I don't think no other year in TV History was as good as 1975. Who agrees?

No doubt, it was a great year.
But I think 88-89 beats it out.
Great sitcoms of the 90s were starting out, and the kings of the 80s were still going.

Based on the shows I like now, I would say 1990 or 1991 was the best year for sitcoms.

Based on the shows I like, I think the best year(s) for sitcoms were 1964-1966, and 1976-1978.

Nope I have to disagree. Because The Jeffersons were on the decline, Shirley was no longer on L&S, Richie was no longer on Happy Days, Three's Company was coming to an end, Cheers was New, Family Ties was New, and Archie Bunkers Place was on it's way out.

that is very true, mostly was using that season as an example because a lot of the 70's classics, albeit long past their prime (Happy Days, L&S, Archie, etc...) were still on, while some of the 80's classics that came to define the decade (Cheers, Family Ties, Newhart, etc....) were on the rise, and for that one season, they co-existed.

I would have say that the best years were the 1982-1985 seasons and the 1987-1992 seasons. 1975 was good, but I don't like it the best.

For nostalgia's sake I would say this was a pretty decent season for TV. I was too young to be allowed to stay up to watch anything other than an occasional Good Times and maybe Grady or That's My Mama in 1975 but I actually remember watching quite a few of these 82-83 series and being satisfied with them in a way that I can't fathom being entertained by almost anything on now. (Maybe you had to be there). Sunday night was for the CBS sitcoms (all getting old it's true), Tuesdays were the ABC shows (also getting old) and Thurs was NBC in their first year of the must see TV thing (they called it the best night of television on television because the shows were all critical faves/emmy winners but had very poor ratings- Cheers, Fame, Buffalo Bill, Hill St Blues, Taxi)

I forget the timeslot for Different Strokes, but this was the season of the infamous bicycle man episode (the first and best of the various very special plots). I remember Laverne without Shirley, Happy Days minus Joannie Chachi and Al, Ann Romano got a granddaughter, a son-in-law and fell for his father Sam, Gloria spun off from Archie Bunker, Jack Tripper opened his bistro and Vera on Alice married a neurotic looking man.

Overall, based just on memories (there are whole years when I watched little to nothing in prime time) this season overall holds the most memories for me.

Now this I agree with completely.
My favourite year for sitcoms happened to be the 1965-66 season. What made that season special was that there were many great sitcoms that were ending their run while other future classics were just starting. I couldn't think of another season where there was not only a great amount of quality sitcoms, but also a greater quantity of them. Here's what you might find on a typical week:

That makes at least one great sitcom on for every night of the week on all 3 networks! How many years can you say that about? It's sure a far cry from the 2004-05 fall line-up that's for sure. I can honestly say that it doesn't get any better than this!

Only vague memories. I couldn't tell you any plots from either show. Good Times I remember more. I even remember seeing the first episode they showed in 1974 (a black family show was big news then). I remember when Florida walked out of the bedroom at the beginning and the audience clapped for her.

You'll notice "Good Times" is on twice. I think the second one is supposed to be "Barney Miller". I'll bet this is the first time in history that anyone has ever had those shows confused!:lol:

I think 1975 was a great year for sitcoms. One Day At A Time premired the same year that Fay, TV's first leading lady in a sitcom who was divorced, and Phyllis. Welcome Back Kotter and Norman Lear was at its peak in his sitcoms. It was unfortunate that Fay did not last. Lee Grant is a great actress.

Another sitcom that came on in 1975 was The Montefusco's. That was a funny sitcom but was not given a fair chance. The Jeffersons' came into our lives in 1975.

I actually remember Fay and The Montefuscos. I don't remember much about them but I remember The Muntefuscos did make me laugh. Another great short lived sitcom that year was When Things Were Rotten. It was about Robin Hood and was created by Mel Brooks. It only lasted a few months. I wish it was shown again.

Obviously a few of those shows were not in their best years, and some in their last. But ultimately the lineup that was out there was my favorite. I didn't even watch All in the Family or Good Times at that point. And I'd take What's Happening in that year over Grady, Maude and That's My Mama.

I will admit that What's Happening was funnier than That's My Mama but the Last season of What's Happening with Big Earl, Little Earl,Snake along with the Disapperance of the Mom was not worth watching.
