Hi,

I just recently began burning my shows onto DVD and wanted to know what programs you guys use to compress your VOB video files (I'm assuming the VOB files are the ones that get compressed) so that you can fit more episodes on your disc without losing any of the original quality?

Thanks,

AK

You always lose quality when you compress but TMPGEnc does a superb job. Very slow though (about twice the time of the video). They realize their product is slow, but they say processors will catch up someday and in the meantime, they don't want to compromise quality. A nice attitude if you ask me.

Still, given that today's processors are what they are, I'd rather fork over the money for another disc than spend the time, but that's a personal choice.

Normally, I can fit about three 23-minute episodes per disc for 100% quality, but even this is not completely clear. I tried DVD Shrink, which compressed the video files to 56% quality (this way I'd fit 5 eps per disc) but I couldn't notice any deterioration when playing the compressed video on my PC (I didn't want try burning them onto a disc for fear of wasting one).
