Okay, so yeah, I have like 3 fics I haven't posted on in awhile. I DO realize that, but I've so busy that I can't concentrate at ALL to write. I'm sorry. I've had this fic written for months, so I'm gonna post it-- it's short, so enjoy while it's here!! It was when I was sad, thinking about my upcoming graduation!!!

Disclaimer: the usual......
~~~~~~~~~~~
“MOM! DAD! I got it! I’m in!!” the brunette ran upstairs to her parents’ office.
Mom and Dad were both sitting at the desk, filing their taxes via the Internet. Candace Basso looked up. “Laura, what is it?” she questioned her eighteen year old daughter.
“I got my ACCEPTANCE letter!” Laura screamed and shoved the paper in their faces.
Nathan Basso read the first line aloud. “Laura Basso, we are proud to welcome you to... OH MY GOSH!” he exclaimed and threw the letter down, jumping up and enveloped his daughter into a hug.
CD finished reading it. “our college and basketball team. Our Tennessee Volunteers welcome your arrival this fall,” she murmured to herself and looked at her daughter.
Laura grinned backed at her. “What do you think, Mom?”
CD smiled. “I’ve never been prouder, baby,” she replied and joined in the hug.
The three of them stayed that way for a couple of seconds before Laura pulled out. “I’m glad you said that, Mom; now keep that in mind.” she paused as she handed them another letter.
“What’s this?” Nate asked as he read, and CD looked over his shoulder.
Laura sighed. “I’m not waiting until fall to go there; they want me there three days after graduation,” she explained. “For summer training and stuff.”
CD frowned after reading the letter. “That’s two weeks, Laura.”
She nodded. “I know, Mom, but it’s what I have to do for my scholarship and so I can play next year.” she paused and grinned. “You know, it’s YOUR guys’ fault that I’m going to the best basketball program in America.”
CD smiled back, a little confused. “How is it our fault?”
“If you two hadn’t made me so tall, maybe they wouldn’t want me,” the 6’2 athlete teased her parents.
Nate grinned. “Honey, even if you were 5’5, Tennessee would be stupid to not choose you.”
Laura beamed. “Thanks, Daddy,” she replied and sighed. “So, uh, what are you going to do? I mean, I have to cancel the summer job I thought I’d get to have, start organizing my stuff now, and plan on saying goodbye to all my friends 3 months earlier than expected. Are you going to take me out there, or should I just go out by myself?”
“We’re taking you!” Both of her parents replied.
Laura laughed. “Clingy, clingy, geez!” she teased them.
CD laughed and hugged her oldest child close to her again. “Oh, Laura, this is going to be weird, not having you around anymore. Ya sure you want to travel across the country for college?”
Laura nodded. “I’m positive, Mom. As much as I’ll miss you, Daddy, and the boys, I need to do this; basketball means so much to me, and I have to finish my dreams with it.”
CD nodded, completely understanding. “That’s my girl,” she commented and fumbled back on the desk.
“What are you looking for, baby?” Nate asked her.
“This,” CD announced and held up her checkbook. “If she’s leaving in two weeks, we’re gonna have to get on the ball and finish buying everything she’ll need for her dorm.”
Laura’s face brightened. “Shopping spree?!” she exclaimed.
Nate laughed. “Oh, please no!” he teased. “Sounds like a girls’ night out to me.”
CD nodded. “Yeah, you stay here with the boys; we’re gonna go spend your money,” she joked.
He shrugged. “Sounds okay to me; I don’t have to pay for my daughter’s education anymore, so splurge a little!” he laughed but paused quickly. “But not a LOT.”
Laura and CD laughed, and CD kissed him goodbye. “We’ll control ourselves,” she responded and grabbed her coat.
“We’ll be back soon, Daddy,” Laura told him and followed her mom out the door.
Nate smiled and sat back down at his desk. Although very proud of his daughter, sadness filled his body as he sat there sulking, He looked at the picture frames cluttering the desk. He grinned
broadly at the first one of his baby girl in her cap and gown, graduating preschool. The next one was a two-picture frame, containing pictures of his and CD’s twins-- Damion and Ben- in
their kindergarten pictures. Then there was a picture of him and CD, doing what they did best-- kissing.
The boys had taken that picture when they’d walked in on their parents in the study. They had told the kids that they had a bunch of paperwork to do and were not to be disturbed. Of course that heightened the enjoyment of going in there, and once the boys saw that the work was nonetheless just a makeout session, they decided to make them pay.
Nate laughed at that picture’s memories and continued to the last one. It was a family picture that was taken last year before Christmas. Nate and CD were sitting in the middle, Laura was standing behind them, and the twelve year olds were on either side of their parents.
Nate picked that one up and held it in his hands as he sulked. He was losing his daughter. In two weeks, she’d be gone. He sighed as he sat the picture back down and went downstairs to see what kind of mischief the boys were getting into.
Ben was dipping ice cream, while Damion was getting out the sprinkles and chocolate syrup.
“What are you two doing?” Nate interrogated them. “It’s a little too close to dinner to be eating that.”
Ben smirked devilishly. “You want some, too?”
“Of course!” Nate exclaimed and got out a bottle of root beer. “I want a float, though.”
“So do I then!” Damion commented as the three of them mixed their floats in big soda glasses.
Nate smiled. “You know the drill, right?”
They both nodded their heads. “Don’t tell Mom, and eat everything she makes for dinner.”
Nate smirked. “That’s my boys,” he replied as he dug into his float.
************
CD called later and said that her and Laura were grabbing a bite of dinner in the mall, so the guys were on their own. Nate decided to cook; he called Pizza Hut and ordered four pizzas for
the three of them.
The girls came back two hours later with the Blazer full to the brim. CD came in first, kissed her sons, and asked them to go grab the rest of the stuff out of the back of the vehicle. They mumbled around but finally went out to get it.
CD went into the living room where Nate was and kissed his cheek. “Hey gorgeous, we’re back,” she announced.
He looked up. “Hey sweetie, did you two have a fun time?”
CD nodded. “We had a great time, and I think we got pretty much everything she’ll need, at least for the first part of her stay. She’ll figure out something she’ll need once she gets there I’m
sure.” she yawned and joined him on the couch.
“It’s getting late; you look exhausted,” Nate commented.
CD grinned. “I am really tired,” she paused. “I guess it’s this old age I’m in,” the 53 year old replied.
Nate laughed. “Well, old-timer, you’re probably right,” he teased her.
She punched his arm. “Jerk,” she responded and smiled. “I guess that’s what I get for marrying an immature boy.”
He laughed and kissed her. “You can always take it back, ya know.”
She giggled and kissed him back. “Never, baby,” she replied. “Never.”
Laura came in with the boys right behind her. “All of my stuff is stacked in one side of the study, I told the boys my news, and I’m off to bed,” she grinned broadly and kissed both of her parents. “I love you two so much.”
CD and Nate replied the same, and then the boys said their goodnights.
Nate looked over at her and turned off the TV. He grinned devilishly, “Hmmm, it’s kind of quiet in here. What do you suggest we do?”
She giggled. “I don’t know, I’m all out of ideas,” she teased him.
“Fine, I’ll take matters into my own hands,” he replied, stood up and put her on her feet as well. He then slung her over his shoulder and started to carry her upstairs to their bedroom.
“Nate, what are you doing?” she laughed as he started slowing down half-way up. “You’re gonna break a hip if you’re not careful!”
He laughed. “I’ll be fine, and the only hips I feel like breaking,” he paused to smack her ass, “or at least rolling, are yours.”
She chuckled and let him carry the rest of the way to their bedroom. Nate threw her on the bed, and then went back to lock the door behind them.
She sat up a little and asked him seductively, “And NOW what are you expecting us to do?”
He grinned. “How about we watch more TV?”
“But I want something else,” she purred and moved her forefinger for him to come to her.
He grinned and immediately caved in. “You have me wrapped around your little finger, Miss Candace,” he commented and climbed into bed, quickly on top of her and naked against her. “Baby, I love you so much, more and more every day,” he whispered up against her earlobe as he gently nibbled on it.
She groaned in response and let him take her not once, but twice.
After they collapsed in each other’s arms, Nate’s head lied on CD’s belly as she stroked over his hair.
“Baby, it’s hard to believe we have a daughter old enough to go to college,” Nate commented sadly.
CD nodded. “I know, it seems like yesterday she was a toddler in preschool, and we were still partners at the Division under Kate’s command.”
Nate grinned. “Now we got an adult as our oldest, and my little momma is my BOSS, not my partner.”
She laughed and kissed his forehead. “I’ll always be your partner, honey.”
He smiled and pulled one of her arms down to his chest and played with her fingers. All of a sudden, he got sad again. “CD, I don’t want my baby all the way on the other side of the
country,” he pouted.
CD nodded. “I don’t either, Nate, but there’s no way in hell will I tell her to give up her dream for playing for Tennessee. It’s what she’s worked for as long as I can remember.”
“I know, me neither,” he sighed. “CD, can I ask a question?” he asked her nervously.
CD grinned. “Nate, you know you never have to ask my permission to talk to me, sweetie. Tell me.”
Nate sighed. “I want to move to Tennessee, CD,” he replied as tears sprung to his eyes. “I want the family to move to Tennessee so we can still be together. We can take the boys to all of Laura’s home games, but we’ll still give her her freedom. I can’t lose her, I just....” Nate stopped as the tears overwhelmed his voice, and he couldn’t speak any longer.
“Nate,” CD whispered and hug him close to her. “Honey, calm down; let’s think about this,” she stopped, wanting him to be completely competent for what she had to say.
After about five minutes, Nate’s tears finally ceased. “I feel like such a moron,” he muttered and scooted to his side of the bed.
CD grinned. “That’s ridiculous!” she exclaimed and started to tease him. “And why did you move away from me? Don’t think you’re getting away THAT easily.”
He smiled sadly and let her snuggle up next to him.
CD held him tightly for awhile, but then decided to tell him what she was thinking. “Honey, do you really know what you’re saying? I mean, we’d have to find a house, new jobs, a new
school for the boys......”
“but we’d have our daughter within driving distance,” Nate interrupted.
CD sighed. “What if she doesn’t want her parents there? What if she wants to grow up and leave us behind?”
“What if she doesn’t?” Nate whined.
CD sighed. “How about we ask her before we jump to any extremes?”
Nate nodded and stood up. He threw on a pair of pants. “Put some clothes on.”
“Where are you going?” CD asked him.
“We’re talking to Laura right now,” he commented, threw some clothes at her, and left her to get dressed while he escaped to Laura’s bedroom.
Laura groaned and shooed the hand away from her face. “Five more minutes, Mom, please,” she whined and turned back over.
“Baby, wake up,” Nate shook her.
Laura realized that it was still the middle of the night and woke up immediately. “What’s wrong, Dad? Is Mom okay?” she asked him nervously.
CD walked into the room. “Mom’s tired, but otherwise she’s great,” she muttered and sat down on Laura’s bed.
“We need to talk to you, sweetie,” Nate replied and explained his proposition.
Laura listened intently, thought for a second, but quickly told them her decision before rolling back over and going back to sleep.
Nate and CD walked back to their room. “Now what?” Nate asked.
CD grinned before kissing him goodnight. “Tell the boys tomorrow before school, tell everyone at the Division in a day or so, and get in contact with Kate, tomorrow, if possible.”
Nate nodded. “Thank you, CD. Thank you for backing me on this.”
“Mmm,” she muttered before falling asleep.
well, here's the last part-- I figured it would be good to post it now b/c SOMEONE graduates tomorrow!!! ;);)
thanks for reading, and i g2g to my tennis match now!! :D
~~~~~~~
The next morning CD and Nate woke the boys up earlier than usual to tell them about the big move. They were very upset; Damion shouted through tears that he wasn’t leaving his friends,
and Ben said he’d live with Grandma before he’d move to Tennessee. Nate and CD tried to explain to them why, but they wouldn’t hear of it; both of them ended up storming out for
school before coming to a conclusion.

“That went great,” CD muttered as she poured herself another cup of coffee.

“We’ll convince them, CD, don’t worry,” Nate replied.

CD sighed and went back to getting ready for work.

******
They arrived at the Division a half hour later, and CD was quickly bombarded.
“Cap, do we have clearance on this case?” “CD, Nate and I still on the Harris case, right?” “Captain, can I have your signature?”

CD sighed. “Yes, yes, and sure,” she muttered as she signed the paper in front of her and walked to her office, shutting the door behind her. She walked to her desk and sat down,
putting her head into her hands.

“CD? Sweetie?” Nate poked his head in.

“Nate, please, I need a break,” she told him.

“I’m, uh, sorry, I’ll leave ya alone,” he replied and left on a case with Jin.

CD sighed heavily and picked up the phone. “What are you doing for lunch?” was the first words out of her mouth.

The woman laughed. “And hello to you, too!”

CD grinned. “Sorry, I’m just under a little stress,” she admitted.

“The job’ll do that to ya.”

“So will life, Kate,” CD muttered. “Anyway, what are you doing for lunch?”

“Nothing. You want me to bring ya something there, and we can talk?”

“No, please no!” CD exclaimed. “I want outta here for at least an hour; give me a time and
place, I’ll be there.”

Kate laughed, told her a place, and they hung up.

***********
Graduation morning rolled around, and Laura nervously fussed with her hat while getting ready in her room.

CD knocked on the door briefly before asking, “Laura, can I come in?”

“Door’s open,” she responded as she went back to her hair. “Mom, my hair looks like ****,” she muttered as she tried to mold the ends of it to stay flipped out.

“Laura, language please,” CD commented and sat down beside her. “Give me the curling iron.”

Laura handed it over and let her mom fix her gorgeous straight hair. “Thanks.”

CD nodded. “Ya nervous?”

Laura beamed. “Nah, it’s nothing, right?”

CD grinned. “I am, too, and I don’t even have to go up there for a speech!”

Laura rolled her eyes. “No big deal, I just have to read the 2 prepared passages right in front of me; it’s not like I had to come up with my own speech!” she replied. As class president,
Laura was summoned to make a prearranged goodbye to her class.

“You’re gonna do great baby,” CD replied and looked at her watch. “Wow, we’re gonna have to get going!”

Laura nodded, finished completely and walked downstairs so her mom could take her to her school for the last time.

**********
CD, Nate, the boys, and Kate sat in their floor seats during the ceremony, while the rest of the family and friends were in the bleachers. CD held both Nate and Kate’s hands and cried
gently when “Laura Nicole Basso” was called for her diploma. Laura graciously read her speech, after the whole ceremony was over, the whole gang went over to the Basso’s for a celebration.

*********************
Two days later, Nate and CD stood in the office part of the Division, saying good-byes to their friends. They were leaving bright and early the next morning, driving to Tennessee, dropping
off Laura and her things, and staying in town for a week to look at different prospective houses. They were then coming back to clean out their lockers, pack, and then back to Tennessee
for good. CD sought another captain’s job, and with her credentials and acclamations, she immediately found a good location for herself. They also hired Nate, and he was partnered up with a nice man named Bob Richardson.

CD hugged Jinny first. “Jin, it’s been so great working with you these past years. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I’m going to miss you.”

Jinny agreed. “CD, thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me. You better get your ass back here soon; I’m gonna miss you like crazy.”

They hugged everyone else, and Kate appeared through the doors. “A goodbye party, and no one invited me to come?” she teased them.

“Kate, you’re always welcome in MY Division,” CD grinned.

Kate walked to her and wrapped her into a big hug. “Keep that sense of humor, Miss DeLorenzo.”

CD grinned and pulled away a little. “Hey! You told me that when I was a rookie! I can’t believe you remember!”

Kate laughed. “I’m not senile, Captain!”

Everyone laughed, and CD gave Kate away to Nate.

“You take care of my favorite family,” Kate responded.

Nate nodded. “I will, Kate, and if I don’t, I’ve already promised the boys that they can come and live with you!”

“That would be great!” she remarked.

Nate laughed. “Give that a day, and you’ll be preaching another tune.”

Kate smiled as she looked at CD, who was preparing to talk to everyone.

“Everyone here, I’d just like to say that it’s been a really big treat working here for practically my entire life. I grew as a cop and person under the command of my best friend,” she paused
to grin at Kate, “I met some amazing people,” she looked at Raina and Mag, “and I’ve met people I will never forget, even if I wanted to,” she replied to Kate again, as well as to Jin. “I’ve also met the love of my life here, almost 22 years ago, and I have to say, I’ve never been happier in my life,” CD’s voice squeaked a little while trying to hold back the tears.

ALL of you mean the world to me, and I hope I can find 4 people there that can come CLOSE to the 4 best friends I’m leaving behind,” she paused to wipe her eyes. “I know Nate and I are making the best decision for US, and I know it’ll feel good eventually, so please just pray for us and hope everything will be alright.”

Nate put his arm around his wife and added. “Change is a good thing. We’ve been here forever, and we’re accustomed to it, but now it’s time to move on. We’ll be back, have no fear, but for now, this is goodbye. I love you all, and we promise to keep in touch.”

“I love you guys, too,” CD added in as everyone else said their “I love yous.”

She sighed, interlaced hands with her husband, and walked toward the door. “This isn’t goodbye,” she promised. “This is only an ‘until next time,’” she replied, as her and Nate walked to their car to prepare for a new life of scurry, sadness, fortune, and wonderfulness.

THE END!
