View Full Version : Todays Music Sux!
MonarC 05-16-2004, 08:05 PM With the exception of a few good songs once and a while.
Todays music really blows. There is no such things as REAL Rock n Roll or REAL hip-hop. It's all mutated into mainstream crapola.
Brian 05-16-2004, 08:10 PM I don't like today's music, either. It all left after 1998 or 1999. I think 1996-1999 was the last best years for "today's music." Who remembers Savage Garden, The Verve Pipe, Paula Cole, Meredith Brooks, The Wallflowers, Smash Mouth, Chumbawumba, Damon Sheik, and all those great artists of that time?
Dean Winchester 05-16-2004, 08:27 PM I'd say 50-50. Mainstream music isn't as good on average as it was from the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's. There's some decent stuff out now, but it's not as good as what was on the chart then
I agree with the sucking of today's music.
;)

I pretty much agree with this. I think that there is some good music out there today, it's just a matter of finding it. Alot of what I've liked in recent years have been no where near making an impact on the charts, but it's still good, quality music. I'm more likely to embrace stuff that's not "mainstream-popular" these days.
Hollow 05-16-2004, 10:21 PM **** mainstream.
Tuesday Weld 05-16-2004, 10:25 PM Today's music DOES suck!!!
diezman 05-16-2004, 10:36 PM I don't know if it's fair to say that all of today's music is bad. I've stated it here before- there is a great deal of great music out there. You just have to look for it. Sadly, the majority of what is good is not played on the radio
What is played on mainstream radio does not represent today's state of music IMO.
I rarely listen to anything current.
Kazza 05-16-2004, 11:27 PM I don't like any current music. I like the 80's and early 90's music much better
Raven-Symone 05-17-2004, 01:14 AM I said 50/50 some music from today is good and some is bad.
MonarC 05-17-2004, 11:04 AM Im gonna have to agree with you on that. There is some good music out there but it's rare.
Penny Lane 05-17-2004, 12:21 PM All that Pop stuff sounds alike to me! But then again, that's what my Mom thought of my music.
MonarC 05-17-2004, 02:46 PM yeah that's true.
Mr. Stefani 05-17-2004, 11:00 PM NOW! Thats What I Call Music! Volume 19!
AllIWantIsYourClutch 05-18-2004, 04:56 PM Most of the music on the radio does suck. But, believe it or not, there's music that's not on the radio.
MonarC 05-19-2004, 10:58 AM That's true. Im sure there is really good music out there it's just not on the radio.
Sterling Holobyte 05-19-2004, 11:28 AM There is something plastic about today's music. All style and little substance.:thumbsdow
MonarC 05-19-2004, 04:23 PM Plastic is a good word.:p

I actually do agree with you there. People talk about how bad music was in 1990-1991 right before the advent of grunge and gangsta rap... I'd take what was popular in 1991 over the crap out now any day of the week
musicradio77 05-19-2004, 09:50 PM I sometimes like today's music along with the classic stuff. I love the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's along with the first decade of the 40's Big Band and swing years and the 50's music.:)
Tom Pety did a pretty good job summing up the current state of the recording industry:
Joe
(Petty)
My name’s Joe
I’m the CEO
Yeah, I'm the man
Makes the big wheels roll
I ‘m the hand on
The green light switch
You get to be famous
I get to be rich
Go get me a kid
With a good-looking face
Bring me a kid
Can remember his place
Some hungry poet
Son of a bitch
He gets to be famous
I get to be rich
Or bring me a girl
They’re always the best
You put ‘em on stage
And you have ‘em undress
Some angel whore
Who can learn a guitar lick
Hey, that’s what I call music
Well they’ll come lookin’ for money
When the public gets bored
But we’ll fight ‘em with lawyers
They could never afford
Yeah, I’ll make her look
Like a spoiled little bitch
She gets to be famous
I get to be rich
Or bring me a girl
They’re always the best
You put ‘em onstage
And you have ‘em undress
Some angel whore
Could learn a guitar lick
Hey, now that’s what I call
Music
So burnt-out Johnny
Thinks our books are shifty
What good’s that alchi to me
When he’s fifty
We could move catalog
If he’d only die quicker
Send my regards to the gig
And a case of good liquor
He gets to be famous
I get to be rich
He gets to be famous
I get to be rich
My name’s Joe, I’m the CEO
I’m the man makes
The big wheels roll

I agree.
Steve M. 05-24-2004, 10:14 PM The last good music we had was the grunge revolt, but as Spin magazine recently noted, the cultural ethos sired by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden has been purged in favor of a creepier version of the George Bush / Michael Jackson era of the late eighties and early nineties. AUGGGHHHHHHHHH!!

basically anything you hear on the radio nowadays is basically following the same, tired formulas over and over and over again, and it all sounds like the same boring cr@p :cuss:
David 05-25-2004, 12:31 PM i cant stand all the rap
Salute_yr_shorts 05-25-2004, 02:19 PM yeah and i hate avril lavigne
SBTB Geek 05-25-2004, 03:58 PM Music is not as bad as it was in 1999/2000. Wasn't that also the last year Mariah had a hit?... :\

well, I think ROCK is better now than it was in 99/00, but for the most part, mainstream pop and r&b isn't as good now as it was 4-5 years ago. Back then, you didn't have to be hip hop in order to score a #1 pop single
Salute_yr_shorts 05-25-2004, 05:09 PM anyone remember Limp Biskit and Korn:barf:
