Anyone know any good black comedy or satirical films- they're my favourite kinds. I like Little Shop of Horrors, The Stepford Wives, The Truman Show (satire really)- just ordered Death Becomes Her as well- looking films like that.

Heathers and The King of Comedy are both great. Also, don't forget Dr. Strangelove.

Dr. Strangelove. It's the ultimate black comedy courtesy of Stanley Kubrick.

I don't believe This is Spinal Tap will ever be topped, but of the other three I think Guffman was the best. :)

Christopher Guest and co. can do no wrong, it seems. They just seem to get better and better. Thanks, I'll be sure to check it out. :) Be sure you see Serial Mom asap - damn funny.

I love his movies. A Mighty Wind was great. I wonder why Guest doesn't cast his wife, Jamie Lee Curtis, in his films. It could be that he has his ensemble of favorites, much like Martin Scorsese and other directors, and wants to keep it that way, but still....

This is Spinal Tap is easily my favorite.. never thought another could come along and be anywhere near as funny, until AMW and Best in Show. Waiting For Guffman is one I've been wanting to check out, so again, thanks for the heads up. :)

He should really consider putting her in at least one of his films! I've love to see that. There was an interview I caught a while back (maybe a Lifetime Intimate Portrait, not sure) and quite a few of their fans have wondered the same thing. Seems like they were thinking about working together, but when and if it happens, is still up in the air.

It just means it's a dark, off-beat type of comedy.

I've seen 'This is Spinal Tap' and 'Best in Show'- and they're both great. Christopher Guest isn't as popular here (A Mighty Wind just got a release in february I think- and a very small release at that).

Christopher Guest's films are all on the 'films I want to see' list. I've never seen a John Waters film- I really wanna see those too (especially now he's got a new film coming out too).

Both versions of Little Shop of Horrors are great black comedies, as well as Beetlejuice (Tim Burton sort of mastered black comedy with Beetlejuice, and with Edward Scissorhands (though there's much less comedy in that)).

I liek Dr. Strangelove, but as much as I've heard about Fargo and Heathers, I've never seen them.

Can't wait to see Death Becomes Her- looks like a good film.

I finally saw 'Death Becomes Her' and thought it was great- I'd never have thought Meryl Streep would've done comedy so well. I thought it was more entertaining second time round, and really liked the ending. Can't wait till 'The Stepford Wives' remake is released- looks like a funny satire too.

"Envy" was sort of a dark comedy at times, although the ending is kind of light and happy IMO.

I also liked "Pumpkin". I thought it was a pretty good love story but it's also a satire.

Igby Goes Down was a really good dark comedy- everyone was great in that film (especially Susan Sarandon- she diesn't play evil bitches often enough).

Dr. Strangelove. It's the ultimate black comedy courtesy of Stanley Kubrick.I agree, Brian, it's the ultimate and to think this Cold War satire was made at the height of it all.
