what shows are you kinda surprised to see cancelled this season?

Whoopi -- the ratings weren't great, but you'd figure the show was political (almost like a reverse All In The Family for the 2000's) enough to keep just for the controversy it could generate. Plus, the cast really began to gel later into the season even though at first, it was awful. Also, Whoopi has star power.

Yes Dear -- this one is a shock, it's still in the 30's or so in the ratings, yet CBS axes it. Just when Anthony Clark and Mike O'Malley were thinking "wow, our sitcom curse has been lifted", CBS pulls the plug.

The Practice -- was shocked to see it end this year when pretty much everybody agreed that this season with James Spader was superior to the previous 2 or 3, and ratings went up quite a bit, so why cancel it?

This one was also a shock for me. It was already predicted to be back on the Monday line-up next season. Though, I will admit that this season has been weaker than the previous three. Hopefully CBS will at least order a half season of it and allow it to have a series finale, like you said on the Yes, Dear board.

Huge shock to me, I never liked the show -- but I definately thought it would be back.
This is the first Ive heard of it leaving.

Well, because ABC is picking up a spinoff of The Practice starring James Spader. I guess that David E. Kelley and ABC felt there could be more stories with a new show, yet it would still have the same audience The Pratice did.

ohhhhhhhhhhh, that makes sense then if ABC is bringing the Spader character to another series. I thought ABC just decided to give it the axe, despite the fact that ratings dramatically improved this season and a lot of skeptics who had written the show off agreed that the spark was back.

I agree, I used to like Yes Dear but this season was awful. The episodes became TOO predictable. 9 out of 10 times, it was about "look at Jimmy's wacky adventures" much to Greg's dismay. Plus, both wives seemed to appear way too infrequently.

I still am shocked Mike O'Malley achieved stardom on this show, while the superior Life With Roger that he starred in, which only lasted 20 episodes, was a ratings disaster. LWR was a much funnier series IMO.

I figured CBS would just move it to another night, but it just became too cliche and predictable this season. I do hope at least CBS gives it a half-season to get a final episode. Wouldn't a great ending be Jimmy and Christine winning the lottery (ala Roseanne) while Greg loses his job... so then the situations get reversed to where Greg and his wife are mooching off Jimmy and Christine? would be a fun way to end the series

Life with Bonnie- Less than Perfect was renewed but Bonnie was cancelled. I never expected that.

Yes, Dear- This is the 1st time I've heard of it but yes, I am shocked.

I'm With her- Not TOO surprising but I would have thought that ABC would bring it back just for the hell of it.

Life With Bonnie was cancelled? I thought it was doing well.

Damn reality shows!!! I didn't watch either Life With Bonnie or I'm With Her, but I think it's safe to say the only reason ABC cancelled either series was to make room for "Who Wants To Marry My Maid" or some lame reality crap, lol

Although I never watched, I was shocked by Yes Dear because I thought CBS's Monday night lineup was really powerful.

I wasn't really surprised that Whoopi and Happy Family are gone. I kind of thought Whoop would be back, but am not surprised that it is not. Happy Family was just a rotten show.

the cancellation of It's All Relative is shocking too, tho I suppose I can see why ABC cancelled it for the "controversial subject matter" right now, but it was getting decent ratings and looked fit to take Will And Grace's place since that show is wearing thin.

It's All Relative and I'm With Her shouldnt really be a big schock to anyone, unless they're a naive diehard.

I thought both shows scored around the 20's and 30's in the ratings, which is reasonable and most networks keep a show getting those type of ratings

I didnt know they did that reasonable.
But I guess because they were shot around and treated like crap throughout the season, they wouldntve come back.

On the reverse side -- Im shocked and very happy that Less Than Perfect is coming back.
I thought ABC was loosing hope -- but it'll be back for a 3rd season this fall.

Surprisingly IM With Her did really well, even up against American Idol. And the nights that Idol weren't on, it's ratings were really good.

Pavanbadal, said that ABC wants to make room for more dramas and have less sitcoms next season :( :rolleyes:

Well, this season they had 10 sitcoms on the air. Next season they have eight, so an extra drama will fit in. I'm With Her did good from September to December, after that it was walloped by American Idol. That is one reason I'm With Her's season ended earlier than expected, though all episodes produced did air.

well, coming in second in the timeslot to one of the top 3 series on television shouldn't merit a cancel. I mean, The Apprentice also got it's butt kicked by AI, but NBC moved it to another night instead of killing it.

For 4 straight seasons, Will And Grace has come in #2 in it's timeslot behind CSI, yet NBC's never talked about killing the series over it.

It wasn't second in it's timeslot. It was third behind American Idol and Navy NCIS and it dropped considerably from 8 Simple Rules' ratings. I agree though that it should have been back and I am a fan of the series. Maybe Fridays at 9:30 would have been better.

I knew The Practice was going to end. First of all, it was planned to end this season. Second of all, when they dropped almost the whole cast, I knew it would lose a lot of viewers. My mom stopped watching the show.

^^ Actually "The Practice" didn't lose a lot of viewers and had a somewhat renaissance season but they still decided to end it

I think the only real shocker is "Yes Dear"... I know it's not a groundbreaking classic but it does well enough, maybe not to start off a night but at least to remain on the schedule

Also, I thought "Life With Bonnie" was doing a decent job at holding on to "Hope and Faith"'s audience, I doubt "Less than Perfect" will do much better

I agree. Bonnie Hunt became a big star after her movie with Steve Martin this past December. ABC is foolish to let her go.

"I'm With Her" got such good ratings in the fall - before "American Idol" destroyed it in the winter and spring - that I was hoping against hope that ABC would give it a second season and a better time slot. No such luck. They're going to regret letting Teri Polo go, too! :mad:

the only real surprize sitcom wise was "Life With Bonnie," but ABC went with fewer sitcoms than I expected. The show was doing okay, but ABC's Friday line-up fell apart by the end of the season.

"The District" was a HUGE shock, it sort of came out of nowhere. CBS WILL regret this one and will probably come in last on Saturdays from now on. Last Saturday the nets drew their worst ratings ever on a Saturday for an in-season period, but together they got only a 27 share. That means that there is a 73 share of there, they only have to program more agressively to get a piece of that pie. And not one of them is doing that right now.

"Yes Dear" was also a surprise, but CBS seems to have a really good slate of sitcoms coming up and "YD" slipped off majorly as the season progressed.

I can't believe they canceled the District and The Guardian. I usually watch TV Shows I taped during the Week on Saturday except for The District. I guess that continues next season.

I thought What I Like About You was dead at the start of its second season, but it comes back???

Nick Zano and Amanda Bynes both bring in the TRL crowd, which is what WB was trying to court

I wasn't too surprised that "Whoopi" got canned. It wasn't that special.

Of all the new sitcoms of 2003, I wish that "Happy Family" could have lasted longer.

The pilot was great!

But they really screwed that series up.

It had potential.
