Yes, it is real. Eastland and Langley are fictional.

**In the year 2005, Lauren and I are driving to California to beg and pleed Lisa Whelchel and Nancy McKeon to become our mothers. She will become "Lauren McKeon" and I will become "Karli-wait a minute. I can't become 'Karli Cauble' AGAIN, can I???" Oh well, Just remember us as the "Cauble/McKeon kids!!"**

This song shows an important message

*Look at me, You may think you see who I really am, but you'll never know me. Every day it's as if I play a part. Now I see if I wear a mask, I can fool the world, but I cannot fool my heart. Who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me? When will my reflection show who I am inside? I am now in a world where I have to hide my heart, and what I believe in. But somehow, I will show the world what's inside my heart, and be loved for who I am. Who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me? Why is my reflection someone I don't know? Must I pretend that I'm someone else, for all time? When will my reflection show who I am inside? There's a heart that must be free to fly. That burns with a need to know the reason why. Why must we all conceal,
what we think, how we feel? Must there be a secret me, I'm forced to hide? I won't pretend that I'm someone else, for all time. When will my reflection show who I am inside, when will my reflection show who I am inside?*

Has anyone here ever been to Peekskill? If so, what did you do there? Visit a swanky girls' school, seek out a local quiche shop, or look for the Spencer's knock-off shop?

I know next time I'm in the LA area, I'm going to try to visit Pomona College to see the exterior.

OH Nuts!

I was there about 8 years ago for a Nelson concert.

I've been there. When I was growing up we had family friends who lived there. Last year we went to see a show at the Paramount Theater. It's not as nice as it used to be.

The theater? Or Peekskill?

Any observations about the area?

I don't think I'd wanna visit it. I want it to remain the largely just-out-of-reach community it is to me on the show. Ya know, kinda how like certain characters on sitcoms are mentioned, but never seen; it keeps the magic about them. Sometimes when they do show those characters, many agree it's a let-down (see "Pickles" from "The Dick Van Dyke Show").

Pickles?

I see what you mean, but for me, there's a need to see these places in person, to see around the "edges" of the TV screen.

Pickles? An example I’m familiar with would be Buddy Goodrich on Family Matters. America’s favorite dad on tv was an egotistical jerk in real life (on the show real life I mean)

Pickles?

Pickles?

Yes, Pickles! She was Buddy's wife (Rob Petrie's writing staff partners were Buddy and Sally), and Pickles eventually appeared on screen, played by 2 different actresses. But most fans were sorry to have seen her "materialize", as the character in person didn't live up to the stories/imaginings of her.

And I see what you mean, but I like to stay in my TV world, lol.

Do any current day pictures exist of the Eastland exterior? Was Pomoma College in LA, the Eastland exterior? I've never been there but would love to see it in person when I go there next time.

Yes, Pomona College was used as the exterior, and there are photos. Also, there are even videos of people walking around "Eastland's" dorm while wearing Molly Ringwald's Eastland tracksuit! What??

:rotfl:

OMG how awesome!! I too would have been amazed at being in personal contact with an item from the show!

I inquired if she was aware that her dorm was, in fact, The Facts of Life school. Shockingly, she had not actually been aware, and, even more shockingly, she did not seem to be too impressed by the news.

 Yup...can you believe some people?? ;)

Crazy.

You know if we had a dorm room there, we'd be in awe.

...Though I do miss the ivy. They need to grow that back.

Yeah, that's part of why I don't wanna see hallowed places in actual life.

Wow, I would have never known that was “Eastland” had no one showed me. They need to bring back the vines! It’s totally unrecognizable. Those vines gave it an old world, New England charm! I watched the video of those people stanning the location and loved it. Can’t remember it looked in the reunion movie. Did they put the vines back up just for the movie?

I totally agree. It mede it feel like it was a respectable "ivy league" school. Without the vines, it just looks like a building.

It's such a great, geeky moment! I love those people, even though I don't know them.

They didn't show the exterior of that building. Instead, they showed other buildings that didn't match, and then they went around a corner and then cut to the scene of them walking up a staircase(!) to get to the "east" door of the lounge, entering the cafeteria that way, which is definitely NOT how I would have imagined it, with the cafeteria apparently being on the second floor. Which... no.

But the cafeteria interior itself looked pretty authentic, and it was cool to see the fourth wall that we never got to see on the show. So I did like that part.

Haha!

The nearest Chug-a-Lug Bar I can find in New York state is in Redwood, NY, which is waaaayyyyy upstate. But if a similar place could be found in Peekskill, I wouldn't turn down a beer.

(I still remember, from when '80s pointed it out, how odd the decorations in the Chug-a-Lug were. Almost as if they were decorating the bar with random items from a school! )

Apparently, though, there IS a FOL-inspired bakery in Sayville, NY (https://www.facebook.com/pg/ednas.edibles.9/about/?ref=page_internal)!
