View Full Version : Never get sick of Resurrection Mary
UMfan77 05-18-2004, 04:13 PM I never get sick of watching the segment about Resurrection Mary. It was on last night and I got goosbumps, and I've seen it many, many times. I don't know what it is, maybe the music or maybe the reinactments of what the eyewitnesses saw. The part that freaks me out is when the couple was out for a drive and they see Resurrection Mary walking on the side of the road and her face was black, nothing there. That gives me the chills. Anyone else have a segment that they never get sick of watching?
justins5256 05-18-2004, 11:44 PM No offense, but the Resurrection Mary story is one that I get sick of watching. But hey, to each their own.
Some stories I don't get tired of:
- the 1968 murder of officer Ralph Probst. Very creepy.
-the strange death of Kurt Sovas (sp?) I really don't know what happened to this kid. It's just too strange. I'm getting chills now just writing this.
-the Calico disappearance. That photo of the two kids bound and gagged is nightmare inducing. I'm glad I didn't see this story when I was younger. I would have been too terrified to sleep.
-the infamous "haunted bunk beds". Still scary after all these years...

Awsi Dooger 05-19-2004, 04:04 AM That's an absolutely awesome segment and the one my sister and I talk about whenever Unsolved Mysteries is the subject.
In fact, that's the one UM site I'm eager to visit. I'd love to hail a cab in Chicago about 2 AM and have him dump me off in front of the cemetery. I'll even bring a golf club and chip a few balls off some headstones, while waiting for Mary or one of her faceless pals to scare the life out of me.

I have never seen the segment about the Calico disapperance. But the Kurt Sova segment is very creepy. What gets me is that the coroner couldn't come up with the cause of death. What is going on with that? One of Kurt's friends had seen him while he was missing, Kurt was yelling "Franko" to someone and got in a van. Very weird.

I DID see that picture when i was a kid!!! I saw it once, probably on UM, and it has haunted me ever since. I actually saw it again a few weeks ago on a website about missing children, and was saddened to see that the case hadn't been resolved. It's just as creepy and chilling as ever. The looks on their faces...i will never forget.
Tendervittles 06-28-2004, 09:09 PM That kidnapping case, was that the one where the lady went into the 7 - 11 after parking next to a white panel van, and then when she came out, the van was gone but she found the photo?
If that's the photo, I did see an update, but not on UM, it was on something else.
Originally they thought the boy might one who also turned up missing about same time as Tara, but it turned out not to be him, as searchers found remains in the mountains where that family had been camping when he turned up missing. DNA proved it was that family's son, and they theorize that he'd been trying to rock climb and slipped.
But...that now leaves that boy in the photo unidentified, and I've not heard anything on tara either.
Also, Aswi Dooger, if you ever do get to see Resurrection Mary, ask the cab driver to take you to another place that I've heard about, one of those "only the locals know about" places -- it's called Lantern Lane. I believe it's also near Chicago. Supposedly some strange stuff goes on there too.

okay
wiseguy182 05-09-2006, 03:42 AM Yeah, the part where they look back and see darkness where Resurrection Mary's head would be was creepy. Another part I thought was creepy was when those two ladies were driving and Mary darts out onto the road. As the driver slams on the brakes, Mary stares straight at them. Creepy.
Regarding the double kidnapping case, the photo showing the two kids bound and gagged was definitely one of the creepiest moments on UM. Robert Stack even had to give a sort of disclaimer before it came on. The look on the boy's face looks as if he's saying "I've been through hell, get me out of here", and I'm sure Tara Calico was thinking the same thing.
It could be the same boy that disappeared from the mountains that was found in the photo. The perpetrator(s) may have just put his remains there. I remember a part in the segment where a photo expert said she was about 80% or so certain it was the same boy.
crystaldawn 05-09-2006, 09:00 AM As far as Resurrection Mary goes in all fairness Lifetime hasn't been showing it once a week like they used to. I still change it though every time it comes on. I am going to Chicago in a week or so but I doubt I'll "look her up". After all I'm always dissing her on here so she's probably out to get me.

P.S. Take awsi with you!!
-TRANCE- 05-09-2006, 02:15 PM Resurrection Mary is a great segment. Scary and Very Creepy! It's one of those segments you must watch around Halloween time.
Dislimb 05-09-2006, 04:29 PM I have a soft spot for all of the ghost stories, Resurrection Mary being one of my personal favorites. I haven't watched UM on Lifetime in about five years so I am not sick of any particular segment.
greatgarrett2 05-11-2006, 10:22 PM Some segments I never get sick of watching:
Roger Roxas-A great storyline that I never get sick of hearing, plus it shows the Phillipines as they were in the early 1970s.
L'Enfant-Bashir(can't remember his last name) keeps receiving phone calls from a party known only as L'Enfant, meaning 'the Child'.
He can't figure out why this apparent group of people keep calling him and his associates. Always an intriguing segment to watch at night, with the lights out.
Kurt Sova-now that I've seen it. How did he meet his death?
Also, Justin Burwinkle. That whole reference to the movie 'White Sands' made me think.
Just some thoughts.
Cheers
UMLongtimefan 05-12-2006, 12:41 AM Some of the ghost stories I get sick of... not necessarily resurection Mary that one is ok, the haunted motel in new mexico is one I don't care for and I can't remember the name of it but there was a a family in florida a guy and his wife who lived with his parents and his wife gets "possesed" by the ghost... that one is just too silly...
Here is a few of the episodes that I love:
The KC Fire Department Explosion I never ever ever get sick of even though its very sad
DB Cooper- I've been fascinated with this case since I was a kid, that this guy would take the money and jump out of a plane, Jesse James my .... I'm talkin D.B. COOPER.
Elliot Ness/the Case he couldn't crack- brutal killer, Ness trying all his tricks and the irony of Stack talking about it.
The girl who vanishes off the cruise ship.
Cryptozoology episdoes... All the Bigfoot/Stinkfoot/Yeti/Jersey Devil/Mothman episodes along with the wonderfully goofy Chupucabras..
I love all the strange disapperances, bizarre murders and true crime ones... thanks to justins for bringing up the Calico case.. I haven't seen that photo in a few years and really its so disturbing to me I don't want to see it again:(
Beetlejuice69 05-13-2006, 12:13 PM You know, for all the talk about how everyone's seen this episode, "Resurrection Mary", I have let to see it.

Cori aka ChrisSCrush 06-13-2008, 12:44 AM I am so completely wild on this story I've spent a good deal of time on it. Please see my post under the Updates thread.

The void face was pretty scary, and it's a good segment as far as telling a really good ghost story - but I don't believe it for a second. There are too many types of these dropped-the-dead-girl-off-at-a-graveyard-and-then-she-disappeared stories. Snopes debunked it so that's enough for me.
TracyLynnS 02-11-2009, 03:05 PM Get ready... Mary's back!
TracyLynnS 02-11-2009, 03:58 PM 7080 flamingo terrace, justice, il 60458
This is the entrance to the cemetery on Archer Avenue in Chicago (best I can tell). Type it in to google maps or some other map with a street level view and look for Mary.
TracyLynnS 10-04-2010, 11:49 PM Guess who's baaaaaaackk?
Yep, our favorite gorgeous ghostie gal who really
seems to be putting in a lot of overtime on UM for
the past decade or so.
She's on the lifetime schedule for tomorrow afternoon.
I actually like this segment because I think it's somewhat
interesting, is quite well done with regard to the filming,
setting the mood with the time period, and that dang
scary faceless ghost! omg:
The bummer is that I just don't think it's true because
"resurrection mary" type stories are found as urban legends
all over the country. Still fun to watch, tho, as long as it's
aired less than 3 times a week. lol
cocytus 10-07-2010, 11:30 AM I lived in Summit,IL (which is about a mile from the cemetery) for almost 4 years and I have driven down Roberts Rd.,79th St and Archer Ave.(the roads bordering the cemetery) many ,many times (almost daily) I never saw anything remotely like Mary during that time period.
Also, there's a bar called Chet's (it was there as of August of 2010) that is directly across Archer from the cemetery. If you want to get an earful,go in there, order a drink and ask the bartender about Mary. You'll almost wish you hadn't.
This is a good story, but that's all it is..a story.
rhzunam 10-07-2010, 10:02 PM The faceless ghost of Resurrection Mary was one of the best ghost effect in the history of UM but I still got sick of that segment. It also doesn't help that I think it's less belieavable than many of the other ghost segments.
silverstang84 10-07-2010, 10:47 PM i personally love this episode, fake or not. Im also a huga fan of the missing persons and fraud cases.
Jbilly85 11-16-2010, 07:59 PM Also, there's a bar called Chet's (it was there as of August of 2010) that is directly across Archer from the cemetery.
Know what would be funny?
Get somebody loaded up in there, and drop them off in the middle of that cemetery.
Yeah, they'd 'see' Resurrection Mary. I can gurantee it.
Also,
It gave me the sceeves (just thinking about it) that one dude back in like the 50's dancing with her...then finding out she died five years before...holy crap!
Smokescreen 11-17-2010, 05:05 AM I'm really hard pressed to believe in ghosts but nonetheless, I really dig this segment!
It's a great ghost story and the imagery is excellent - like many have mentioned before, the "void face" and the shot of Mary running out of the cemetery
Sorta related - The old show from the nineties "Sightings" did a piece on Resurrection Mary and I'm not totally 100% certain but there was this shot of someone running over Mary/ hitting her with the car. It may have been from another show - I really don't recall at the moment
The UM Resurrection Mary story had such a profound impact on me that I named my punk band (back in '94) Resurrection Mary, lol

Well...I would recommend that you only do that to somebody that you don't like. The cops in that area (Justice,IL) are particularly....unpleasant.
They stopped a group of people I know and breathalyzed the designated. When one of the people in the car objected, she was told to shut up "she would go to jail."
Nice.
Guitar 03-31-2018, 06:03 PM I'm watching it for the first time since I was a kid. I remembered it, though, because the detail of seeing only darkness in her face was something that I noticed repeatedly with real, living people when my parents or I passed them as they/I was driving a car at night-- especially when they're wearing light clothing. It's not exactly a supernatural phenomenon.
