Kazza 05-14-2004, 09:16 PM Originally posted by Rurry007 What is an LP? Lp stands for 'long play'; it's a very primitive version of what CD's are today. They came in 2 kinds 33 or 78rpm. You needed a turntable to play them and they had two sides. Jrnygrl 05-15-2004, 12:18 AM Originally posted by vashti1999 I never quite felt as old as I do after reading this. oh that's funny! I miss the things that used to come with albums, like you could get a poster, or the album would fold open and there would be a picture of the band, that really made it special, now all you get is a CD with lettering so small you go blind trying to read it. But I'm a modern girl so I would have to say CD's. AKA 05-15-2004, 12:55 AM Yeah, I agree, Jrnygrl. The 12x12 packaging is definitely missed! As recently as the late 80's I still bought vinyl on a somewhat regular basis, and "LP" was still a well known term back then. Steve M. 06-02-2004, 09:19 PM I'm going with CD's primarily becasue of the sound quality, although vinyl records have better packaging because of their size. :) A CD is the same as an LP or an album. CD's are LP's by nature because (except for CD3 singles) they are long play recordings like 33 1/3 rpm vinyl records. That's what LP stands for - long play! A long player is anything that plays for a long tim -say, forty minutes - hence, the term! :p |
