couple of seasons, she dyed her hair strawberry red.

-Nancy McKeon started out sporting a simple ponytail before utlimately settling on what appeared to be a poofy-mullet.

"The Brady Bunch":
-Florence Henderson started out w/ short-hair typical 1960s "Mod" hair (I heard that she wore a wig during the first few seasons) before settling on kind of a cropped mullet look.

-Virtually all of the boys started out w/ clean-cut hair before sporting decidingly shaggy hair-styles (especially Christopher Knight).

-Susan Olsen started out sporting curls (as the theme song would suggest) before settling on braided pig-tails.

-Robert Reed (much like the boys) started out w/ a clean-cut. Reed slowly started to grow his hair out leading up to his famous or infamous perm-job.

"Married With Children":
-The Bundy kids are the biggest offenders as Christina Applegate started out w/ medium-length white hair. She then grew it out down to her back and resorted to a more natural color. Applegate would eventually cut much of her hair before finally settling on a kind of shoulder-length bob.

-David Faustino first had a clean-cut hair do before eventually sporting a mullet. He then cut his hair (i.e. the Grandmaster B period) and ultimately started to sport a goatee for pretty much the rest of MWC's run.

"Happy Days":
-Marion Ross sported a bee-hive for a large portion of the run before deciding on kind of feather-like hair do w/ bangs (this was sometime after Ron Howard left).

-When Erin Moran hit puberty and started her angle w/ Scott Baio, she started to sport a tight 1970s imspired perm even though the show was still set in the 1950s & eventually, early 1960s.

-Tom Bosley for a brief period (I believe the 1981-1982 season), sported big, tinted glasses (another obvious sign that the producers & actors were getting lazy).

Any show in which a child actor starts out as a cute kid, the show runs for seven or eight years, and when the show ends, the kid is a teenager or young adult. The kids on The Brady Bunch, Growing Pains and Full House come to mind.

Loretta Switt changed hairstyle a few times, not to mention the cosmetic surgery.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer:
the first season, Sarah Michelle Gellar was full-figured and her hair was more dishwater blonde. By season 2, she WAS blonde. By the end of the series, she had lost quite a bit of weight, very skinny and the hair was blonde.

Nicholas Brendon, while 26 when the series began, passed for a 16 year old like he was playing. He was pretty gawky. By the end of the series, he had put on a good 30-40 lbs and suddenly looked his age.

Everybody Loves Raymond
Debra went from very short hair to long hair.

Charmed
Phoebe kept changing her hairstyle, Leo's look changes completley, Rose McGown died her hair from black to red and than back to black again. Holly Marie Combs had bangs in the first few years and than didnt.

Matthew Perry got really thin (due to drugs) in season 3. Although he gained some weight back, he never really looked the same. I guess age could have something to do with that though.;)

Thomas Haden Church from "Wings". He seemed chubbier in the pilot and first few episodes. By season 6, he got thinner. And then in season seven he became invisible (It's my version of a joke. Really he just left the show).

Mike and Micky of "The Monkees" both changed their looks. The show was only on for 2 seasons, but Micky started with straightened hair then got curly. Mike originally wore a hat with shorter hair. Then he got long sideburns and no longer wore the hat.

Dave Foley on "NewsRadio". Although not drastic, you can definately tell that he put on some weight throughout the five years. And now that the show's over, he's gained even more weight.

Laura Flynn Boyle on The Practice hands down the most dramactic chage/overhaul .She went from being a resonably attractive lady to Jack N's pet alien. Her lips looked like they were put together with play-do. I was never a big fan of the show but I started it watching it just so I could freak out on her #@#-up grill
Yo, when you go in for plastic surgery and you want to enhance you lips you don't say "super size it please". Dude, How to do you go in for Pastic surgery and get fat #$@ lips, But still walk out flat chested. Now because of Laura Flynn boyles Hattchet job now I'm hooked on The Swan. I'm so bad But I love that show.
Maybe they could get Miss Boyle to be a judge. Dude if that were to happen I'd become a freakin' mess cuz I'd watch it over and over and over again. Maybe they should do The Swan celebrity make over . problem is I don't have enough pair of underwear to get through a show let alone a season of that. Dude I love skinny women like Paris Hilton and I am so happy she hasn't screwsd up her looks ,but %## laura eat a cracker or something why don'tcha:lol:

Scott Baio's look changed a great deal after the first season of Charles In Charge. During the first season he had sort of a preppie look where he wore a lot of sweaters and ties. During seasons two through five he had a more layed back look.

Meredith Baxter Birney changed during the run of Family Ties. During the first season she had her hair long still looking like Nancy Lawrence Maitland, the character she played on Family. Then in the second season she cut her hair in the style of Mary Tyler Moore. Then she grew her hair out agin and cut it for the final season of the show in the Mary Tyler Moore cut again.

During the last season and a half of Coach Shelley Fabares changed her hair from the frizzy light socket look to long straight hair. IMHO she looked better with straight hair.

on the subject of Family Ties, don't forget that Michael Gross' hair was a little bit longer, and he also was clean-shaven the first season. Then by season 2, he cut it and grew a beard. And his hair greyed for the rest of the run.

I thought I was the only person who still called her Meredith Baxter Birney, lol

How about Kellie Shanygne Williams, who played Laura Winslow on Family Matters? I mostly remember her for her free-flowing hair in the first few seasons, plus the last one. In the second-to-last her hair was bunched together towards the back, as if it were wrapped in cellophane. I liked her free-flowing hair better.

Also, Staci Keanan, known for her role as Dana Foster-Lambert on Step By Step, had natural blonde hair at the beginning, but towards the end it appeared to have been soaked in peroxide, as well as cut shorter. Also in SBS Christine Lakin aka Al (short for Allison or Alyssa, I would assume) grew her hair shoulder-length.

I haven't watched Family Matters in regular rotation since the third season, but I've seen a couple in the later seasons. Didn't Laura chop off her hair ala Felicity/Alyssa Milano (on this past season of Charmed) a few years before the end?

Kellie Shanygne William's hair was horrible after she went throught that radical change in the last couple seasons.

The whole Family Ties cast went through constant changes. Justine Bateman's long hair v. short hair, Tina Yothers' big, big hair transformation, Meredith's many styles (as already stated), Michael Gross' thinning hair and beard, and Michael J. Fox looked a lot older at the end of the show's run than he did at the beginning.

You might say Laura chopped off her hair! It certainly did look like she lost a bunch of it! Thanks for the description; I didn't know how to describe her new hair.
