View Full Version : Helter Skelter
julian bozo 05-14-2004, 11:24 PM Is anybody going to watch that new Helter Skelter movie this Suday on CBS 5/16/04?
I saw the 70's version. I wonder how this one will compare.
It will either be better or worse.
Jeremy Davies is playing Charles Manson this time.
Steve Railsback played Charles Manson in the 70's version.
dandelion wine 05-14-2004, 11:28 PM Steve Railsback gave quite the memorable performance (along with the entire cast which made up 'the family') in the original Helter Skelter. I've seen it a number of times, and it creeps me out.
I'll be tuning in Sunday night to see this latest one.
Janice 05-15-2004, 01:59 AM I'll watch it. I know the Manson story inside out....with the murders of Sharon Tate and her friends as well as the LaBiancos. I was 11 when it happened, and I've been hooked on it my entire life, along with other famous crime stories.
Sharon Tate was gorgeous. :(

I've always been hooked on crime stories, as well. A few years back I bought the book written by Vincent Bugliosi.. what happened to Sharon Tate, her friends and the LaBiancos is tragic.

I was 19 and recently married when this happened. I remember feeling very afraid and wondering, "What's the world coming to?"

Janice,
I was not born until 1980. I don't remember a thing about it. I never heard about Charles Manson until I was in 8th grade.
I was horrified. We had to watch Helter Skelter the movie
my senior year of high school in Democracy?Economics.
I had a few questions
1What does Helter Skelter mean?
2 Exactly how many people did Charles and those 3 girls kill?
3 Why Sharon Tate? What was so special about killing her?

Helter Skelter means chaotic and frenzied. It's in a Beatle's song, and Charles Manson, the nut that he was/is, thought they were talking to him in their song.
Manson didn't kill anyone himself personally on those August nights in 1969, but he ordered the killings. He had a mental cultish hold on his followers. Tex Watkins and the girls carried out the murders of Sharon Tate and her three friends, and a friend of the groundskeeper who was leaving as the murderers were entering.
Sharon Tate and the other victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's a long held belief that the intended victim was Doris Day's son, Terry Melcher. He had produced music for the Beatle's Apple Record label, and had turned down wannabe musician Manson, who thought he had talent.
Melcher had rented Sharon Tate's home months before she moved in, so the popular theory is that Manson sent them on a revenge kill against Melcher.
The following evening, they killed Leno and Rosemary LaBianco for no other reason than to throw the cops off.
All seven of these victims were slaughtered like animals. Sharon was 8 1/2 months pregnant. There are photos on the internet.
If you really want to learn about this case, the best source is Vincent Bugliosi's book, Helter Skelter. He prosecuted the case. It's a very sad story.
musicradio77 05-16-2004, 12:12 AM "Helter Skelter" might be a good movie based on a Beatles "White Album" standard. And it was based on a true story of Charles Manson. I've heard the U2 version rather than a Beatles song.
Jrnygrl 05-17-2004, 07:01 PM This story has always distrubed me. One of my biggest questions has always been, how can a person like Manson have such control over those people???
I mean, these people came from good homes, and were part of the society that they hated. How can such a loser like Manson manipulate these people into doing such a thing?? And what is even more sick is how he continues to get fan mail from people who find him to be a hero?

I read about that in Doris Day's autobiography. Terry talks about how the police came to him and said "We think they were after you" I've always felt bad for Melcher - he did absolutely nothing wrong, just said no to the wrong guy. He rented his house to Roman Polanski and... well, we all know the rest. I feel really sorry for Polanski too. Poor man - he went through hell.
*Warning for people looking for pics of Sharon Tate* don't do a google search - you will find some pretty disturbing pics. :(
passionsfan79 05-19-2004, 10:38 PM terry melcher helped proudced the beach boys last cd called summer in paradise along with john stamos as well back in 92
