Thomas Haden Church is a bit of a wooden actor, I am not saying that he cant act but after seeing my first few episodes of Ned and Stacey recently he seems sound like he is just reading straight off the page.

Am I the only one who thinks this, because he was the same on 'Wings'?

Gary Cooper won 2 oscars and some people thought he was a wooden actor.

I agree about Thomas Haden Church. But I think that he was perfect for the role of Lowell Mather. However, I didn't notice his "Wooden" acting until, like you, I watched "Ned & Stacey." Again, I like him on that show, but I can see why he's not some big celebrity.

I got thinking about it, and if I wasn't a "Wings" fan, I don't think I'd like "Ned & Stacey." Or if a different actor played Ned Dorsey.

I've always thought that Farrah Forke's acting was wooden and stiff when she played Alex Lambert, but sometimes her deadpan, monotone delivery really added to the show's comedy. I can think of two instances right off the bat:

1. One was the episode where Brian and Alex were going to have their first intimate encounter in a cabin. Everything was going wrong, and when Brian STILL wanted to make love, Alex flopped on the bed, stared up at the ceiling and said (in a bored, monotone voice) various "Oh baby..." types of lovemaking phrases.

2. After Brian and Alex moved in together, Brian was so proud of the new message that he and Alex recorded on their telephone answering machine. The message had a "pirate" theme (obviously Brian's idea), and after Brian recreated HIS "pirate voice" part of the message for the gang, he had Alex do HER part. She rolled her eyes, looked mortified by the whole thing and (again) in a bored, monotone voice she started talking like a pirate ("Aye, me 'arties, leave a message!"). Her flat "I REALLY Don't Want To Be Doing This" delivery made her "pirate bit" all the more funnier! :lol:

I liked Thomas in George of the Jungle. I think he acting style in that movie was also pretty similar to Lowell.

I know of a number of times where Lowell broke down and got serious. Like when he didn't want to move out from Joe and Brian's. I thought those were pretty decent acting moments and less "typical Lowell."
