I guess that syndicated reruns are very expensive so local channels buy fewer shows and air them many times a week. There are some shows in my local area that air 12 times a week (King of Queens, Parkers, That 70s Show, Seinfeld, Different World). Simpsons airs about 17 episodes a week. Are there any shows in local syndication that you all think are on too much?

I am so sick of "Will & Grace" and "That 70s Show" right now in syndication

The Cosby Show definately has.
N@N airs it so much that it will burnout soon.... much like I Love Lucy has on TVLand.

I love both series, but TCS will eventually suffer the same thing as ILL -- overexposure.
Too much a good thing, or even a great thing -- is a bad thing.

Home Improvement is ridiculous. TBS and WGN has the show on everyday at 6pm, but different episodes. No show should be on two networks at the same exact time.

Becker is also way overplayed for the time it ran in primetime. It airs on my local Fox station and WGN.

The Cosby Show goes without saying. Everyone knows my opinion on that.

Roseanne really isn't overplayed where I live because it only comes on N@N.

Will and Grace is way overplayed on WGN and my local UPN.

Full House also goes without saying.

Seinfeld - it airs on my CBS affiliate and my WB affiliate (they can get away with it because both stations are under the same ownership), as well as on TBS.

Friends - again, it airs on both my CBS and WB affiliates, and TBS.

That '70s Show - my Fox affiliate loves this show so much, it airs it at 6:30 and 7:30 every night.

Will And Grace - airs during the evening and late at night on my Fox affiliate

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Seinfeld even if there put a baseball game on TBS It always 12 no matter what if Seinfeld none on Tuesdays & Fridays then on Wendesday it 8 times and six in a row Local Channel same thing but it will air later

Friends & Everybody Loves Raymond
My Local Station air Friends 11 Times a Week and on TBS It airs 7 times a week
Everybody Love Raymond airs 12 Times a Week on a Local Station and on CBS Non-Sweeps Days it airs on Mondays durning Sweeps it air Mondays & Wednesdays

Friends and The Simpsons are overexposed ad nauseum here. :mad:

I can see a show that has a lot of episodes running 10-12 times a week but there are a couple of shows in my area that only have 4 seasons worth of episodes in syndication and run 10-12 times a week. It is strange when I turn on a show infrequently and see an episode that I had already seen.

Another odd thing is when two locals air the same show concurrently. This happens here with That 70s Show and it happened a couple of years back with Spin City and 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Even if I do enjoy, sometimes, these shows, they are played just way too much in syndication. I'm sure they, obviously, do very well in syndication, but... lol. Looking at my local TV Guide for the area of Florida I live in this is how many times a show airs (from 5pm-2am): It's really not that bad, to be honest with you, in my area.

Everybody Loves Raymond (3 times a day; but a year ago it was much worse I believe.)

Just Shoot Me (1 airing on two different networks, so 2 times a day)

Friends (3 times a day; 2 times on one network, 1 time on another)

Drew Carey (Way overplayed at first now it kind of vanished; 1 time a day I think)

Here, Will and Grace and That '70s Show are the most over played. 70s has 4 airings a day and Will & Grace has 4 airing a day. Seinfeld is the next most aired, with Raymond. Then King of Queens has quite a few: 4 as well.

So it's pretty even in terms of airings.

4 times a day? Wow that is what I call overexposure. I remember when it was rare for a show to air more than once a day.

I think some shows like Golden Girls on Lifetime come on like 6 times. That is an awful lot of airings. But I guess fans can pick and choose when to watch, when to skip etc.

My picks:

Cheers - it's pretty sad that this show is not only on two cable networks (six times a day) but also on a regional network (two times day). Too much of this show is NOT good.

The Cosby Show - worse than Cheers.

Seinfeld - It airs at least about five times a day if not more.

Friends - Highly overrated. Airs at least three times a day.

Roseanne - Is on two cable networks (6-8 times a day) plus one regional network (once a day). Too much Roseanne, if you ask me.

The Nanny - Lifetime plays this show to the ground. It airs like about six times a day. Definitely not the I Love Lucy of the 1990's. This show must be burned!

M*A*S*H - gets too much airplay. It's really sad to see this show air eight times a day because it's a truly depressing show to watch.

Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier, Simpsons...basically anything thay goes right into national syndication and is shown 100 times a day gets old fast. And my locals show all the typical ones. Yawn.

Well, there's no shame in admitting your favorite show airs too often. Friends and Seinfeld, for example, are two of my favorite shows, but I concede that they are shown way too much.

But I also consider the time slots shows are in. Cheers at midnight on TV Land and 1am and 4am on N@N isn't like some shows (i.e. Home Improvement) that air all afternoon in nice slots.

Well I like that if it is a good show. I didn't watch Raymond for years when it was on, but through syndication, it gave me a chance to catch up and now I really like the show both in syndication and primetime.

And I still don't think Cheers is "overplayed" nearly as bad as other shows because of previously stated reasons.

Yes, BUT you can watch Full House at breakfast time (If you're up that early), Lunch time, snack time (3:30pm), dinner time, and prime time=Overplayed.

Yeah that would be good, IF TV Land would air Cheers at midnight like they are supposed too. But they keep having all these specials and stuff on that cuts into that slot. Cheers hasn't been on TV Land in several days, and won't be until Monday. That is why I still like Cheers at 1am. TV Land is almost as unrealible as N@N is now.

But one thing is that N@N and TV Land have messed up because both channels are at almost the exact same point in the series. You can watch an episode on one network one night and then a few nights later see the exact same episode on the other network. I like that now because my favorite episodes are on, but they will be annoying when they get to some of the seasons I like less.

I agree. Cheers doesn't need to be on N@N, anymore. Its airing on TVLand and the DVDs are coming out. Wings should definately get a better time slot on N@N.

I agree Wings needs a better timeslot on N@N, I wonder how N@N will treat Who's the Boss :(

I guess Boy Meets World will be considered overplayed in July when it comes to ABC Family because it will still be airing on Disney channel as well, it will probably be on 4-5 times a day, but I will probably only watch the ABC Family showings to see the banned episodes :)

King Of Queens reruns doesn't air on any of my channels. I have to wait until it goes to TBS to see them.

I can't accept that. It just doesn't seem logical. The Andy Griffith Show has always gotten better treatment by both TV Land AND TBS than I Love Lucy has. With this said, it would make sense to say that The Andy Griffith Show is the WARN OUT ONE but the odd thing is . . . TAGS currently airs (four times a day) at 7/7:30pm and 10/10:30pm every weeknight while ILL just airs (once a day) at 10 in the morning.

I can understand why I Love Lucy is considered overplayed in syndication. The fact is, it's been in almost constant repeats since it went off the air. I think it needs a few years break and then come back. Odds are, it will get popular again. The ratings reflect that on TV Land. It's just not doing so good, for the simple fact it's been on for so long. For cable networks, it was on TBS for years, and then Nick @ Nite for 7 years and now going on 3 years for TV Land. It's a long time, and odds are, people have seen the episodes over and over and over again. I know once I see a show half a dozen times, I stop watching for a while. I LOVE I Love Lucy, btw. It's my all-time favorite next to Three's Company. I was obsessed with the show. I watched it constantly on Nick @ Nite. Now? Then when it came to TV Land, I taped pretty much every episode and now I don't bother watching it (but I'll buy the DVDs, even then, I hardly watched them). Same for Mama's Family. I've seen every 130 episode half a dozen times and I just haven't watched, honestly, in over a year. Same for Sanford and Son (and I'm buying the DVDS and I taped all the episodes). And Golden Girls. You can only see a show so many times, at least for a lot of people.

I know that I was thrilled about Mister Ed, Green Acres and Addams Family coming back because they were off for 4/5 years, and I mean OFF (Except for maybe sparse locals). Green Acres is doing very good for TV Land. Three's Company is doing fantastic. Mister Ed, sadly isn't. The same goes for Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. The ratings just weren't there for IDOJ (as much as I love it) so it airs once a day. Bewitched came on like gangbusters and did very good for TV Land, but it's never been off TV since TBS! It aired on TBS for 15 years (practically NONSTOP) and then Nick at Nite for years, and then Hallmark for 2/3 years...

I think The Cosby Show has so worn out it's welcome. I'm so puzzled by The Andy Griffith Show's popularity. I like it, but It's just not one of my favorites. That's another one that's been on nonstop since it's TBS days.

And LucyFan, THAT is what I think the gist of this thread was about. Shows being overplayed. Not the fact that the show sucks. Just the fact that it's been on so long that it's time to rest it. I know once a show goes off a network, I can't wait for it to come back, LOL, it's a good way to boost popularity.

TAGS also has more episodes (although I would never watch any without Don Knotts)

The Cosby Show, it airs on every single local station in my area from the valley I live in to the coast. does anyone else see The Cosby Show run on an ridicolous amount of channels? I can tell you why it is that so many stations air a show. . when a large amount of stations purchase these shows they air them until they lose the lease.

And Lucy has been on TV Land a really long time now and used to have more showings. It has simply just worn out its welcome for now. It is kind of like at the movie theater when the last week a movie is shown has dramatically fewer showings than opening day.

I don't think many people can argue that I Love Lucy has not been aired enough over the years...

I personally think it's good to have a show in syndication when it's still airing... it can attract even more fans that weren't watching in the earlier seasons. That was the case with Friends. As soon as the show was sold into wide syndication its ratings started getting better and better.

I suppose you're right, I wouldve never gotten into Frasier or Friends if it hadnt been for syndication.

No, you're not the only one. It's always amazed me to see just how often that show has and still is being shown on Lifetime. :eek: I like it and all, but come on!
